With no Alan Mac today I can see Ward and Troy using a lot of hoof ball, should just about edge it, 2-0 lead, they will score in the 80th minute and we will just about hang on, kicking fuck out of every ball that comes near us!

With Archie and Flint/Ward at the back, I should think it's more hoof ball from the back. 1-0 to Bury.

Hopefully Williams and Rooney up front today.

I hope Troy has been taught this week to pass to midfield and not over it.

2-0 Swindon.  On paper this should be easy but paper means fuck all.  With our recent performances and an unsettled side this could either be very easy or very hard.

Foderingham, Thompson, Flint, Ward, McEveley, Ritchie, Miller, Ferry, Bessone, Collins, Williams

Subs: Bedwell, Archivald-Henville, Navarro, Devera, Benson, Rooney, Bostock

Bessone on the wing?

Bessone starts ahead of De Vita, Bostock et al on the wing. Never know, he may surprise us. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with that line up.

It's not as thought it's an alien position for him either... He's left footed & not exactly the most defensive player in the world, could work well.

Even at 20% (not that I know the exact % we agreed) I think we're going to make the same as what we originally sold him for at least. With that record he'll be in the prem come February.

I'm starting to think the money those Poole fans had on him playing for England one day, at obscene odds, is looking a bit handsome.

Was supposedly set to sign for us last summer but Gillingham (or Gillingscum or Pikies if you prefer) nipped in to sign him at the last minute. He then did his ACL in his first pre-season appearance. Is only just coming back from that and is on loan at Darford at the moment)

When you bear in mind that, for the same money, fans of some other League One clubs (e.g. Bournemouth) get video of their full matches a couple of days afterwards, it's an even worse service.

Still not got a reply to my email about why our coverage is so paltry in comparison.

Sounds as if the board may have said no to him actually - rather than the FA...

Does he not realise how good he has had it? He is skating on incredibly thin ice here. He's just called himself a "God" and saying unless the purse strings are released he is off in December.

Sometimes I love the man, at others I think he's a bit a nob. Today is the latter. He'd be a walking disaster at a club with a chairman without the patience (and generosity) Wray and our board have.

In all honesty though, he's brought in enough players to have adequate cover.  Now he seems to be saying if the embargo isn't lifted and he can't bring in more players it will be difficult to get promotion!

PDC:
- 3 points is the maximum you can get in a game
- Can travel back with a big smile
- It wasn't a joy to watch this game
- We came from a 4 game win streak which sapped energy
- Poor game Tuesday and scrappy game today. But we got 3 points
- If club has desire to go up this year then we need other players. But we can't get any yet because of embargo
- Difficult with 2 or 3 injuries.
- PDC is working 24 hours per day still. Hopes that club and chairman is working to same plan as when he signed.
- Williams has a calf injury. Benson can only play one game at a time at this level
- If we want to carry on using 'hope' as a strategy then PDC will carry on loyally to Jeremy Wray who gave him a chance, but hope is not the strategy that PDC wants to use.
- PDC plan from 16 months ago has changed a little bit.
- Roberts, McCormack, Williams all injured. 30% of main players.
- Ranted about embargo and players having to go before he can get more.
- Talked about embargo being because of timing of tribunal decision. Swindon haven't paid the money yet and so cant buy anyone else.
- PDC sounded v angry. Sounded as if the 'embargo' was by the board not wanting to put more money in yet.
- If board let PDC work like last year then great. PDC is waiting for an answer as to whether they will. He is looking at one player - a top level professional.
- PDC has only found out about embargo in last few days
- PDC doesnt know when he'll be told.
- Its not the end of the world. We are 4th in L1 having come up from L2. We have lots of passion at the County Ground. But, we have to know whether there is still the intention to push for the Championship. He has to know so that he can plan properly, work 24/7 to get to the championship or just carry on and do the best with what he's got.

