Title: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Legends-Lounge on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, 11:57:42 Quote - Peter Venkman
Well our form this season in all games is now LWLWLWWW thats a pretty good start TBH and something we can build on. Winning breeds confidence even if it’s in a near meaningless cup game. Barrow on Saturday have LLLWLWL Barrow fans not overly confident about playing us https://www.barrowafc.net/viewtopic.php?t=33898&sid=60ce70f48cb1853566213c8993bb8a16[/quote] So a nailed on win then? Title: Re: Barrow in Furness v Swindon Town - EFL League 2 Post by: Pericardinho on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, 12:28:17 I can't see Holloway changing a winning side, especially given how well we played at Crewe.
Is Wilson-Brown a doubt? If so, Kirkman slots straight in at left centre back. Deserved too after his performance last night. So nice having this depth. I don't consider this a drop in quality at all if it happens. I think Kirkman is brilliant and unlucky not to be starting regularly. Title: Re: Barrow in Furness v Swindon Town - EFL League 2 Post by: horlock07 on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, 13:39:11 On the negative side it would be such a Swindon thing for so much positivity to be knocking about and be followed by a pitiful performance and a defeat!
On the positive side I'm not going so a win is hopefully guaranteed! Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Batch on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, 14:33:26 We are going to win.
That is an unusual statement from mr glass half full muggins here. Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Peter Venkman on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, 14:33:57 I can't see Holloway changing a winning side, especially given how well we played at Crewe. Holloway would be silly to change a winning team unless he has to, Wilson-Brown has some form of viral infection apparently so could well be doubtful for Saturday but as you say Kirkman is an ideal replacement. I guess we will also see if Clarke is available or not after his misdemeanor at Cardiff. Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Batch on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, 14:44:23 I guess we will also see if Clarke is available or not after his misdemeanor at Cardiff. He was yesterday so no club internal issues. No idea who is investigating or when its due to complete though, which I guess was your point.. Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Super Hans on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, 15:14:11 3 away wins in a row would be lovely.
I think we're due a draw as we haven't had one yet, but hopefully we can keep building momentum. Barrow 1-2 Swindon Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: DV on Thursday, September 4, 2025, 07:02:45 It can’t be any worse than Barrow away last season…

Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: reeves4england on Thursday, September 4, 2025, 09:48:02 3 away wins in a row would be lovely. I think we're due a draw as we haven't had one yet, but hopefully we can keep building momentum. Barrow 1-2 Swindon You got me wondering when was the last time we achieved that? I asked ChatGPT and it said it was 1986*. That didn't seem right so I did a bit of digging and we won 3 in a row in early 2019, culminating in the 2-1 win where Keshi Anderson smashed home the winner, a goal more infamous for the reaction of an Franchise fan who recorded and posted his own reaction on Twitter. "Oh no, 2-1 Swindon". I'd share the link if I could find it! In early 2021 we won at Crawley, Salford and Grimsby, scoring 10 goals and conceding 2 across the three games. Doyle got 6 in 3. And in October 2021 we won at Rovers, FGR and Sutton. That seems to be the last time it happened unless I've missed something. *The 1986 run seems to have been three consecutive games played away form home, i.e. with no home game in between. In fact, we had no home games at all over the period of 2 months from 12 Jan to 15 Mar, so we played six straight away games winning every single match. https://townenders.com/matches_club.php?season=1985-1986&structure_code=M&team_code=1st Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Tails on Thursday, September 4, 2025, 09:56:56 Gotta be due a draw at some point.

