Title: Swindon v Newport MoM Thread
Post by: Nemo on Saturday, October 14, 2023, 15:58:28
First half not great, second half pretty good, three points in the bag and they barely landed a punch.

Lots of pretty good performances, few stand outs. Brewitt, Shade, Khan, Austin, Kemp contenders for me. I went Charlie.

Khan just about for me. Caveat, I missed the first half of the second half. I thought he looked strong on the ball, passed well, almost a goal near the end, broke up play well etc.

Brewitt I thought looked largely untroubled by all their big lumps, so lots of credit his way as well.

No shockers on our side, Newport we’re fairly bad, not helped by their main man being injured early I’m sure.

Brewitt (#obvs).

That said, Chaz worked his nuts off.

Shade had his best game in a good while and I actually thought Hutton’s defensive work was improved.

Unashamedly voting for Brewitt again. Once again our standout defender. Austin close for his second half performance and Shade I think solving the LWB problem.

I thought UGM was good.

Brewitt for me - followed by Shade, Godwin-Malife and McEachran

Brewitt by a country mile

Yet another assist from Chas - and I'm coming to appreciate his allround performances and thought he perhaps deserved the reward of a TEF MOM.

But bloody Brewitt, after an early hesitation, once again held his hand up and wins it for me.  Our only true "defender", he's grown meteorically in stature this season and is the enabler for UGM and Blake Tracey's attacking link up play.

Brewitt seems to have been the obvious choice more often than not this season.
Another near flawless display and held his own against a strong & difficult opponent.

Decent all round display from Austin I thought.
Didn't get the goal but a nice assist which is just as important.

Went for Shade though.
Played for the team & did his part in a good defensive display.
Maybe a confidence player, but on his day has the potential to be unplayable at this level.
Up to Flynn to coax a good level of consistency out of him & a good run of games can only help.

I thought Brewitt was off it for the first half hour. Possibly shook after an unjustified yellow card. He was immense in the second half though.

I went for Kemp though - absolute class. Enjoy him while he's here.

He’s a brilliant player at this level. I can’t remember anyone having this much impact in our team. He’s Payne x 2 at least.

Two Swindon players made the EFL team of the week...

FBT and Mahoney

That's er... a contrast to the views here!

https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1732993/Live/England-2023-2024-League-Two-Swindon-Newport

It's based on the stats cave here, who have Brewitt on 7.8, FBT on 7.9 and Mahoney on 7.6. I can't really see that Mahoney had much to do, so not really sure how he ended up that high.

I thought FBT was poor yesterday, and Phil Smith’s one decent bit of analysis called him out when he tried to back into/hold off their player in the box rather than head it in the first half. Dreadful defending.

So that’s 3 players one yellow card away from suspension.

I gave it to Brewitt as he had their main threat Bogle  in his pocket all game- very instrumental in keeping the clean sheet.

Kemp played a blinder though he had a couple of wayward passes.

Austin was involved in a lot of our play. His sheer presence on the pitch is a headache for opposition defenders.

Shade had a handful of moments that exhibited what a good player he can be.

No one had a bad game, just some were less good than others.

Edited because autocorrect

43 votes! Is that a record?

This season yes. Charlie's four goal game last year got 45. All time record is 64 I think (Lewis Ward v FGR)

I didn't watch the game Saturday....but generally speaking I don't think the people that pick these teams of the week watch the games either.

Oh dear... just enjoyed the LSPOD but the mental gymnastics on MOTM never cease to make me laugh.

Siding with the 10.4%. Shunning the 66.2%.

So he got the sponsors' man of the match, STFC Twitter man of the match, TEF man of the match, LSPOD listeners' man of the match... but they gave it to Kemp.

I admire your commitment to Podcast monitoring - you should start Ofpod!

Personally I didn't think it was a "one player head and shoulders above the rest" game, but there you go. Have no problem with Brewitt being MoM, but I though there were 3-4 players including him who were 8/10s, rather than an Austin-vs-Rochdale type "one 10/10 and 10 5/10s"

I guess they can only go on stats really, you would have to have very little going on in life to sit down and watch all 12 games every week

I'd be neglecting my duties as founder and Chairman of the Tom Brewitt Fanclub if I didn't try and keep them honest.
