Title: Transfer Embargo?
Post by: SuggWillSugg MBE on Saturday, October 6, 2012, 16:18:22
Discuss.

Imposed by the board or the FA?

I really can't understand PDC sometimes..

Think it as a result of the tribunals of TAH and Collin.

Under it until paid but am willing to be corrected.

Think PDC may not be the ideal spokesman on this issue.

Sounds like the board have said you have just spent £330k on Troy and Collins so no more for now

Title: Re: Transfer Embargo?
Post by: Nemo on Saturday, October 6, 2012, 16:26:10
But how can PDC be expected to cope with just the 382 players we have on the books?

Title: Re: Transfer Embargo?

We normally have a bench that would start for most teams in league 1, I like Paolo, but bloody hell, no manager in our recent history has had the backing that he has had

Can't see why the board would impose an 'embargo' out of the blue.

Ah, transfer fees count towards wage cap for a certain % somehow? Tribunal figures take us over, they have been paid. So people need to go out before they can come in.

Yep Collins & Troys transfer fee took us over wage cap which is my FA imposed embargo.  Looks like we will have to sell or loan out

Title: Re: Transfer Embargo?

Well this could be interesting.  PDC won't be able to bring players in unless we ship some out.  I wonder if this could see some departures?

Personally I think we've got an adequate squad and PDC has brought the majority in.  He hasn't really got any grounds for complaint.

If we're over wage cap, why not send Bostock back to Spurs seeing as PDC seemingly only wants to use him as bench decoration?

By reaching your wage cap you are not working within your means. We have to work to a budget and anything other than that does not sit well with me.

Title: Re: Transfer Embargo?
Post by: Langers on Saturday, October 6, 2012, 16:40:54
Whenever we play a game, it seems something always seems to come out afterwards. So, does this mean the board didn't expect to have to pay as much for JC and TAH as otherwise you would like to think they would have budgeted for the tribunal.

Never dull at Swindon Town, is it?

Title: Re: Transfer Embargo?
Post by: Batch on Saturday, October 6, 2012, 16:42:01
Club thought we needed to pay Collins and Troy fees over 24 months, but we had to pay immediately. Hence budget blown.

I can well understand concerns about the club's finances, but this is hardly something that comes as a huge surprise.

I guess it depends if/how much we're contributing to his wages.

At least it gives the over re-active mongs something to moan about tonight, get in!

Indeed, but I don't think it's unreasonable to assume we're paying some of his and Rooney's wages, and probably most of Ward's.

Seriously...

@The_Swine_Don: Fully supportive of the transfer embargo. Heard the #STFC business plan currently requires us to get 11,000 every home game to break even.

Hopefully the League Cup game will help?

Not sure it will. My understanding is that a projected turnover is agreed at the start of the season and then reviewed in January with the caps being a percentage of the figure agreed. Not aware of there being any re-negotiation inbetween.

Besides, the League Cup isn't worth that much. We just get 50% of the gate receipts for each game after expenses have been deducted.

A visit to Old Trafford in the quarter finals might be different.

With the greatest of respect to the board, how can you predict we would get to R4 of the cup as a minimum?

Surely it would make sense to budget for first round cup exits away from home, then anything over and above is a bonus. At least if you privately state to PDC we have to finish x in league and reach round 2 of each cup, then there is a target to work to.

The budget will change as the year goes on. I think he meant that the recent wages percentage calculation included the Villa game which would make sense as we can spend more as we receive more.

It's no problem really, the Villa result will determine our entire survival.  ;D

Because then the 65% you have to work with is lower and you reach your wage cap sooner.

It's not the FL fault that we've sailed too close to the wind.

Title: Re: Transfer Embargo?
Post by: Benzel on Saturday, October 6, 2012, 20:12:54
So basically, like most clubs we've pushed our budget right to the limits and the only reason this has happened is because the board didn't forsee the FL asking for all the money up front for the tribunal fees and this is quite an easy situation to resolve.... right?

I think that this will be the latest forecast for this season, they wouldn't be forecasting from the start that they would be in the 4th round.

It looks like they have to reforecast every month or two as they actually brought this to the FA's attention from what JW said.  Also it states in the link below that the forecast will be updated through out the season.

http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/FLExplainedDetail/0,,10794~2748246,00.html

It also states that it is only player wages that count towards the 65%, so why would the transfer fees for the players be included in the 65%?

It would appear that tranny fees paid accrue the same towards the % of your budget alongside wages.

I can perhaps understand now why Wray was getting so exercised about the Villa game not being on Sky.
Possibly the additional income that brought in would have made the latest forecast figures tip us on the right side of the 65% line rather than just outside.

It's an absolute joke, time and time again we are victimised by the FA and we all lie down and take it.  It's high time we started speaking up against a corrupt body who punishes a club twice, first by over-charging us for Collins and Troy, and then by deliberately bumping us over the wage threshold and whacking a transfer embargo on us.  Our squad is tiny for this level, and Paolo is managing on bare bones as it is, without further obstacles being placed in our way.

The whole league is against us, we are too big for this league, let's begin a seige mentality.
