Title: Same old from King Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, September 19, 2005, 09:49:16 From Thisis:
Quote ANDY KING says only the loss of his dressing room would force him to consider his position at the County Ground and he sees no sign that his players have lost all faith in him. Chief executive Sandy Gray confirmed yesterday that the present position at boardroom level was unchanged regarding the manager. As for King, he insists it is for Gray and company to decide his future. He isn’t about to call it a day. The Town boss, who saw his side crash to a 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth on Saturday, the fourth reverse in a row, said: “I know you have to win football matches. It’s based on results. “I’ve said before that I’m nobody’s fool, I know what I’m doing. I’ve been here before. I know I’m a good manager. “I believe in me and I believe in my players. “If my time is up at Swindon then it’s not my decision. “I have a job, a contract, if Swindon choose to terminate it, that’s their decision. “All I know is that if I do leave this football club, it’s in a lot better state than when I found it, that’s financially and player-wise. “There’s better players here now than there’s ever been.” It’s those same players that King takes both heart and hope from. He said: “If I’d got to the situation whereby they’d given up on me (the players) then I might give up on the job. “But I don’t think we can say that looks like 11 players that have just said we don’t give a whatever about him. “If it continues and we find ourselves bottom then there’s a decision to be made by people above. “But if we can get the win, that I think’s around the corner, then we might go on that run. “Where the cut off point comes, I don’t know. As I said, it’s not my decision. “I’m no coward that’s for sure. “I’ll start again on Monday with a smile on my face.” Experienced defender Steve Jenkins certainly doesn’t believe his manager has lost the dressing room. He said: “You ask all the lads here, they love the gaffer. He’s great to have around. “The lads are right behind him and we’ve just got to keep plugging away.” So Tony Thorpe is better than Jan Agge, Rory is better than Sam, Whalley is better than Hoddle, Pook is better than Horlock, Shakes is better than the Don.... Title: Same old from King Post by: adje on Monday, September 19, 2005, 09:52:09 Yep-more incoherent gobbledegook from our erudite manager!
Title: Same old from King Post by: Reg Smeeton on Monday, September 19, 2005, 09:54:19 KT, you can't criticise the man for bigging up his players.....personally I think we've got the biggest sack of shit on the park since the time of T*dd's team....King may well do too, which is why he keeps changing formations and personnel, in the hope of finding something that works....but he can't say so.
Title: Same old from King Post by: fatbury on Monday, September 19, 2005, 09:55:05 He meant during his time at the club .. but Id dispute that .. the best side we had under King was the one during the spell we got to the play offs .. bit desperate that interview :-))(

OK he's within his rights to defend and big up his team, but to say that is just daft - he's almost saying he's the best manager we've ever had - which he certainly is not! Title: Same old from King Post by: Reg Smeeton on Monday, September 19, 2005, 10:08:16 I think the stuff in that piece is eminently sensible....when you get a Tinnion situation where the players just give up concede 6 in a half and by all acounts it could have be ten, then the boss dits i the dug out for half an hour with his head in his hands...then you know its definitely time to go.......don't think King has reached that,so he's entitled to say so.....and make it his line in the sand.

But in a way Reg by saying they "are the best players there's ever been"-he's further endorsing the view that as a manager he's not up to it,dont you think? That's what makes the speech incoherent for me. Title: Same old from King Post by: normy on Monday, September 19, 2005, 11:38:05 As a dogmatic expert interviewee, Mr King negates any good he does otherwise in my view, and the old definition of an "expert" came to mind.
A has-been drip under pressure. :) Title: Same old from King Post by: DV on Monday, September 19, 2005, 11:42:10 If he now has the best player since we has been at the club, why are we sitting in the relegation zone
King is effectivly saying, that this side is better than the one he had two years ago, two years ago we finished 5th. This team is better so should finish higher Title: Same old from King Post by: Piemonte on Monday, September 19, 2005, 11:43:58 Quote from: "adje" Quote from: "Reg Smeeton" I think the stuff in that piece is eminently sensible....when you get a Tinnion situation where the players just give up concede 6 in a half and by all acounts it could have be ten, then the boss dits i the dug out for half an hour with his head in his hands...then you know its definitely time to go.......don't think King has reached that,so he's entitled to say so.....and make it his line in the sand. Agree. If he can say that this is the best bunch of players we've had in his time here, then why the fuck are we 3rd bottom with 4 defeats on the bounce? That implies hes a shit manager. Title: Same old from King Post by: Spud on Monday, September 19, 2005, 13:09:16 King has said that they're the best bunch of players ever so their confidence in him keeps him in a job!. If he come out saying they're awful then that confidence in him would be gone and he would be sacked. :-))(

Title: Same old from King Post by: Dazzza on Monday, September 19, 2005, 16:08:19 That quote my friends has been rolled out three times per season under King since he's been here.
He's like one of those toys with a cord at the back. Pull the cord and it churns out the same old gumpf over and over. Title: Same old from King Post by: Spencer_White on Monday, September 19, 2005, 16:32:55 I think weve got decent players. Just the squad is unbalanced. Too many strikers and attacking midfielders, not enough defenders and solid midfielders.
