Title: Oldham Weather
Post by: ferret on Friday, March 4, 2016, 08:43:06
48 schools closed in Oldham today due to snow. It seems to be the worst hit place in the country.

Looks as if we'll be having a weekend off unless things warm up pretty quickly.

Had a nose at the Oldham forum and some of them are saying there's no way the game will be on.

This seems to happen to us a lot... Have a fixture postponed just as we're hitting really decent form.

A night game at Oldham is less than ideal. Pah.

Who do the comments? If so they don't, you leave the snow on until you know its finished, otherwise the pitch freezes. If no more snow after 3 today, they can then think when's the best time to get it off. Anyway it will be off as the stands will be dodgy still. Think if on it would be a nailed on draw. Best to play them when they are safe or down ;)

In theory. Its a complete bastard to get frozen snow off a pitch :)

But yeah, stand safety...

I hope it's on!  Making a weekend of it visiting my daughter in Preston, although driving across the Pennines might be tricky.

Forecast there is snow until 3am then clear, then sunny from 7am. A small chance then maybe.

Spent most of day around Etihad so approx 7 miles from Oldham, snowed whole time we were there but only 10 miles into journey home ( swindon ) it had stopped.was fairly slushy around the ground but wasn't really settling on roads etc.

Oldham tweeted they expect rain later and warmer temps tomorrow so are hopeful

Div 3N ok for a select minority of us on here who live in the frozen tundra wastelands of the far North.....until stuff like this happens. Gutted, was looking forward to watching a resurgent Swindon. Still got a few trips planned, Rochdale, Bradford, Scunthorpe, all glamorous locations in their own way.

You say that but I have lived up north now for 23 years, and it snows up here considerably less than it ever did in Oxfordshire!

Even more reason to have a ground that copes and not be the only game off in the NWest with 7.5 hours before kick off.

Apart from the Pennies had a pretty clear trip. Weather much better here (Preston) than in Lincolnshire.

I travelled up on the Friday afternoon because me and the missus were spending the weekend with mates anyway. Didn't really seem all that icy after about 10am. It was actually a lovely sunny day so me and my mate went to the Etihad instead.

It didn't feel like it was a health & safety thing around the ground as all the snow was gone by 11/12am. So it must be just to do with how bad the pitch was. Shame, really.

Twice this season we've been the only game off on a Saturday away day....obviously part of the FL/FA anti Swindon conspiracy.
