Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Post by: yeo on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 09:23:59 Quote However, King was far from pleased with an un-named member of his squad who was less keen to play for the second string. "People have laughed about playing in the reserves but I will leave them and perhaps let them hang themselves on their own high opinions of themselves," he said. "They might come knocking on my door but let me say that only I will pick the team from now on." Sheffield Wednesday winger Richard Evans played in the reserves' 4-2 win over Cheltenham Town but King was not overly impressed. "I might have another look because Sheffield Wednesday are prepared to pay up his contract," he said. "But I thought his performance today was poor so I'm not going to make a decision on that." Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Post by: Johno on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 09:40:50 well to be honest, Thorpe now will be behind cureton for a starting place, and probably Roberts, if he just does well in training, plays in the reserves, he can only try and impress kingy. Not playing won't get him back in the first team.
Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Post by: fatbury on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 09:52:39 Thorpe is injured so it aint him ... can only be Roberts as hes the only sub who didnt play in the reserves :-))(

Quote they might come knocking on my door but let me say that only I will pick the team from now on which kind of implies either he was ordered to select the player in question or maybe that Reeeeeves/Woan had been given more of a say and this guy was one of their choices? Can't see it being the second option, FWIW Or am I reading too much into this all together? Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Post by: Reg Smeeton on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 10:02:32 Roberts played the 90 v Oldham, then 25 mins on Sat ....so probably not him... Thorpe had a cold, so could perhaps have done with some sort of run out.
Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Post by: pauld on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 10:32:09 AK don't like that kind of thing though. Remember Juan Cobian and his "I don't see why I should play 100% for the reserves" and then couldn't understand why he wasn't given a chance to prove himself in the 1st team?
Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Post by: jim on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 10:52:29 It was Roberts.

FACT Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Post by: Piemonte on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 11:13:11 I think it was Thorpe, Roberts has had a decent ammount of first team football in the last week
Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 11:20:16 I'd have thought Roberts would be the most likely.
Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Post by: Piemonte on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 11:23:25 Actually i've changed my mind. It was Nicho as the reserve game would interupt his drinking :guinness: And thats what the WDP says and they are always right
(note for Santini & Jim That was a joke) Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Post by: Dazzza on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 11:29:06 Doubt it's Nicholas as he's always plugged away in the reserves quite happily before and taken a loan spell to Chester without any moaning.
I'd sat Thorpe is certainly the favourite. In fact my top secret source within the club whom I cannot ever possibly reveal the identity of says it's VERY TRUE! Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 11:39:35 Everyone stop saying FACT!
That's my word. FACT! My guess would be Thorpe. Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Post by: janaage on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 11:47:58 As much as I like the fella I reckon i might be Roberts. I hope it isn't as it'll mean he's pissed off king and probably won't get the run out in the first team he deserves.

Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Post by: janaage on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 12:13:33 I hope it's not Roberts then, he's looked one of the sharpest players so far this season.
Maybe it is Thorpe, signed as a "big name" then three games later playing for the reserves, that might hurt the pride a little. Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Post by: Dazzza on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 13:06:04 Quote from: "janaage" A good journo never reveals his source SY. Or a good rumourmonger like myself. Although I'd like to add I am an accredited journo of a Sunday national. The Sunday Sport Thorpe seems to fit in with my sources tip-off and follows the trail of King’s thought in the interview having spoken about Fallon being an automatic choice and the rest fighting it out for one spot. Thorpe having not played last week, the manager logically wanting to see a new player in action whom hasn’t featured opposed to one that has in the last week and has been at the club for some time. I wouldn't get carried away mind I doubt he'll be sent to Coventry or should that be Chippenham just yet. Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 13:36:00 This is why i think Roberts.
King said in an interview he saw Roberts as 4th choice striker behind Thorpe, Cureton and Fallon and if he didn't want to be judged as a wide midfielder he still had a lot to prove. He also mentioned a player who felt he should start against Nottingham Forest because according to him he played well on tuesday but King said he expects players to play well for the full 90 minutes, not just the last half hour - Roberts against Oldham. Roberts has a history of getting fed up if he's not first choice striker and it sounds like something he would do, can't see it being Thorpe. Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Has King actually said that he views Roberts as 4th choice striker and that he will be judged on being a right winger until such a date that he proves himself worthy? I’ve always read it as everyone being on a clean slate with no player having an automatic priority or right to a starting birth. Far more likely to be Thorpe. He’s not had much of an opportunity to impress so far, missed training and the last game with a cold and is the third cog in the wheel if you like that has to show willing for a starting slot at Blackpool. Plus add to the fact Roberts has previously quite happily plugged away in the reserves when asked opposed to Tony Thorpe. Saturday should give a good indication as King rarely starts players in the reserves midweek who are going to figure prominently at the weekend. Roberts may come across as a bit of a twat but he’s not that bigger twat give him some credit. Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Post by: I 8 Razor on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 14:15:35 roberts would be my second choice striker at the moment, he's been quality i think. I like the thought of robbo and fallon up there this term.
Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Post by: walrus on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 14:23:03 My guess would be Thorpe, and the story of a "cold" being a cover-up story. A mere "cold" rarely keeps players out of matches, particularly the Forest game which I imagine Thorpe had designs on starting after scoring a fantastic finish against Oldham (it really was pinpoint).
I think Roberts and Thorpe are favourites for this prima donna, but whoever it is I hope they're fined 2 weeks wages and that's the end of the matter, but we all know King holds grudges. Roberts is fantastic when on song and did well against Forest at the weekend. With Thorpe, Roberts, Fallon and Cureton all on side we have the best strikeforce in the division, potentially. "He has a lot of work to do yet and although he had a purple patch when he first arrived, Christian Roberts has got to prove to me what he can do. He has indicated he doesn't want to play wide out on the right and he has a lot to show me yet," finished King. http://www.swindontownfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/NewsDetail/0,,10341~694118,00.html Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves? Title: Who was it that wont play for the reserves?
