Title: Renting in Swindon
Post by: Nomoreheroes on Monday, April 1, 2024, 13:52:00
Where would you recommend for a post grad who has a job in Swindon? Where is nice and where should be avoided?

Old Town seems nice, avoid the P's, bits of other places are a bit crappy but that's the same everywhere. SN25 is a bit soulless but has been ok for us for years. Young and single/kidless, I'd look at Old Town kinda way.

What are you looking for nmh, somewhere lively or just somewhere to live?

As above old town is probably the best lively bit.. well as lively as Swindon gets.

we live in sn2 woodhall park way - normal residential area. A house. A local shop. Supermarkets down the road and not much else. It's good for us/family.

Depends on lifestyle and budget as to where you call best. Parts of SN25 within a mile radius of Orbital are fine with a few pubs nearby as well as various supermarkets and decent bus access into Town. SN5 beginning with P is really nice but maybe a little quiet if it’s vibrancy they are after.

As others have said Old Town would best for the nightlife but not all areas are what I would call nice so it comes down to individual preference.

Not a 100% sure what they are looking for. I would say ‘somewhere to live’ as I’m old! But they might want to be able to get to a train station and walk into night life.

Thanks for the recommendations though.

Depends if they have a car, town centre/old town might be a bit painful. Rodbourne Cheney was alright when I lived there, not miles from the town centre but with less of the centre negatives.

Going to be working near the M4 junction.

They have a car.

Badbury Park or Wichelstowe may be suitable as both are near the M4 and new estates.

Badbury Park or Liden then. Got Coate Water on the doorstep and the CG is only just over 2 miles away  :)