Whether they are good enough or not, we have two squads worth of players that could play in the first team. Can't remember such investment in our squad. PDC is lucky.

That said, most managers want more. PDC just chooses to put the pressure on via the radio. Not sure its fair on Wray, but I think most fans are understanding there isn't a money tree in his back garden.

The post match interviews and announcement of the line-up is as dramatic (or in Tuesday's case, more dramatic) than the game itself nowadays! 3 or 4 changes per match (not enough options Paolo?), potential national news....

Embargo is not because of not paying the tribunal fee, its because of the FA rules w/r/t wage cap and transfer fees. The timing of the tribunal did not help the club.

PDC said something about another player that he wanted to get in to cover injuries. He commented on the fact that it wasn't a lot of money and the club are getting big gates both home and away that would cover the cost (from context)

What worries me is the board don't know how to say No to Di Canio. We have more than enough quality on our books to do well in this league. This win or bust scenario with a loose cannon running the show is more than making me a bit nervous about my club.

Radio are trying to get clarification from Wray. Hopefully he'll be on soon.

Title: Re: Bury V Swindon Town official match day thread
Post by: Nomoreheroes on Saturday, October 6, 2012, 16:54:46
Wray:
- Tribunal finding/ Up front payment takes us over wage cap.
- Board must address what they need to do
- Several clubs under embargo.
- Situation introduced so clubs can only spend certain amount of money
- 65% of money on salary & transfer fees
- Normal transfers then 50% of Collins and Archie Henners would have been deferred for a year. Tribunal hasnt done that.
- There are several ways to address this. During the transfer window they could sell to buy.
- Winning against Villa would help and bring in more money
- If more money comes into the club then the embargo will lift
- Loaning players out may help
- STFC were the ones that highlighted t his not the league. Club seems to be running very openly
- Its not Wrays understanding that PDC will leave if no more money is available
- Wray says that what PDC is saying is that its not easy to get promotion to the championship. This is made harder if players are injured.
- Loan players who are not playing could be sent back to free up cash to get others. But this is not necessarily something that the club will want to do.
- Wray cautions that PDC isnt in a strop, he's just being honest with the fans.

So, bottom line is - Panic over I guess?

Title: Re: Bury V Swindon Town official match day thread

Listening to Jeremy Wray a moment ago I am a lot less concerned than I was listening to Paolo, but bless him, he does get excitable and with English being his 2nd language it is a recipe for "interesting" interviews.

I had assumed that tribunal fees had spread payments like normal transfers, so hearing that is not the case I am not surprised we have hit the 65% limit.

For about 75 mins we were clearly the better team and seemed under little threat.  We should really have made it count with further goals but real chances were few and far between.  One top class save from their keeper denied a goal that most of us were already celebrating.  last 15 mins I was keeping one eye on the clock counting down as we were a bit backs to the wall.  At the end of the day Bury's performance was high on effort but low on quality so a deserved win and we could go home happy.
Can't say there were any stand-out performances today.  Thought McEveley was solid at the back, Flint was winning everything, Ritchie was much better than on Tuesday without hitting highs, am getting more impressed with Rooney and Ferry put in a good shift.  Poor Bessone looked even more out of place at left wing than at right back and consequently we didn't really pose much threat down that flank.
Home to see the furore over the transfer embargo - hopefully just another blip for PdC to rant about for a day or two and all will be forgotten in good time.

Paolo out, Ronnie Moore in
Joking aside, with the budget Di Danio has had I think he would have got similar results.

But I think that the point is that PDC has got funds because he has drawn publicity to the club. That drawing of publicity has put bums on seats and Swindon constantly on Sky. I suspect at least 2 of the live matches on TV have been due to the DiCanio factor.

Has our income increased by much with him as boss? Dirt cheap season tickets which most fans hold and loads of money splashed on players makes me wonder. Gates aint gone through the roof.
Granted he is a big draw for the media and i'm not anti Di Canio at all but he does come with a price. He's had a huge budget from the outset.

