where did you get your ticket? how much was it? how many miles was it? could you choose your coutries yourself or did you have to take a template someone had sorted for you? should i go to south america? I dont know if i can be arsed. Title: Round teh world Post by: Onion_Jimbo on Sunday, October 16, 2005, 18:04:51 www.statravel.co.uk

how long for and when are you going? you can choose your own destinations but i imagine they will suggest some places to go so that it's easier for travelling between different countries where are you planning on going anyway? i'm going next july for a year but don't yet know where i wanna go Title: Round teh world Post by: Onion_Jimbo on Sunday, October 16, 2005, 19:06:26 Im going with a mate. Planning to leave next August but I dont know how long i want to go for. thats why i want to know if there is a time limit you can use your tickets in.
I want to do... Thailan, Japan, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, Figi, Brazil, USA, Iceland. but i am open to suggestions. All I know is that I want to be in Australia for Christmas so I can have a turkey on the beach. Title: Round teh world Post by: Onion_Jimbo on Sunday, October 16, 2005, 19:08:26 and we might get a train round europe before we start doing the flying. That way we can work in bars and stuff to earn a bit more dosh without being in swindon.
Title: Round teh world Post by: Onion_Jimbo on Sunday, October 16, 2005, 19:35:10 has anyone travelled Australia?
Is it worth flying from the west to the East or is it better to drive, walk, swim, kangaroo it? Title: Round teh world Post by: DMR on Sunday, October 16, 2005, 19:36:23 i thought this thread was going to be about an audacious yo-yo trick.
imagine my disappointment Title: Round teh world Post by: mrs_spacey on Sunday, October 16, 2005, 19:38:59 I booked mine with trailfinders
http://www.trailfinders.com/bestbuys.nsf/rtw?openform&referer=uk®ion=rtw It cost £1050 including all airport taxes etc and I got free UK flights to and from Heathrow and 4 free internal flights in Australia 8) You can change your travel dates at any time but you can't change your destinations. Title: Round teh world Post by: Onion_Jimbo on Sunday, October 16, 2005, 19:43:18 good news spacy. how many miles did you get and how long ago was this? (im guessing your pretty old)
Title: Round teh world Post by: Onion_Jimbo on Sunday, October 16, 2005, 19:43:51 ooooooooooooh thats mrs spacey. Eeeeek sorry. Your not old
Title: Round teh world Post by: mrs_spacey on Sunday, October 16, 2005, 19:54:35 Cheeky
I went 3 years ago and I dunno how many miles it was I didn't count but it was round the world Southeast Asia Australia NZ and USA so lots of miles. Fly around Australia except for the East Coast as there's lots more to see and do there. Title: Round teh world Post by: Onion_Jimbo on Sunday, October 16, 2005, 19:59:35 how do my countries sound to you? This is the rough time line
August: drive to france, germany, czech republich, some other gay eastern europe place. Sept: work in these places Oct: fly to Japan - Thailand - Vietnam Decemeber: fly to OZ Dec - Feb work in OZ Feb - fly to newzealand and figi april: fly to brazil May: fly to Mexico, California, texas, new york, canada... August: back to Swindon Is that too long in each coutry? Title: Round teh world Post by: Dazzza on Sunday, October 16, 2005, 20:05:36 You can always cross borders overland while in countries.
I'd suggest adding Cambodia and you'll be able to do a whole host of different Saarf American countries. Title: Round teh world Post by: blinkpip on Sunday, October 16, 2005, 20:11:08 I suggest you watch Australia V England, while your in Aussie land. Xmas day test is exellent.
What about Finland. Title: Round teh world Post by: Onion_Jimbo on Sunday, October 16, 2005, 20:16:05 people at work have suggested cambodia. Whats there apart from poor people?

Title: Round teh world Post by: Amir on Sunday, October 16, 2005, 23:39:06 Most(all?) around the world tickets you can only go in one direction, and most appear to be a bit over a grand.
Japan and Iceland are both ridiculously expensive. Cambodia has Angkor Wat and The Killing Fields(not so sure about the second myself). You can also shoot M-16s or AK47s while lobbing hand grenades around. You can probably do this in Vietnam as well, but Cambodia is on the way from Thailand anyway(no point flying), so you may as well have a look. You'd may as well fly from Melbourne to the west coast, Adelaide is supposed to be a hole(most Austrailian cities are pretty dull tbh). If you are looking at working while you move around, have a look at a WOOLFF(sp?) guide book. Oh, and if you are training it around Europe, you can buy a ticket if you are under 27 that gives you unlimited train journeys for a certain period. Hope this helps. You'll have a wicked time :D Title: Round teh world Post by: Onion_Jimbo on Monday, October 17, 2005, 07:05:07 oh yeah, forgot to add iceland on the list. Its somewhere that Ive always thought looked cool. I want to go when there is a lot of light though.

