Title: New £5 note
Post by: Sippo on Saturday, December 3, 2016, 21:35:29
I'm looking at you Bennett. Fucking vegans complaining about it.

Ps. I have an AA one. Is it worth £4.99 or more?

Happy to dispose of them on behalf of the pasty faced lentil botherers

I prefer not to use anything that causes harm to an animal but I also accept it's relatively unavoidable in the modern world.

If you give up a fiver due to the minuscule amounts there then you're giving up a lot of other things. Good for you if you do, but I don't feel it's practical or suitable for me personally.

It's completely bonkers and if they are thinking of replacing everything that has been produced so far because vegans won't touch them then fuck them.

Insulation, rubber, antifreeze, floor wax, crayons, chalk, adhesives, fertiliser, lard, shaving cream, soaps, make-up, leather, brushes etc etc etc

Do vegans genuinely spend all of their life trying to dodge touching any of the above which are examples of animal by products in them. Poor sad fuckers if so

Why is it necessary to kill animals to make currency?
I'm with the vegans on this. They choose a lifestyle where they won't use any animal products and that is fair enough as far as I'm concerned. This was a stupid move as some people would clearly have a problem with it.

What is this world coming to?

I won't be happy until we have currency made of 100% meat.

So do we need to replace money slang such as Pony or Monkey as well?

'Lend us a Turnip mate'. 'That old banger? I can do it for a Spud, pal'.

Are you suggesting that animals are being killed just for the tallow? Because if so you are definitely with the vegans on this with stupidity

No I'm not.

What's stupid about living a lifestyle that doesn't cause harm to animals ?
I'd say the people that choose to live that way have given a lot of thought to their decision and are far from stupid.
I'm not vegan, veggie or religious but understand where they're coming from on this. Making bank notes with animal by products means their lifestyle choice is impacted upon.

It's a 'trace' amount, which scientifically is less than 100ppm. They probably contact more animal by-product when they touch a door handle or sit on a public crapper.

If it's a trace amount then that's even more reason to question why it's in there at all.

Yep. I'm not even vegetarian (can't be, really, but I'd like to be) but why knock people for caring about it? If things can be made without animals, then they should be. If they can't, I'm not too arsed. But it'd be nice. And it's good to know about it.

This is good on the subject: http://www.vice.com/en_uk/read/a-very-precise-calculation-of-exactly-how-many-cows-are-being-murdered-for-the-new-fivers

Particularly: Here are some e-petitions that revolve around the same theme – the value of animal life – that currently have less signatures at the time of writing:

– Shutting down the UK's domestic ivory trade has 71,416 signatures.
– Increasing the maximum sentence for animal cruelty charges has 51,473 signatures.
– Ending the badger cull has 63,461 signatures.

I completely respect people's rights and opinions to be vegan, but this is just another shitty case of public "outrage" over nothing. Also, e-petitions are the biggest pile of shit invention around.

I think it is the stearic acid (derived from tallow) that is used as a mold release for the polypropylene used in the notes. Can get it from palm oil or cocoa - mmmmm choccy fivers

Its obviously there for a reason, people don't tend to go to the expense of adding ingredients to things just for the sake of it?

The new fivers are easier to to snort coke through (allegedly). Can't have it all, can we?

HELLO!
I'd say this being news worthy (especially in the current climate) is terrifying.
That said, do we really need to use animal products for things such as money?!

That's it, the new fiver has been deliberately designed to reduce the escalating problem of Cocaine addition in Vegans - makes perfect sense to me!

What I don't understand is the constant reference to how little of it there is. Surely if you're a vegan, or particularly if you're avoiding animals for religious reasons, these things are absolute? It's either present or it isn't, and if it is, it's unacceptable. It doesn't matter if there's trace amounts or if the entire currency is made from cheese (that would be great though.)

It's moaning for the sake of moaning IMO. In reality they are going to come into contact with 'animal products' left, right and centre so where do you draw the line. Do these people honestly really go avoiding every animal product there is so no leather shoes, if a taxi or bus turns up with leather seats do they not get in? As others have said loads of plastics, rubbers etc have traces of animal products in but people just don't know it.  In reality if they want to avoid them in the modern world they need to go live in a wooden hut in the middle of a forest!

I think it's a question of having a choice. The fact the note is nigh on a unavoidable (unless you go to the hut/forest dream you mention) is a bit off.

And yes, people can choose to not get in a taxi if the seats are leather, but that's their choice

I wonder if vegan women/men carry vegan condoms with them on a night out. Pesky animal products everywhere, can't even enjoy a skittle the poor people

You can't give £5 to every charity in the world, but that doesn't make the £5 you give to one worthless. You do what you believe in, to the best of your ability I guess.

If we say Muslims we would be racists

And inaccurate given it's Hinduism that has the biggest problem with it.

Is Suzanne the Queen there? Got a catchy but ultimately somewhat tedious national anthem...

It's the fear of the other....as society continues to fragment under, in our corner of the planet, the Tory government and their global overlords....divide and rule is the name of the game.

Generally speaking I prefer, the Forsythian view that "life is the name of the game"

Could there be Vegans  :hmmm: Alpha Lyrae is only 25 light years away, practically a neighbour.
