Title: Ray Wilkins
Post by: Tails on Saturday, September 24, 2005, 16:50:07
Next manager of STFC?

He was at the County Ground today, donated £10 (out of a HUGE wad of cash) to the Trust's Red Army Fund, followed by Bob Holt (director who is never at the CG). Draw your own conclusions.

Liked him as a player, no thanks as a manager.

If he came in as a coach fine, but not as a manager....especially at our level.

Wilkins and Wise will do.  They'd instill some passion and belief in the team. It ain't gunna happen though.

I applied when Macari got the job....never bother applying for the same job twice.

Dennis Wise - Player Manager with Wilkins as number 2 sounds very good, but also too expensive, why even bother with a new wage, lets just promoted sandy gray to manager

Wise??

Dennis Wise???

More likely Morecambe & Wise, but stranger things have happened.

Who would have thought ten years ago we’d have Bernard Manning managing the team.

Wise would be tasty in that midfield even if he is knocking on he’d be ideal not sure about the temperament though and long term prospects with him as manager.

At the moment Jimmy Krankey would be preferable to the halfwit we have in charge

dennis wise plays regularly for southampton, so i think we can put that one to rest!

Why?

I bet he has something written into his contract to say if he gets offered a management job he can go....

Only made 4 appearences this season although I think he arrived part way through the season.

But i'm sure he's on a fair wedge at Saints? Fair enough, he may take a pay-cut, but even if he did, we still couldn't afford him. Also, he's not desperate enough to come and manage us....

perhaps, but i would imagine he's on something like £5k a week at southampton - his last playing contract. can you really see him giving that up so that he can start managing us?!

he may well give up his contract. After all it will put his managerial ambitions back on track......he cant play forever!

Very true. However, he could play for another year or two on £5k p/w, then take up a cushty little coaching job, i'm sure a lot of clubs in the top 2 tiers would be willing to take him onboard. He could then try and pull some strings, work his way up into an assistant managers position....while doing all of this, he would be earning several times more than we could pay him.

Anyone who takes this whole rumour mounger bullshit as gospel needs to take a reality check. Whoever we get in to replace King, they will be inexperienced and very unlikely to be someone we have heard of (unless its Reeves, Woan or Iffy). We're not going to get a proven manager in, FACT!

Rumour bullshit....Well, to be fair we did see Sir Seton, Holt and then Wilkins all walk in to the Arkells Stand within a minute of each other.... Doesn't that seem suspicious to anyone else?? This isn't like the Macari 'rumour' yesterday!

i would have to agree with that actually. we will not be able to afford somebody who is at a club already e.g colin calderwood. so we may be left with Reeves or Iffy. Somebody like Shaun Taylor could be in the frame though

I don't see why SSW would be lining up a replacement for King right under his nose. Whats the point? Either back him or sack him!

Rich, agreed Ooh Shaun Taylor could be in the frame, i believe he is currently out of work. I think he might be a good short term solution, a character to galvanize the fans and lift the spirit of the club. At first. But i don't think he'd be good long term, and i'd hate to see the legecy of the great man destroyed.

Thanks for the info Tails, wasn't sure. Tbh though, i don't think any compensation would be needed in his case, he would jump at the chance of coming back to us, so would probably resign from FGR. Not sure if he would be on anymore £ though :( Tbf, he'd probably do it for nowt!

Isn't is possible that Wilkins was just at Swindon doing some scouting work for someone?

Wise.....interesting. Deemed quite a good signing pre-season for the saints but not being in southampton, i don't know what the mood about him as a player is like now. Could do a lot worse but it's all speculative aint it

Dennis Wise punched someone who was asleep in a row over money.

A cunt of the highest order.

Like Wilkins, but he gets by on the TV punditry. Got his own style.

I'd welcome a new management team of Wise and Wilkins, i think that would offer better experience and know-how then any of us would expected from our retard board.

Wise got Millwall to the cup final (although fair enough he got sacked after that) and wilkins has experience of coahing premiership and championship clubs.

I cant see it happening though.

To be fair on Wise, he walked away from Millwall, because of the new chairman and him didn't see eye-to-eye (probably because he's so short  )

I saw wilkins outside in his car,i smiled at him in an  inane way and he looked like he was going to punch me :) .I can't see him coming to us although i think he's a class bloke and a good coach, but we can't afford him.I think he was scouting for the england under 21's.
Does anyone know the name of his brother? We couldn't remember on saturday.