Its called Interrail. http://www.interrail.net/web/index2.php4?language=en It's very handy if you book overnight trains as well because you get a bed for near nothing. I've just sold my house and am waiting for completion... My and the missus are leaving in mid-January and coming back in about July Provisional itinery: India - fl - Thailand - ov - Malaysia/Singapore - fl - Indo - fl- Australia - fl - NZ - fl - LA (USA) overland to NY - Home. Not booked tickets yet, but considering the OneWorld Explorer to get some extra intra-continental flights enabling us to fly off the route to other places such as China/Japan in Asia, Fiji as part of Australasia and several bits of Canada Total budget for two people for 6 months about £8000  Title: Round teh world Post by: STFC Village on Monday, October 17, 2005, 11:21:36 Quote from: "Northern Red" Total budget for two people for 6 months about £8000   Christ on a bike! Where you staying? The bloody Hilton? Dining on caviar and veal? Gotta be cheaper than that surely??????Title: Round teh world Post by: Northern Red on Monday, October 17, 2005, 12:12:40 Not trying to do it on a completely limited budget - allowing for a tiny of luxury on the way.
Bear in mind that £5 of food per person per day comes to £1800 for 6 months and air tickets are £2400 for 2 people. Thats £4400 to start you before we even look at accomodation and other expenses. It'll cost you more than you imagine and I'm being very realistic. Title: Round teh world Post by: DV on Monday, October 17, 2005, 12:15:52 This thread made me think of is
It's a bit early in the midnight hour for me To go through all the things that I want to be I don't believe in everything I see Y'know I'm blind so why d'you disagree So take me away cos I just dont want to stay Cos all the lies you make me say Are getting deeper every day These are crazy days but they make me shine Time keeps rolling by All Around The World, you've gotta spread the word Tell 'em what you heard You're gonna make a better day All Around The World, you've gotta spread the word Tell 'em what you heard You know it's gonna be okay So what you gonna do when the walls come falling down? You never move you never make a sound So where you gonna swim with the ridges that you found? If you're lost at sea then I hope that you've drowned Title: Round teh world Post by: STFC Village on Monday, October 17, 2005, 12:23:26 Quote from: "Northern Red" Not trying to do it on a completely limited budget - allowing for a tiny of luxury on the way. Title: Round teh world Post by: mattboyslim on Monday, October 17, 2005, 12:25:52 From those I know that have done it and are advising me on the trip I'm planning about £1000 per person per month is about right depending on where you're headed.
Title: Round teh world Post by: Northern Red on Monday, October 17, 2005, 12:36:51 Quote from: "mattboyslim" From those I know that have done it and are advising me on the trip I'm planning about £1000 per person per month is about right depending on where you're headed. That's about right for a single person - but group or couple travel reduces this a lot. This is because of accomodation and food. Often it is as cheap to stay or eat as a couple as it would be for a single person. I'd say you could do it on £750 per month as a singleton, but you'd be cutting corners. About £1250 per couple per month is about right. I think this is one of those things that everyone under-estimates - thinking "I can get by on £400 per month when travelling" which is fine in someplaces like India/Thailand where cheap food and Accom. is possible, but if you factor in USA, then your budget is blown. USA I'm thinking will be about 3 times the price of Asia for food and accom...if not more... Title: Round teh world Post by: Northern Red on Monday, October 17, 2005, 12:39:05 For those really interested I'll be posting my itinery and approx budgeting information as I think it'd be helpful to others planning the same thing.
As said I'm leaving in January, so it should all be booked before Christmas, so I'll post it around then. I'm also having a website to keep in touch with people in England while travelling, so information will be on there when it's up and running. Title: Round teh world Post by: Dazzza on Monday, October 17, 2005, 15:26:41 I'm budgeting for about 1k a month on my travels hopefully including a rental income after Mortgage of about £100 a week.
12 months is my target as well Planning to do the old TEFL course to bring home the bacon on the way, few people I have met have been bumming around on the back of it for 2years+ You can easily do it on a hell of a lot less mind without resorting to being a travelling bum. Thailand for example, you’ll find the premium bungalows cost ridiculous amounts while just up the road on the slightly quieter beach you can get a slightly more basic version for pennies. I wasted my Australian WHM visa mind. Kicked off in Sydney and spent the first part going on the lash and spending far to much then further up the East coast the less jobs there are available. What ever you do though don’t pick Strawberries or any other kind of fruit or work in any sort of job that involves telephones. Both will ensure you feel more abused after a days work than a Barrymore/Kelly sandwitch. Title: Round teh world Post by: Northern Red on Monday, October 17, 2005, 15:57:00 See we've been advised not to use the cheaper bungalows on the beach as they are beach-bum cottages
Used in the same way as some commons and toilet cubicles - were there any holes in the wall in yours? I woiuld definitely include cambodia - you can go to angkor wat, phnom penh and siem riep - all amazing and I would also say to peru/chile as you have the inca trail. I am going to reykjavik in march, its not cheap but well worth a visit. jimbo if you are going down under make sure you go to new zealand, its a fuckin amazing place and well worth spending a fair while there. south america is also a must however watch your back if you go to any major cities in brazil, for hot women who put out you cant beat chile, colmbia, and the central american belt taking in costa rica and mexico. fuck im jealous, if i werent ill i would be travelling now. :( Title: Round teh world Post by: Onion_Jimbo on Tuesday, October 18, 2005, 10:13:26 thomas cook hey? did you go in the shop or do it online? Title: Round teh world Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Tuesday, October 18, 2005, 13:29:13 went into the shop, and it was a round the world, they have the same system as any other travel agency including sta, personally i would try sta first and then go to thomas cook before buying your ticket to get a quote from them.
other info: there are two types of round the world ticket with different airlines taking part the one i went on was ace i flew, virgin atlantic, singapore airlines, and air new zealand. air new zealand was a bit gay but singapore airlines are total skill. the other tickets use ba and quantas. ba make me punch people. Title: Round teh world Post by: fatbury on Tuesday, October 18, 2005, 13:30:19 I used BA and Quantas ...
