Title: Lee marshall
Post by: bilko on Monday, April 18, 2016, 14:14:57
So lee Marshall in a trial game for Sheffield Wednesday today it's a fucking joke he hasn't been given a chance in our first team and landonlo playing ahead of him who is too lightweight and not good enough yet especially in the current position were in.
I do wonder if LP has made a fuck up putting LW in charge.

All things considered, is it really "a fucking joke"?

Lee, being a first year pro and being thrown into our current team wouldn't do him any favours or the side imo.

These type of games can be for a variety of reasons.

on one hand it's disappointing our youngsters are moving/considering going elsewhere before playing for us.

on the other hand if it allows us to keep players like ajose/obika  I'll take it. not that I'm convinced it will.

Title: Re: Lee marshall
Post by: Flashheart on Monday, April 18, 2016, 14:30:26
Complains that a youngster (Marshall) is not being given a chance, also complains that another youngster (Iandolo) is playing and not ready yet.

OK then.....

Title: Re: Lee marshall
Post by: JoeMezz on Monday, April 18, 2016, 14:42:27
Do players that have come through the academy have appearance fees? Hence why Iandolo plays regularly but seems like Marshall doesn't get a look in (and Randall was sold before he could make a big impact)

For a coach supposedly championing youth, it seems strange we are willing to get shot. Especially so when you see some of the shit youngsters we have brought in

Title: Re: Lee marshall

Hes having a trial at a higher division club, who have a better academy than we do and probably a much higher standard of coaching (for that age group at least).

Good luck to him, the club get a fee for a youngster if the trial pays off, he gets a higher standard of matches against better opposition.

He is obviously not considered good enough for our first team yet or LW and LP would have played him regularly so he has nothing to lose but all to gain.

And the major point in all of this.....as hard a a notion as it appears to be to a lot our fans, one that many are unable to comprehend.....we are, always have been and probably always will be a selling club.

We sell players to higher division clubs to forward the players careers and help fill the club coffers....that would be the same with our without Lee Power at the club.

Maybe.  But for a young player who has had little opportunity to show off his talent here but still manages to interest a club way above us should tell you something.

Ditto for the 2 who went to Wolves.

But then BOO, Balmy, Barry and Iandolo who have all had different degrees of exposure with us probably couldn't attract interest from any FL club.

Title: Re: Lee marshall

This whole thread feels like nit-picking and complaining for the sake of complaining.

Not once have I read/heard stuff like "we need Lee Marshall in, he could make a difference."

It's announced that he's on trial elsewhere and suddenly he's the missing link.

It's nothing to do with the individuals concerned. But when what are considered to be promising youngsters we've brought the youth system are allowed to leave without having a chance at Swindon  but the young shit we've brought in play regularly it makes you wonder where priorities lay.

Title: Re: Lee marshall
Post by: horlock07 on Monday, April 18, 2016, 15:23:08
Our academy is great for young players confidence, they come here, no one ever sees them play a game, the coaching staff see them very day in training and decide they won't make the grade and thus they are allowed to look at other options.

However by that stage to most of our fans are convinced that they are the next Marcus Rashford, whatever you say about Power's system it works in hyping up players, look at Miles 'Vardy' Storey and Ty 'De Gea' Belford as two such examples.......

I'm just questioning why young players not deemed good enough for us are being signed by clubs higher up the food chain, presumably for money.

They may be doing something ridiculous like signing players for the future? Imagine that, signing players based on potential.

Title: Re: Lee marshall
Post by: Flashheart on Monday, April 18, 2016, 15:32:07
They're not yet considered good enough for our FIRST TEAM, yet. I doubt very much that Marshall will slot straight into Wednesday's first team either. Rather they'll potentially see him as a good enough prospect for the future and take him on to continue his development.

To ask why he's considered good enough for them but not for us is completely missing the point.

Ok promising. Of course it is for money we could be cashing in on someone who may be worth fuckall in 12 months. People need to realise we can't afford to not cash in on these type of players who 'might' be good enough.

Considering the amount of 'promising' players we've sold in the past before making their first team bows, I can't think of any who've actually made it (Walcott excluded as he was about 10) - Leigh Mills was meant to a certainty to make it and he got nowhere near

The list of youngsters sold for good money (£50k+) at Swindon is large considering the size of our club, as you state hardly any have ever made it anywhere else with the only exception being Paul Rideout who was sold for £250k aged 18.

Hardly any others even made it onto the bench at their new clubs, Ben Tozer, Leigh Mills, Alex Henshall, Jamie Stephens, Jared Thompson and a few others, admittedly Thompson has not been there long yet.

Title: Re: Lee marshall
Post by: RobertT on Monday, April 18, 2016, 16:44:39
Given the very vast majority of our youth players never make it anywhere of note, surely the right thing to do is bite anyone's hand off if they offer money for them?

As for the argument that they haven't been given a chance - they are not being signed based on current ability, they are being signed as a gamble based on potential in several years time.  It's what clubs further up the chain do with their Elite programs - hoover up anyone with a sniff of a chance, because they can afford to stock pile- when one of the 1000 they go for pays off, they rake in savings (see what Ibrahimovic is currently likely to costa  club for one year).  Even players like Byrne are treated this way by clubs like Wolves - big money for us, a bit of a punt for them.  If Byrne can't make the team at Wolves, I'd imagine Marshall will about 80th in line at Weds.

Out of contract in the summer, so as mentioned above somewhere, maybe his decision.

Should have had more of a chance this season with all the injuries we've had.

Is the lad surplus to requirements and the club are trying to help him get a club before the mass exodus of 1 year pro's getting released all over the country, or are they trying to cash in on him ?

Title: Re: Lee marshall
Post by: The Artist Formerly Known as Audrey on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, 08:36:24
Obviously, first thought is they are cashing in.

But as he is out of contract in the summer I can't imagine another club paying for him when he'll be free then.

There may be some compensation due because of his age,  but I don't really know how that works tbh

Title: Re: Lee marshall
Post by: Panda Paws on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, 09:06:28
Maybe... just maybe... Sheff Wed rang the club, expressed their interest and we are happy to see him go on to a better platform. He's not ready for our first team, we have no reserves, he's out of contract - it'd be a cunt move to not let him go to there so they can have a look at him. We get some small compo if he does go, so long as we offer him a deal.

Not everything has to be "cashing in", "flogging our future" etc... It's a perfectly normal set of circumstances that happens at every club up and down the country without any sort of conspiracy theory.

Title: Re: Lee marshall
Post by: Nomoreheroes on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, 09:09:56
Its an odd one. I remember him having a trial up at Liverpool about 18 months ago after our youths did really well then got slaughtered by Liverpool. I thought he was on his way out then, but he's still here.

The fact that he doesn't seem to have made the team much this year and has a few unused sub appearances doesn't bode well.

It's something like we're due compo if you offer a player a contract at the same terms or better and he's under 24. The player can refuse to accept but the club will get some dosh. A high profile case of this is Danny Ings to Liverpool although the Fa have flaffled about with  that.