Great to get the win, not much else to say on the performance apart from the fact I felt we defended well when we had to. They didn't offer a lot and I think we were good value for the win. Ward had his best game for us today IMO and marshalled the back line well.

Hope the embargo stuff gets sorted!

There was a lot of interest in off the pitch stuff (marketing, sponsorship etc) when Paolo was appointed. Don't know how much revenue that turned in to though, definitely an improvement though - companies want to be associated with high profile managers such as Paolo.

I suppose Paolo has brought a little bit extra in but I am guessing he is the highest paid manager in league 1 by some way and has also needed the club to make a large investment in his coaching staff as well as the playing budget.

Also Saturday proved to me PDC is some way off being poached by a champ/prem club.  I hope Wray give him a real slap. It's not his job to announce the club are under an embargo and shows he does think he thinks at least in his own mind is far bigger than the club.

I haven't been to a game yet this season because of work commitments, and haven't even heard much on the radio.

I am curious to know if the fans are still doing the "Paolo di Canio" chant, or are the fans tiring of him?

No one really knows. All we know is we have a fairly competitive budget. This is based purely on the players we've signed since Paolo's been here. Even so it's still on 66.5% of our turnover and was presumably less than the magic 65% last year. Some people are making out that it's like the biggest budget in the club's history. Maybe it is but with these new(ish) rules in place i'd suspect we've overspent by far far more in the past.

An enjoyable trip to Bury capped off with a 0-1 win.

Chicken jalfrezi with popadom and nan plus a pint X 2 = £11.30. That was lunch sorted.

A walk round Bury market which resulted in a purchase of a bag of oven bottom baps (big bread rolls) which will be the wrapper on a heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeuge bacon bap to go with a plate of chips for me tea tonight along with a couple of Hot Pot pies which SWMBO and I had for dinner last night plus my first taste of black pudding- acceptable fayre.

On to the ground. Gigg Lane is a tidy little ground. Good sight lines from behind the goal if you avoid the stanchions.

Wes looks a little self conscious when getting young fan adoration. The look on his face when he turned round during the warm up to wave at the little lad down the front shouting WES!!!! Made oi larf.

From where I was sitting , the shot that resulted in the goal had Matt Ritchie written all over it and, until I saw Collins celebrating, I thought it was Matt that sored. This might account for the vidiprinter/ Sky cock up.
The rest of the game was OK. Some cracking challenges going in and Flint was on good form, which was a relief to see after his time out.

The noise from our end was pretty much the only noise during the whole of the game. Bury fans were woeful in their support. The 'Hard Men' in the corner near us were a bit laughable too, although I did hear that a mob of them jumped a young Swindon kiddie prior to the game. I don't know if anyone can back this up?

Ginger Steward got a bit of banter her way as did the Old Bill, all of which seemed to be taken in good spirit.

Overall, 3 points and good scran. Not to be sneezed at.

Only just got back from this. Missed my train yesterday due to a ridiculous hangover from the Saturday night in Manchester so had to stop off in Swindon last night as i missed the last train down to Plymouth.

The game itself was ok made all the better by the 1-0 scoreline! Away support was decent although Bury were a lot quieter than the CG is!!

Good result, roll on Coventry

we don't need to know figures to know it's alot. I don't see this as a problem as long as we keep the same board and investors.

To be fair though the budget needs to be decent if the plan is to challenge for promotion to the championship.

I'm a bit concerned though that PDC feels the need to bring in more players due to Williams, Roberts (who I thought was said to be taking a fitness test before game so cant be far off) 7 McCormack we have decent enough cover at centre half and we have strikers that are probably itching to prove their point and get a full game, ok so we have no proper cover for Roberts but what about switching Ritchie to the left or De Vita started the season well how about he get's another chance.

If PDC actually worked with the players he had he may be able to improve them instead of jumping into the loan market everytime something does not go right
