Title: Accrington v Swindon MoM Thread
Post by: Nemo on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, 21:45:14
Plenty of options today for most of the world's least comprehensive 4-0... 4-1...4-2...4-3 win (yes, I wrote this at 4-0). What the everloving fuck was that?

Bizarre.

Yeah I get that... I think you have to vote on the first 90 minutes, or give it to one of the guys who got subbed! Definitely one to reflect on, but maybe McEachran.

Murph for saving the pen, then for not getting sent off at the end.

Got to be Mahoney, had the penalty not been saved could have been a totally different result. Pulled off a couple of blinders.

Haha.  Goalkeeper is going to win in when you score four goals away.

McEachran.Fell apart when he went off. Closely followed by Mahoney and Minturn, who I thought was our best defender

For a keeper who conceded three and made a damn good go at giving them the fourth too. Great 90 minutes from him but injury time was criminal. MoM candidates for me limited to Kokolo, Minturn, Young and McEachran.

The performances of Austin, Kokolo and Kinsella were the few of merit not also marred by professional negligence.

But MMs saves inc. the penalty save did make the difference between 3pts. and none.  We are lucky to have him.  Hopefully for the whole season.

Kinsella - a new lease of life for the entire midfield

So here's an interesting question. Jake Young has 16 goals in 16 starts this season in the league, and has fewer votes overall than Mahoney, Brewitt, Kemp & Khan and only slightly more than UGM. Brewitt and Kemp have nearly twice as many.

Have we ever appreciated a striker scoring this many goals so little?

His goal contribution is insane but he doesn't really do much else

Same could have been said of Doyle, too. But he does his job - unlike most of the “defenders’

Clearly I'm in a huge majority but I actually voted for Young, I thought he led the line pretty well and took his goal brilliantly. (yes it was put on a plate by Hutton but there we are)

It was such an odd game last night, we were in complete control and thought the whole team for 90 minutes were good, without any standouts. It's evident that FBT is going to be allowed to do much of the stepping into midfield going forward, I think UGM's pace is needed for when the ball is lost in transition. Minturn is also comfortable doing it, but really needs to check his over-confidence at times as it's going to come back to bite him sooner rather than later. We were all saying how the CDM in the midfield was required, Kinsella has stepped in and done a better than OK job. Pleased for Charlie to get a goal from open play as well.

I was going to vote for Mahoney for keeping us in th egame but he put a bit of a dampner on that by nearly losing us the game at the end, so I will go Kinsella. But, Minturn did well again, bar his 2 silly mistakes and also FBT and Kokolo played quite well too, McEachran had his best game in months too and Kemp and Young both played well.
