Title: Cheap Desktop
Post by: Nomoreheroes on Thursday, September 26, 2013, 08:38:23
Thinking of getting a cheap desktop for the 'outlaws'. They only surf, email & skype. Their current desktop has XP. They want lightning fast speed (on their emails and web browsing) and I want to stop them downloading lots of crap that I have to sort out every 5 mins!

Any recommendations for a cheap desktop for this limited use?

Yep.

Zoostorm £149 without an OS.

Add to that Windows 7 at £74

A usable cheap desktop for £223 with free delivery.

Wifey thought that was a bit too cheap, so I'm looking again. Any more recommendations?

Budget: £300-450ish

Buy it anyway, tell her you found a more expensive alternative, pocket the difference.

It's the in laws. They don't count.

It took me years to work out why they were called the in laws. I have a quiet satisfaction about working it out.  Who said sad?

Comes with a core i5 processor, plenty of Ram, enough HDD for their needs and Windows 8 64 bit pre installed for a little over £400.

I'm on the lookout for a new desktop too as my 8 year old one is way too slow now.

Obviously I want it as cheap as possible and i'm not one for it being all singing and dancing, just want an efficient pc.
I want it to be able to surf the net, the usual document printing etc, and be able to burn dvd's. Would want one with an operating system already installed.

I've seen a few refurbs on E-bay going from around £69.99 but am unsure if they're any good?

Any advice welcome

I've used both of these companies below, Arriba. I can't recommend them for customer service issues as everything's been fine and I've had no problems that needed resolving.

Both have some real monsters at decent prices.

Cheers bazza. The bargain hardware ones are some of those I've been looking at. I'll look on more detail tomorrow
