Title: Buried or Cremated?
Post by: The Artist Formerly Known as Audrey on Monday, June 28, 2021, 13:11:50
Always been cremation for me, but there is no option for that here in Greece atm.

Don’t fancy a hole in the ground.

As my old dad used to say ' I'm not looking forward to either much!'

I want to be left out in the wild so animals can eat me.

Or donate my body to science. There's places that leave bodies to rot in fields so they can study what happens. That'll be cool.

The other year when my mum was at her last ebb my sister asked her about funeral arrangements, my mums response 'I don't bloody care, its not as if will be there will I!'

So humanist cremation it was.

I agree with Horlock's mum. Go for the cheapest/whatever.

Anyway, reminds me of a song we did at a cubs thingy back in the day:

Have you ever seen the hearse go by?
And wonder what it's like to die
They wrap you up in a big white sheet
And drop you down about six feet deep
And all goes well for about a week
Until your coffin begins to leak
The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out
The worms play BINGO! in your snout
Your toes curl in and your eyes pop out
Your guts turn into sauerkraut
Your face it turns a sickening green
And puss pours out like whipping cream
Have you ever seen the hearse go by?
And wonder what it's like to die
.....
The morale of this story is, don't be buried, get cremated

I’m sure there’s a sect in India, I think, that hangs dead bodies from trees to get picked clean and then they bury the bones.

With my health problems my funeral is all sorted and paid for ready to go so I don't leave the wife a £5,000 bill for a basic funeral.

Gonna be cremated not sure about where to put the ashes yet though, as most are aware my dads ashes are under the goal frame at the County Ground near the Town End about 4 foot down, so I may do that too.

I tried donating my body to medical science but was told they have more than enough so was unable to do it.

Never fancied being 6 foot under inside a box.

Yeah. I’ve got a plan in the UK. Not sure what happens if I croak here, though.

Zoroastrian's as a faith used to have a Tower of Silence, an open tower, a bit like a Martello Tower as seen on the south coast. The tower was open at the top and the deceased were laid out inside to decompose/ be fed upon by vultures etc.

Me? I fancied recycling but that isn't yet an option so I'm going for Direct Cremation.

Not just yet mind.

It’s all about timing for me. I don’t want to check out over here, yet I don’t want to go back to the UK any time soon.

Cremation for me, then they can put my ashes in the trench they dig outside somewhere. I definately don't want to be buried.

There's something quite natural about nature taking your body back as it decomposes.  But I don't want that to happen to me.  Cremation for me.

I don’t care, because I’ll be dead. If anything’s salvageable donate it, if not mash me up and flush me down the toilet.

Totally agree. Couldn't really give a fuck. If any of me is good for anyone else then just take it. The rest just chuck somewhere.

In line with some views expressed, I won't be here so why should I care also applies to me.

There is still however plenty of room to go a step further and consider what those you may leave behind will find most consoling.  Ask them over Sunday lunch or when next at the Legends.

In most cases, cremation will be the more economical, the easier to arrange and the more flexible.  I personally like the fact that you can share ashes about.  Mantelpiece, the offshore fishing trip (mind the wind, obviously), the garden, a favourite place, different relatives, the flight back home etc.

Disposing of a body by contrast leaves your options much more limited.  You can rule out the County Ground and also the back garden if your spouse or heirs might want to sell your house appealingly one day.  On days where my self esteem goes into overweening overdrive, I do consider a mausoleum in the grounds of a country estate I may one day own.

If you're not emigrated or thinking of it, then Venks' prepayment and advance attention is especially considerate.  Well done, Sir.

Edit:  WTAF!  I'd switched over from Spain v Croatia at 3-1 with 10 minutes to go >:(

Got a load of paperwork through the post from a company offering to collect you from home/hospital (once dead of course),  cremate you, no service or anything then send the ashes back to the family for around £1700 payable now up front.
Sounded like a good deal to me and to me I was really interested but put it to one side and forgot all about it.   Haven't seen this offered anywhere else since, did I dodge a speeding bullet or has anyone else heard of this ??,  Great offer in theory, but is this a scam ??.

Waste incinerator will do for me. I may be able to generate enough energy to charge a kettle for a cup of tea.

I still like the idea of cryogenics. You know...just in case. Be mad to see how the world was in around 200 years (provided we haven't already caused our own demise).

You can be buried at sea.
