Title: TV Problem
Post by: tans on Saturday, January 4, 2014, 17:11:53
Evening,

I have noticed this on my TV recently.

You only see it when there is a white background on the screen. Its a 42 inch Panasonic Plasma bought in 2008. I think its a panel fault from having a look on the interwebz. Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

Try changing the gamma settings mate, that can cause a similar clour bleed effect.

Don't move the TV, you could damage it, try putting the couch on its side instead.

This is kind of a TV Problem but we have moved the TV into a different room and no longer use the TV Aeriel on the top of the building in the hope to use an internal aerial (All In One). We don't seem to be able to pick up any freeview channels now.

Are internal aeriels basically shit?

Its not a massive deal as we can use freeview through the internet but it would be good if we could get it working if possible.

As Samdy so eloquently explained, yep. I did have some success with one living in Camden though, if I remember BO you're working/living in London? If so it's pretty doused with TV signal, so if you find the right place for one it can work.

Yeah we live in Battersea in a relatively old place, so thick walls etc. Apparently the closest mast is Crystal Palace which is 5 miles away but still no signal received on the TV.

Thanks for the confirmation of the internal aerials being knickers, £30 down the swanee!

Just take it back and say it doesn't work.

Will try that but didn't keep the receipt and not totally sure where we got it from (we've had to buy loads of stuff for the house recently!), although I'm 90% sure it was Maplin.

All of the south of london at least is from CP. I'm only 3 miles away from the western tower and signals on internal antennas were always flaky at best. If the antenna isnt sat right by a window it wont work. Even then it drifts. To get round it I swapped to cabled connection in the end.

Thanks Sutton, seems cables are the only solution sadly!

There is one other thing to try. Some of the schools I've put Digital IPTV solutions into had the same problem with little or no signal, but the reason for this was the exact opposite, in that the signal coming from Crystal Palace was too strong. We ended up putting in attenuators to drop the signal by 80% and In one school pointed the antenna at the ground in the opposite direction  from the tower. Both solutions worked and we got perfect signals. Not sure if it will be the same for domestic antennas but worth a go. I didnt get chance to check as I swapped to cable  before I knew this was an Issue in some areas. It was Brockley btw where this was an issue so not so far from you.
