Title: City in meltdown
Post by: singingiiiffy on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, 19:52:20
Topcat in disguise...

Iv missed playing city it's been far too long. Losing again tonight and their forum is an absolute joy. If they don't get a result tonight and we win Saturday I reckon it's goodbye for SOD which will make it even sweeter. When city fans put pressure on a manager it almost always results in a quick sacking. Since they forced Gary Johnson out it just keeps on going.

Similar in many ways at the start of the season, both had big squad revamps and their average team age is similar to ours in the 22/23s. What a pleasure that ours is turning out decent with barely a penny spent (bar luongo). Not just on the pitch either, new ticketing rolled out this season and still problems at every home match with stewards waving people in. Main problems being printing tickets at home and scanners not working.

Here is to the boy Jed,  :pint: not many of us thought it would be this way round and everything that is going wrong for them is going right for us.

COYR run run run run city

Considering, this is Shitty (1982) Ltd, it'll be their worst start...ever !!

SOD tonight blaming the city fans for the hoofball on show. Trying to play football out the back and fans getting impatient.

"He stands there with his arms crossed looking into space. He never really points and shouts to the players on the pitch."

Even a relegation thread!

Don't really get the Flint hatred. It's not like he'd been here a decade and was Swindon through and through.

They're a bigger club and he's probably on more money. If a competitor in my industry offered me more money I'd probably go.

And that header at Brentford was one of the great Town moments. He deserves some kudos for that alone.

City are only 4 points behind us. Bit early to celebrate their demise (or our superiority) me thinks.

Oh, and they aren't really that much bigger than we are. They just have a chairman that is willing to lose 10M a season chasing the dream.

Don't really get the Flint hatred.

I'm not sure I've spotted any hatred.  Most of the comment has been enjoying Bristol's early season failure to set the division alight and Flint's part in that.  And the fact that they parted with £300k for his services, which is more than most on here would have valued him at.  But hatred?  Hardly.

That will come if he gets that 93rd minute header.   ;)

Based on how hot headed he was Clarke and Scunthorpe last season I reckon that after the crowd winds him up he is a good bet for a red card.

There's not so much hatred as people looking forward to giving him some stick.

Compare a normal working environment to football is never going to work really. When did you last have over 7k people paying money to watch you work? Regardless, if you did leave for a competitor I doubt your boss would be welcoming you back like a long lost brother.

I have no doubt he's on more money and don't particularly blame him for his personal reasons for going. However as a Swindon fan, he's left us for a rival in the same league when under contract. I'm sure even Flint realises how football works. I very much doubt he's expecting a standing ovation.

Agree about the Brentford goal mind.

Title: Re: City in meltdown
Post by: Batch on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, 08:50:05
They are. Let's be sensible.

I don't class an average attendance of 5K more as massively bigger. If we got to the championship and maintained it for a few seasons, or if City get stuck in league 1 for a few seasons I'd expect that difference to be 2 or 3K tops.

They certainly haven't made the jump in size that say Reading have. If they get a new stadium maybe that will change but I stand by my statement they are not massively bigger.

But it doesn't really matter. As long as we dick them.

That 93rd minute header though Ardiles will be in the wrong end for flint.. Hope he brings dirty kit, as we will do him a favour by taking him to the cleaners ;)

I find it a little bit unnerving that they haven't won, as we're normally crap against teams on that sort of form.

They've got a good squad and a good manager so them picking up at some point is inevitable and I get this horrible feeling it will start against us. Although I do think if we play like we did against Wolves, with their frailties at the back, we should pick up 3 points.

The crowd need to get on Flints back from the off, we all know hot headed he gets. Also the fact we have three technically superb players pulling the strings will work against Flint, as he is only really ever fully useful in the air. I would not be surprised if he gets sent off.... But then having said that, I wouldnt be surprised if he scored either!

Flint was always going to get stick once he handed in a transfer request...it becomes open season on him.

As for the 82's, if you look at the head to head we've won 13, they've won 14 and 10 draws...a one game edge to them I'd like to put right on Saturday, but hardly indicative of a massive difference.

Wouldn't say that I 'hate' him. It's more amusing that we got as much as we did for him.

He deserves kudos for one decent moment?! Yes, at the time, it was good, but as soon as we lost on penalties that moment was irrelevant.

Being a twat whose gobbyness saw him sparked out by a former youth team player adds a bit to it.

Thats the same for me, I don't hate him but I think he has made a few monumental errors of judgement on and off the football pitch.

Didn't like how he left us but thats water under the bridge, but he will get a lot of stick on Saturday, but from me it will be based purely upon his lack of ability and mobility on the pitch.

Cant help but think their piss poor start has had an effect on ticket sales

Quote
Tickets for Saturday’s trip to Swindon Town remain on general sale – with more than 2,200 sold to date.

