Title: New Tablet
Post by: kerry red on Friday, August 8, 2014, 15:22:26
I presently use a fairly old I-Pad and increasingly have problems loading some Apps as the Apple software won't support them and the system software of the I-Pad isn't upgradeable.

I can get a new one through work at a bit of a discount but was wondering if these cheapish android tablets are any good - I.e they are around the £80 mark.

I'm not a heavy data user. Any advice. Ta

SiPie just got a Nexus and loves it by all accounts.

The really cheap ones tend to not work with all apps.

Just looked it up - on offer at £169 which is less than half the cost of a new i-Pad.

Seems very competitive. Ta

The Nexus is actually made by Google too so is compatible with every app on the play store. I've got a Samsung 10.1, always been good enough for me.

No it's not. The present version is made by ASUS. It simply has the stock Android software loaded as the operating system.

Made by ASUS at Google's request. It is, for all intents and purposes, Google hardware.

A 1st gen Nexus 7 32gb is currently 100 quid brand new at Argos. That is an absolute bargain.

I got lucky and found a refurb for under 50 quid which is perfect aside from a tiny mark on the corner of the bezel.

The sub £100 ones are unbelievably frustrating to use.

EDIT: Looks like Argos sold out of them. The 2nd gen is better but obviously more expensive

Make sure you try one out before getting so you're not disappointed. There are cheaper tablets out there but they aren't comparable to an iPad and those that are cost pretty much the same - a Nexus 10 costs £320 for example.

If you decide against an iPad I'd pay the extra and get something decent (Google or Samsung) as the generic brand sub £100 tablets are generally cheap crap.

Plumped for a Samsung Galaxy for £200

Now, I want to sell off my iPad 5.1.1 but is there any way I can properly delete the stuff from the memory.

Don't fancy leaving passwords, log ins etc. hanging around on it

Reset the iPad.
Settings > general > reset > erase all settings and content
