Title: Theme Days Idea
Post by: fatbury on Tuesday, October 11, 2005, 18:43:44
I was thinking of ways to get people back to the County Ground

How about revisiting the good old days and inviting back some ex players each weekend

for example a 60s week - with all the old 69 team reunited and introduced before hand on the pitch - maybe have an evening do as well

a 80s week - all the old promotion players who were denied and maybe even Lou and Ossie too

a 90s week - all the premiership heros like Jan aage - Killer - Keith Scott etc

It might encourage some old supporters back to see their old heros .. maybe we could do a penalty shoot out thing even involving the more recent ones??

What do u all think?? Good idea or bad?

good idea but probably a bit costly I expect.

well we could sell it to the ex players as helping out the club at a tough time??

and perhaps sell tickets in the winners for special after match events involving these players? this would cover costs?

a half time show of elvis doing dressage on shergar would probably put a few extra on the gate

I love this.  Instead of Swindon fans being down about being bottom of the table by 6 points in the worst run of defeats ever faced by a club thats over 125 years old, we are looking for ways to help.  The Trust talking about getting extra fans in - the fans talking about raising the atmosphere.  Makes you proud. 8)

good idea, but unfortunatly would probably cost too much like DV85 said. and it would be hard trying to get them all together on the same weekend.

i had a kinda similar idea before about getting a friendly match going...

Not that costly actually, at least for the older generation.  I've been told they love to come back to the CG as "guests" for the day, obviously any arranged function might require a little appearance fee, but for just turning up and being paraded they generally just like a free ticket!

I love the "Legends" game concept, it's short notice, but I'll see if someone could get anything sorted for the City game pre-match or something?

I'm not sure how keen to help some of the older players would be to help.  Some haven't been treated that well by the club in the past.

How about doing the half time cross bar challenge, for supporters though?  The winner gets four free tickets or something.  That'd be more interesting than watching six years failing to stick to the agreed formation.

I'm not sure many of our team could do that, let alone our supporters!

I'd have a go though, quite fanncy my chances.  Slight twist though, if you MISS you get 4 tickets... that'll improve the accuracy of many.

i like the crossbar challenge idea, i'd be well up for that!

tamworth do a similar thing at half time where you have to run from the halfway line & score a goal within 5 seconds. harder than it sounds. i think only 1 bloke scored. not sure what he won though.

at Franchise last season they did some kind of shooting thing aswell. 3 shots from 3 cones placed at different distances from goal.

stuff like this is all good for half-time entertainment. it was good when iffy & woany were taking pens against digby last season.

Exactly half time entertainment should be massively promoted.

I guess the club will use the pitch is private and supporters aren't allowed on it.

Why not have a supporters penalty shoot out against the reserve or third choice keeper?  Something to get your interest.

The penalty shoot-out at Col U last season was pretty good.  Some home fans and some away fans (all kids) against each other.  The Swindon kids were class - really giving it to the Col U fans!

Free kick challenge, cross bar challenge, 100m sprint, penalty shoot out.

Not for kids get some adults involved, more entertaining, especially if they've had a couple.

Hmm....

Yeovil Red vs Sonic in a half time football pentathlon.....

Sounds wicked!

We could have TEF v This is.

It'd be like men against boys!!

Then the grandad's of the Truststfc could take on the winners, i.e. TEF.

Hearts do this at half time, they get a Hearts legend to come and do the half time draw and talk about how much they love the club etc, then they have a crossbar challenge which is great to watch!

Even that thing they do up at Hillsborough.  Supporter tries to score from a number of different distances, up to the halfway line, then takes a pen.

I think they'd be fine with a game against you guys, but I think I'm safe in saying they don't look like a bunch that would race around a 5 a side pitch these days!

Hi Whits, nice to meet you, Spacey and Mrs Spacey the other night.  I'm gradually beginning to put some faces to names.

We had a spate of old players being brought out a couple of seasons ago, for a bit of chat and do the draw....unfortunately being STFC the fucking Tannoy doesn't work properly, so the majority of the crowd don't quite know who is out there....having said that when I was down at Soton last season they wheeled out our arch nemesis Chicken George Lawrence, and you could almost hear the audible gasp from the Prem arrivistes...who the fuck is he.

Back to STFC that seson Ernie Hunt got wheeled out , and he is at least in the top ten greatest STFC players....but it somehow doesn't do justice to the man.

I do this every week at Tynecastle! Someone called Willy Bauld got a great reception at half time against Rangers, seemingly he is a legend and has a song about him.

Been thinking about how to continue the Red Army Loud and Proud idea and I think I've found something that looks good, but is very cheap to arrange:

Red Crepe Streamers (81ft long!), cost 85 pence
Ticker Tape - One paper each (the Adver!), ripped to shreds

If we could get even several hundred people joining in, it would look fantastic.

Planning on a trial run at Scunny with a big push for the City game on Sky.  Need to get it timed for the players entrance, just imagine the scenes on Sky TV.

For the simple cost of £1 each (or less if we assume 1 between 2) we could produce a great atmosphere.

If the ticker tape is Red, all the better.

Remember to keep the Red theme going gang, and Stay Loud!

I remember one of my mates spending a couple of days ripping up his mum's littlewoods and argos catalogues before the wembley 93 match, only for the steward on the turnstile confiscate his bags on entry, he was gutted.

Still prefer the half time entertainment, although with a decent crowd at the city match it shoul dlooking pretty tasty.

wouldnt stewards stop anyone bringing ticker tape into the ground?
they wil say you could conseal weapons, alcohol, etc

Gay Day.

We all dip into Sonic's leather wardrobe and don Yeovil Red style bender Moustaches for the day with a special guest appearance from everyone's favourite family entertainer Michael Barrymore, fresh from working at Mex's 'club', who will do a sponsored fisting of Dave Russell in aid of the Red Army fund.
