Title: Why the early kick off Saturday?

no, although there is a stream (ask Tans)

Its an early KO because England are playing at 5.

We had this conversation last Wednesday. Wobbly Bob helpfully pointed out it's so that people can go to Town game and then get to see England game.

Others pointed out a preference for a trip to the dentists, over either. (I made that bit up)

For various reasons it's our first game of the season.  Feeling bullish after our heroic two match unbeaten run.

If it was for the England game wouldn't all games in England be kicking off early?

I think other clubs have been very accomodating keeping their Kick Offs at 3pm in oder to help their fans avoid the ignominy of watching England :girlgiggle:

I won't get to see it anyway, all I've got the pleasure of is getting a train at 8 in the pissing morning.

A stream existing =/= being on TV.

But not on English satellite tv. Similar I think to when we played Huddersfield at home in the FA Cup first round some years ago. Was shown on foreign tv which allows users to stream the games.

Hope it's the former. #globalbrand

It's a cunning plan to get me to drink too much export guiness and have a cracking headache by 9pm. And it'll work, the fuckers.

No mate you are thinking of the Guiness Foreign Extra 7.5% 330ml. I like that put in a pint glass and topped up with Port....mmm :)

Title: Re: Why the early kick off Saturday?
Post by: Flashheart on Friday, October 7, 2016, 14:04:51
In Malaysia, the strong stuff is often the norm. Go into a corner shop and where you'll usually find the 'normal' stuff like Heineken and what-not is tucked away somewhere, instead you find special-brew and Guinness extra etc. I ordered a couple of Guinness in a restaurant and started to feel it after only a couple. I thought I was being a lightweight until I found out what I was drinking.

Apparently, it's for the Muslims. In Malaysia a lot of them interpret the rules on alcohol to say they are limited to drinking a certain volume of alcohol beverage, so they drink the strong stuff to get pissed while keeping in the rules.

I had not realised that but it makes sense.

As you know I am partial to some good strong beers, a very strong one from Belgium I sometimes have imported is Gordons Finest Titanium at 14%.

I had a case of 24 sent over form Christmas last year...its not bad but not if you drink wussy 5% beers then I doubt they could stomach it.

I tend to keep clear of the stronger stuff, I end up too wrecked otherwise. But then drinking in excess of 10 pints plus copious spirits is quite standard for a night out for me.

I mighty the wrong name for it, but yeah, 6.8% and quite possibly Malaysian. They probably do a few versions, there's a Nigerian one and a West Indian one I think. There's a couple of local 8% stouts that I'll drink at countryside weddings with the pissheads, other than that I stick to guinness.

I'm sitting here surrounded by Tyskie 5.5%; Warka 5.5%; Tatra 6.0%; Mocne 7.0%. Do they count as strong?

There's a beer here simply called Klang(strong), which is 6% so I'm going to say that's your marker.

Title: Re: Why the early kick off Saturday?

7% is probably the borderline, although maybe the strong beers I've tried haven't been the right type...

Indeed, and 99% of the time beer is vastly better than early KO's in football.

A few years back in Szczecin (western Poland), 9 in the morning in Feb waiting for a taxi, minus 10, I gave a drunk a decent hand-out. Holding a can of Mocne, he'd asked for money in Polish, German, Russian and finally English.

Any drunk who can panhandle in 4 languages is OK by me.

All the above beers, and plenty more decent ones, usually available in your local sklep for a quid.
