Title: 5 current England internationals...
Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, September 20, 2005, 22:59:19
.....in the Spurs side, beaten by the Mariners containing Mildy and Michael Reddy.....should we regard this as good, they wont have so many games, or bad in they're not very good?

Not bad meaning bad, but bad meaning good.

In all seriousnous though wtf happened? Shocking from Spurs, I'm sure Mr. King will refer to better sides losing to lesser teams (particularly this case and also Everton) when we lose on saturday.

Tbh Reg, its got me worried. This result tonight, coupled with the fact that none of the other players are showing much (if any) form for club or country, is not good news. Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney and others have looked worryingly out of touch last few weeks for their clubs.......

I love it.....Spurs must have a squad of about 40 and spent about 80 mill recently..and we know they were trying....and they can't beat Grimsby of L2. :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:

As long as they are earning enough to keep the mrs happy they couldn't care. Rooney; Gerrard; Lampard; et al, all know that they will automatically be selected despite their form. Therefore there is little incentive to perform. Success alone should be enough incentive (like the England cricket team's fantastic ashes victory) but footballers want to be paid as they will be worshipped by some crazy fools no matter - even if it's in Japan or somewhere daft.

At the moment you'd have to say qualifying is looking a bit dodgy.

He have had a habit of scraping through by the skin of our teeth in the past (well, since '94 anyway), but i'm feeling less confident with every passing day....

we'll qualify no problems.

I seem to remember a certain Alan Shearer who would always do shit in the qualifying stages but play ace in the competitions. Kind of takes the piss if players can't get motivated in qualifying, especially against the other home countries. Qualifying is never a formality and neither is progression to further rounds in a cup, as Spurs and Inglund have demonstrated.

I'd like you to talk me through this Shearer ace in tournaments but crap in qualifying conjecture.

Towards the latter stages of his international career, Shearer seemed to be more lethargic (sp?) than in tournaments where he seemed to have more energy. It was around the time the fans were getting on the teams back and probably one of the factors which made him retire.

p.s. My memory is spazzed from drinking excessive amounts of alcohol in the past so I could be wrong  :soapy tit wank:

JOL OUT!  :x

Lampard hasn't been playing too bad at all for Chelsea he's already got two goals and loads of assists, he's the 4th highest scoring player on the fantasy football thing we're running and the highest scoring midfielder.

Rooney has been playing alright as well to be honest, only his temper that's the problem.

I recall Shearer turning out in the failed 94 qualifying campaign....playing decent in Euro 96, but not having a qualifying campaign.......scoring v Tunisia in 98 and a pen when we went out to the Argies.....and the winner v Huns in Euro 2000 as we crashed out.....why did Moyes give Phil Neville a 5 year contract?

I think after Euro 2000, he made the right decision to retire.

Ok so Spurs had a good side out but its only The Mickey Mouse cup, Spurs have lost one game to Chelsea and to me thats not a bad start.

I might aswell have a chuckle about Spurs losing  :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:

Shearer never really did anything at tournaments, Lineker was England's last great tournament player, in a Toto Schillaci kinda way.

As I have a major dislike for spurs and their wanky "we're a big club, seriously" fans I'm finding last nights result very amusing.

Can you see us ever pulling off a result like that?In fact when was the last time we beat a side from a higher division?I reckon it was Oldham FA Cup replay-Ling the scorer.

We got an away draw against Leeds though.

Went 2-0 up against Blackburn when they were premiership champions.

I don't really want Jol out. Some Spurs fans are going mad though, they want him out now apparently he doesn't have a clue tactically.

Didn't we lose 3-2 though?,and zippy missed a pen right at the end :( .Apart from the result that was a class night,we were in the stratton bank and the atmosphere was amazing.

We must have beaten someone on our League Cup run to the Semis?  Actually can't think of any.

Shearer wasn't that impressive in euro 96 no PM, I felt Sheringham and the midfield were better.

That's what I thought, out of all those I only made the two Bolton games (three if you count nearly getting to Bolton to hear it's been postponed).

Yeah we had a right easy ride on the way to the semi's that year.  How about when we got to the semi's in the early 80's Reg??  beat anyone of note back then?

We could have got to the final without playing another side from a higher division.

Probably the last side we beat from a higher league was Wolves in the 01 LC.......Roy Evans was the manager then.

King's record is abject in cups.....of course its not been helped when decent results like Leeds was denied a replay as always used to happen.

Yeah we famously beat The Arse 4-3 at the CG.We also beat Stoke, who were then in the top flight.
