Title: Is it wrong Post by: Onion_Jimbo on Sunday, September 11, 2005, 23:47:50 That I have totally not one clue about what the hell is going on in Northern Ireland? It's something I have always managed to ignore. Why dont they teach this in my school? Someone tell me EXACTLY (but in simple terms) why there are riots.
And you should have just asked the Kaiser chiefs as they predicted this would happen. Title: Is it wrong Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, September 11, 2005, 23:49:18 They wouldn't sell sonicyouth any guinness

Title: Is it wrong Post by: Dazzza on Monday, September 12, 2005, 00:03:53 The Orange Men date back to William of Orange the Dutch chap who fought against the Catholic order.
They have been marching for years and it usually runs through the heavily Catholic areas which causes upset. The latest riots stem from their route being changed by the police more than likely to try and avoid trouble. Apparently they were non to happy and things have kicked off right left and centre. Title: Is it wrong Post by: Spud on Monday, September 12, 2005, 00:37:29 Apparently the Molotov Cocktail has been their weapon of choice this weekend.

Title: Is it wrong Post by: Onion_Jimbo on Tuesday, September 13, 2005, 17:42:49 why arent you telling me EXACTLY why there is rioting (in simple terms)
Title: Is it wrong Post by: yeo on Tuesday, September 13, 2005, 17:45:20 There is rioting because protestants are insisting on marching down staunch catholic roads and catholics dont like it.
Title: Is it wrong Post by: Spud on Tuesday, September 13, 2005, 18:00:50 Bsically both sides are to blame!.
Title: Is it wrong Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, September 13, 2005, 18:19:29 Essentally after beating England their lads went on a three day non stop drinking binge, and at the end of it fancied a riot for old times sake.
Title: Is it wrong Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Tuesday, September 13, 2005, 18:25:13 brief history:
early 20th century irish catholics wanted independce from britain and after an uprising and subsequent things they were granted independence, except the 6 counties of the north, antrim, down, armagh, fermanagh, derry and tyrone. the arguement was that the majority in these counties were protestant and wanted to remain part of the uk. so northern ireland was formed. however the minority of catholics was not small it was about 40%. and they wanted to be part of the republic of ireland. the troubles have stemmed from there, each community celebrates certain anniversaries to commerorate historic battle victories, and they all march/light bonfires etc. the problem with the orange/protestant marches is that there old routes now go through catholic estates/areas, and conflict arises. the authorities redirect these routes and the orangemen feel that there heritage is being taken away from them and go ape shit. personally i would let them march through catholic areas but only in twos and 5 minutes apart. that would surely keep both sides happy :D Title: Is it wrong Post by: McLovin on Tuesday, September 13, 2005, 18:56:24 can't everyone in that part just all agree to go away for the day, to ikea, or down the pub. by the time they get back, it'll all be over.
Title: Is it wrong Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Tuesday, September 13, 2005, 19:01:13 The police did try to organise that but ikea was shut for refurbishment after rioting.

Title: Is it wrong Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, September 13, 2005, 23:16:09 They will probably use red diesel. Use of illegal fuel in Ireland is rife and there are profits made in fuel trafficing (no word of a lie)