The County Ground match is all-ticket for away supporters, who have until 3pm on Friday (September 20th) to secure a ticket. None will be available on the day of the game.

At present it will be City’s biggest away following since the trip to West Brom in November 2009.

Am guessing they would have had 3000

Ha see, this thread (on booing) shows that all clubs fans have the same arguments, and that we have no more 'mong fans' than anyone else (or both us and C*ty have a high count)

http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/157501-booing-a-disgrace/

In fairness they have Flint sussed. I think we need to get the 'hoof' chants going and try to pressure him into passing, as lets be honest his passing makes Ifil look like Beckenbauer

Quote from: slaveTrader
To me this guy looks like a classic ball winning centre half in the Jamie McCoombe style that we have been crying out for for a couple of seasons. He looks well suited to the physical rough and tumble of League 1 and will win most aerial battles against big bruising centre forwards. He'll get up for set pieces and score a few as well. I think he may even be a future captain in the making.

What he isn't is a ball carrying Rio Ferdinand type, bringing the ball out of defence, linking up with the midfield, playing one-two's and setting up an attack. When asked to do that he looks like his boot laces are tied together.

If it was then we all know that the gates announced were always understated in that era as we raked off some cash from the turnstiles and used it to stuff the brown envelopes for the cash payments to players.

Neat as it understated our income for tax purposes, reduced the rent payment to the council which was based on gate numbers, and avoided NI on the payments to the players.

I've never said it didn't happen. I just find it amusing that every now and again arriba tries to exude the hard man persona by latching on to a story about a guy he's never met, sparking another guy he's never met, all because of some spurious affiliation to the youth team.

Must have been more than 984, as Coventry had around 1,100 last season without having the bank open. And thats with the seats between the fans having been removed.

Yeah Coventry brought 1,059 fans last season, not sure where you got the figure mwooly but I always thought the allocation was closer to 1,200 in the arkells.

Shitty having a very bad year financially again.....

£12.9mill loss the last financial year and Lansdown effectively writing off £35mill of the debt.

Totally unsustainable losses at the level they are now playing at.

Annual accounts reveal loss of £12.9m in the last financial year.
At the Annual Supporters Meeting in December 2012 the Board said it would approach majority shareholder Steve Lansdown to remove a substantial part of the loan debts from its balance sheet.

Bristol City Holdings Limited can now announce this negotiation was successfully concluded during the last financial year, with £35m of debt removed from the balance sheet. Any remaining debt is interest-free, with no fixed repayment date, and any new funds required by the Football Club will be introduced as equity rather than further debt.

The news comes as the company’s accounts are published, showing a loss of £12.9m for the year ending May 31st 2013 compared with a loss of £14.4m for the previous financial year. Turnover dropped from £11.8m to £9.9m, but staff costs also fell from £18.6m to £16.8m. There was significant investment in the Academy throughout the year resulting in the achievement of Category 2 status, underlining the club’s strategy to grow talent for the future.

Bristol City chief executive Doug Harman said: “We have made it clear that financial prudence and control is one of our five strategic pillars. Actions speak louder than words and after completing this transaction the football club has cut its total debts by nearly 65 per cent and what remains is at no ongoing cost to the club.

“The club continues to make significant progress in reducing its annual losses and reshaping the way in which it does business, while seeking to ensure it remains competitive on the pitch. This is a difficult balancing act, but is crucial to the long term sustainability of the club.

“Relegation from the Championship, coupled with long-term player contracts meant the club could not achieve its target of £10m losses; however EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) did drop to £10.9m.

“Losses have fallen substantially in the first half of the current financial year, despite relegation to League One, and we are seeking to maintain this progress to year end.”

Writing in the Chairman's statement to accompany the 2013 Accounts, Keith Dawe says: “I said at the Annual Meeting in December (2012) that we face many challenges in the months ahead and that has proved to be the case. The debt for equity switch we talked about has taken place during this year and the balance sheet is much stronger for it.
“Much work has taken place to reduce long term costs during the year, although this has proved difficult with players on fixed term contracts. Income was affected by the team’s on-pitch performances and ultimate relegation from the Championship to League One.”

He adds: “It has been well publicised that our strategy for the club is based around five pillars of player recruitment; player development via our Academy; vastly improved facilities; our work in the community; all underpinned by financial prudence and control. Enhanced stadium facilities – either at Ashton Vale or a redeveloped Ashton Gate – are key to the club’s ability to drive significantly higher commercial revenue streams."

Some clubs do it. I know Newcastle did. I'm pretty sure we did when we went to L2 hence the exodus. I read yesterday that if Man U dont qualify for the champs league all players wages automatically reduce by 25%. Most dont though ala Bolton, Birmingham etc.

I'm not sure how you judge.
Lansdown has generated a greater value over a longer period of time, and then chosen to spend a chunk on City. I don't see how that makes him a tosser.