Last year was painful following in a local bar. Butterworth's late late equaliser meant the Efes tasted a bit sweeter but I didn't realise exactly how the game had turned out.
Have a feeling Butterworth will be on the scoresheet Saturday. Last year was painful following in a local bar. Butterworth's late late equaliser meant the Efes tasted a bit sweeter but I didn't realise exactly how the game had turned out. Have a feeling Butterworth will be on the scoresheet Saturday. Yep...it's the same weekend. Return visit 52 weeks/364 days after the last one. This fixture has been a firm fixture since we moved to Scotland 4½ years ago. Will be the 5th time in 5 seasons that my eldest & I have made it to Barrow (A). And a mere 3rd visit for Ardiles Jnr Mk II. The other 4 have ended P4 W2 D1 L1, and I'm very hopefully we'll add another 'W'. The pitch, even when it hasn't been hammering it down, is a heavy one from memory. So will be interesting to see whether 'lump it to Smith' is replaced with 'lump it to Palmer' at the first opportunity. I hope not. I'd love to see Kilkenny given the opportunity to develop in to a proper Midfield General type, if possible. First game of the season for me (to be followed swiftly by another next weekend.) Genuinely excited/up for this. Lovely. Second year in a row as well. Having said that, staying down south in Manchester for this one. Hopefully to minimise the madness of train travel on a Sunday. Still expecting at least one train cancellation & one cattle truck experience on the way back. Won’t be much fun with no points in the bag. The nature & timing of the equaliser was good fun last time. Maybe more appreciated by those that were there than those watching from afar. No escaping the abject sterility of the effort against 10 with an outfield player in goal. Had a look at the Barrow squad. Look to have a fair few older heads & I’m guessing supplemented by a complement of loanees. No idea if they have a youth setup. Did read that the senior squad is mainly Manchester based & that they train in that area. Fair play, an approach that makes sense & they are now established in L2 following their return & no doubt basking in being the premier club in Cumbria. We, on the other hand are basking in the glow of a tremendous performance last Saturday. That wasn’t dented by being confronted by a reminder of the 1980 LC semi final upon arrival. Yes, the statue of Emlyn Hughes outside the station. Captain of England & also on Question of Sport. “Ehh, Ah know it, ah know it, ah know it ....it’s gone..” Alongside the permanently concussed Bill Beaumont if I remember. But that’s all consigned to the history books now, both 1980 & last Saturday & everything in between. The prospect of following up on last Saturday with a similar outcome today is tantalising. Four points from 2 away games would be fine. Having a manager that really wants to win & has the tools available to make it happen is reassuring, plus the added bonus of very little chance of a bag of shite being dressed up as a coil of finest Cumberland Sausage. Shouldn’t need a healthy dose of Kendal Mint Cake for the team to be running around as if possessed today. Victories have to be earned in this league & consistent inconsistency is generally the norm. Still on the learning curve of getting to grips with this season for me. Do wonder if the “We’ve got Palmer, fuck Kier Starmer” chant heard at Crewe will reappear today. Sign of the times I guess. Maybe giving 16 year old’s the vote won’t pan out as planned. Anyway, the Promotion Party in May gets my vote. Safe travels to all & enjoy the game folks. Oldaker is making a lot more sense now.At the beginning of the season I couldn't see what he offered but he's now really making a case as to how important he is in the midfield Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Ƭ̵̬̊: The Artist Formerly Known as CWIG on Saturday, September 6, 2025, 15:07:33 He made the space well though. Give him credit. Oh yeah it was superb from him, but the reaction time was pathetic from Barrow. If that had been us I'd be raging. Not under much pressure by them and quite routine so far. Just keep up 2nd half with the same stuff. Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Suffolkexile on Saturday, September 6, 2025, 15:48:24 So important to get a second before half time. Oldaker can really pick a killer pass but Glatzel was given acres of room. Great calm finish though. Kicking towards our fans second half and a really strong bench to call on when legs get tired. A third would give us the game surely, we’re by far the better team and not playing our best either.

Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: horlock07 on Saturday, September 6, 2025, 15:49:32 Think I'd get Oldaker and Nicholls off as soon as possible as the ref idls strangely unpredictable.
Pretty routine but can't imagine Barrow being so poor in the second half. Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: FormerlyPlymRed on Saturday, September 6, 2025, 15:53:03 So easy so far but an early goal for them changes it all!
Ref is shit. Don't think anyone has had a poor game so far, everyone at least a 7/10, special mentions to Oldaker, Munroe and Glatz for me. Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: adje on Saturday, September 6, 2025, 15:55:26 Just imagine if Oldaker could shoot!
Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Ides of March on Saturday, September 6, 2025, 15:55:46 That was a really enjoyable half. Granted, they missed an absolute sitter, but apart from that they have rarely threatened. Their bus driver will certainly have to get his foot down to get to Bromley before 5.30.Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: swindonmaniac on Saturday, September 6, 2025, 17:08:03 Man of the match according to their match day sponsor :D Just shows how poor they are.Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Processed Beats on Saturday, September 6, 2025, 17:13:38 More nervy than the score line suggests. I do think a typical Swindon team would throw that 2-0 lead away so coming away with the win is a good sign.

Either way we will be off the top, but it was good while it lasted. Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Nomoreheroes on Saturday, September 6, 2025, 17:33:02 Glatzel:
- Came with a plan and executed well - Front foot attacking team, pressing high and putting them under pressure. We played good football when we had the ball - Losing Smith has fuelled the fire. Tough as a team to lose him, but it brought the team together - Off the ball work: Part of our game. To win ball back up high. We have worked hard on this. - Happy to be getting a run of games. Helps get a rhythm - Coming off the bench is different as you are often trying to close out the game - Forwards have different qualities. Bring something different to the game. Can only be a good thing - Want to score as many goasls as possible. Trying to get into top 3 in the league in scoring - Very encouraging. Only the start. But we are building. - Looking forward to the next few games and hopefully will be able to solidify the position we are in. Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: adje on Saturday, September 6, 2025, 17:34:35 Good performance. Easily the better of two decent sides for this level. Unstoppable first half, unflappable second. Despite their increased possession we were rarely troubled apart from a top class save by Ripper and one of the streakiest goals we've ever conceded. Three nil down at home you'd expect them to throw everything forward but we defended well I thought with Mabete again impressive for me. Oldaker was definitely player of the first half. Overall MOM probably Drinan for me
Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: UTR on Saturday, September 6, 2025, 17:42:30 I think Palmer is getting frustrated that no one will pass to him. He’s been in so much space 3 times in the last couple of mins Noticed he was getting frustrated against Reading as well. Going to be an obvious drop off in quality here from those he was used to playing with at Wrexham that will take some adjusting to (no disrespect to our squad intended) but hope he maintains that level, eventually the players around him will click into sync with it. - Only looking at we got wrong. There is enough to sink a battleship today - We started badly, then opened them up - Got a second goal slightly against the run of play - Knew they were going to make a substitution at half time and come at us - We needed everybody. - Noone did anything wrong to deserve substituion - We have a strong bench - Nobody is selfish and gets upset if not picked - Ollies Clarke and Palmer will be up to speed soon. We've also got the 2 Bristol City lats. Whoa! - Drinan, with his pace, power and drive. Do I want to take him off? No. Have spoken to him about it. But needed him to play in Snowden's place eventhough he doesnt favour it. We do practice it - We almost let them back in - Should have scored a fourth. Prince coudl and should have rolled X in. But he's still learning - A lot to learn and improve. Its good to be able to do that after wins - Oldaker playing further forward as we have a lot of people at the back who can bring the ball out - Ripley made a world class save - Takes everyone to get a result. Sometimes it will be ugly. - Midfield looked like we were strangling them. That's what their crowd didnt like - Trying to create a mentality that if we let 2 in then we might score 3 - We have a lot of young lads. Are our team fit enough? We have to look at it. - We have some fantastic players here. Holloway has to mould them into a team. Great finish from Glatzel. Lovely cross across from Drinan and finish from Princewill. More passing football. More pressing. Onwards. What’s the latest on the Ollie Clarke punch up? Any word of what happened (and if it’s James Ball….)?! Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, September 6, 2025, 19:00:23 Att: 3,077 (312 Swindon)

Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Ides of March on Saturday, September 6, 2025, 21:09:02 Echo the thoughts above re Oldaker. Certainly did not see him taking up the current role he has when the signing was announced but behind the two strikers, he is absolutely brilliant. Seen comparisons to Doughty and very much agree. Not the quickest but doesn’t have to be with his range of passing. Initially thought he would be occupying the role Nichols is in and vice versa but fair play to Holloway, he’s called it spot on with how he’s using both

Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Super Hans on Saturday, September 6, 2025, 21:25:36 We weren't great today but won fairly comfortably.
I thought Barrow were pretty stinking especially first half and we dropped to their level at times with passes going astray throughout. The ref was a dick too. Still, 3 league away wins in a row, 4 wins on the bounce in all comps scoring 11 goals in that time - it's been a very good start to the season. Add in the fact we have still have two loanees to add to the squad and it's looking promising. Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Boydy on Saturday, September 6, 2025, 21:28:36 Got to give Holloway hell of a lot of credit for seeing the player Oldaker could be by moving him up the pitch.
I don't think many of us were impressed by him over those first few games where he was sat deeper like he supposedly was everywhere else. Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Crozzer on Saturday, September 6, 2025, 21:38:15 The ref was a dick too. First half he's not giving Swindon anything except unreasonable yellow cards. Immediately after the H.T. restart, he gives Barrow nothing and brandishes a yellow card against the home side for something that was unnecessary. It was like the assessor said to him during half time to the effect of, you are being too much of a homer - you have to even things up. After about 10 - 15 minutes of pro-Swindon, he finished the game by being unpredictable. Overall, a very poor performance. Nice one town. Winning is becoming a habit. Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Wobbly Bob on Sunday, September 7, 2025, 08:18:00 A relatively routine win in the end, without hitting the heights of last Saturday.
Enough moments of quality to make the difference. Let's not forget that we were troubling the top 3 at this stage in the Flynn season. Feels a bit more of a sustainable effort this time, but let's see how it goes. Terrible viewing ground as has been said. Managed to find a seat with a clear viewing angle of both goals but not much else. Counted about 35-40 pillars around the 6 or 7 standlets. About 16,700 suited & booted, flat cap wearing souls squeezed into Holker Street in the 50's. All good fun. Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: TheSwindonianManSTFC on Sunday, September 7, 2025, 09:56:40 We have to keep this sustainable, but only Stockport has won this league in the past few season with 2 PPG, all the other winners have come in with less, so it seems there is a drop off from all teams at some point in the season and so when this drop off does come we have to make it as short as possible. At this current moment in time, it’s looking good,as we haven’t even seen Tafazolli, Murphy or Knight-Lebel all 3 I’m sure will display their qualities in this side.

Sounds like a good win. With Harrogate at home next, good chance to cement our automatic promotion credentials. Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Ticker45 on Sunday, September 7, 2025, 10:32:38 As mentioned in earlier posts our high press that Glatzel talked about definitely drops off when he is not there with Drinan who always works his socks off and that to my thinking partially accounts for the decline in the second half performance yesterday.
Having only seen Palmer last Tuesday and on the TV yesterday, he is not to my mind going to work as hard relying more on positional play and what I have seen of Princewill is much in the same vein and it is not a combination that gives the same input to the team. I always assume that IH can see when things require changing hence the mass substitutions but I do think that the balance is sometimes compromised with them. Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: Anonymous77 on Sunday, September 7, 2025, 13:44:55 Now have the same amount of away wins after 35 days of the season as we did after 200 days last season.
Title: Re: Barrow vs Swindon Town Pre Match & Matchday Post by: THE FLASH on Sunday, September 7, 2025, 17:48:28 Very good first half, then went to rat shit a bit on 60 minutes and were pressed into silly mistakes.
Ripley who had little to do, made a superb save. Should of had more but for poor finishing and not squaring the ball. Too early to call but very good. MOM for me was Drinan. |
