Title: Lightning Strike. Post by: leefer on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, 22:50:34 Driving back into Swindon this afternoon i was nearly lifted off my seat by a clap of thunder..........never heard it as loud as this clap.
I didn't see any lightning but i understand an 11 year old Dorcan schoolboy was hit by lightning this afternoon and is critical in hospital......poor lad had a cardiac arrest......he is stable so lets hope for the best. That was one almighty bang.............anyone else hear it this afternoon? Title: Re: Lightning Strike. Post by: Notts red on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, 22:56:21 Two flashes of lightening and thunder to follow around 2.30pm over the Corsham area,I was just setting off for the school pick up with our dog who was having none of it and hid in the Kitchen. Hope the Young lad makes a full recovery, must of been horrendous.
Title: Re: Lightning Strike. Post by: thedarkprince on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, 23:00:17 Some people hate thunder and lightning but I love it! Nothing better than watching a thunder storm roll by.
Heard something on the radio about a kid getting hit but didn't realise it was from Swindon. Hope he makes a full recovery and gets some super powers. Title: Re: Lightning Strike. Post by: Batch on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, 23:01:51 Poor young lad. Did nothing but stand in the wrong place at the wrong time. Not like he was sheltering under a tree or anything.
Hope he recovers. Title: Re: Lightning Strike. Post by: bullethead on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, 23:15:14 My daughter was just walking out of the school gates at the time so was only about 30 yards away, it terrified her and she ran full tilt to the nearest shop.
Poor lad was so unlucky, a real one in a million chance. Fingers crossed he recovers well. Title: Re: Lightning Strike. Post by: Peter Venkman on Thursday, September 27, 2012, 08:57:17 Hope the littlun is alright thats an awful experience for him and the people at the school.
I was nearly struck by lightning while driving back from Cirencester to Swindon when it struck a lampost (still damaged after 12 years and nor fixed yet!) I was in my car so was fairly safe due to the Faraday cage principle but it still scared the fuck out of me. I was probably 10 yards away from the lampost when it was struck and until then did not realise that the lightning goes up in a small fork before it comes back down with a massive fork. Seeing the build up charge in front of my eyes accross a massive puddle and then go up the lampost before instantly coming back down again with the loudest bang I have ever heard and the smell of the electric and burning was intense as well as the loosening of my bum valve :D . Proper scarey indeed. Title: Re: Lightning Strike. Post by: THE FLASH on Thursday, September 27, 2012, 10:03:49 Hope the kiddy recovers....I can't imagine what his parents are going through.
Title: Re: Lightning Strike. Post by: Notts red on Thursday, September 27, 2012, 11:25:09 The Lad has now been moved to Frenchay hospital, for specialist treatment I guess so he is in the right hands.
Title: Re: Lightning Strike. Post by: THE FLASH on Sunday, September 30, 2012, 10:48:26 Sounds as if he's on the mend...slowly.
Title: Re: Lightning Strike. Post by: Batch on Sunday, September 30, 2012, 11:58:51 Sounds as if he's on the mend...slowly. Brilliant news. I find it remarkable that he is on the mend at all. Well done to the medically trained staff, off duty fire fighter and paramedics. Title: Re: Lightning Strike. Post by: Dozno9 on Friday, November 2, 2012, 14:13:56 He's back home.
I don't know if he reads this or any of his family but I wish him the very best over the coming months. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-20171947 Title: Re: Lightning Strike. Post by: pauld on Friday, November 2, 2012, 14:20:02 He's back home. Ditto. Title: Re: Lightning Strike. Post by: ibelieveinmrreeves on Friday, November 2, 2012, 15:55:10 Huh, wheres the arsenal shirt? BBC article, presumably his sister. Title: Re: Lightning Strike. Post by: ronnie21 on Friday, November 2, 2012, 17:19:38 God, just reading about it, he was lucky! Apparently all his clothes were burnt and even put holes in his shoes. Poor little sod is not allowed in bright sunlight for two years - shouldn't be a problem in this country then!!
Title: Re: Lightning Strike. Post by: pauld on Friday, November 2, 2012, 17:42:05 Poor little sod is not allowed in bright sunlight for two years Blimey! Why's that then?Title: Re: Lightning Strike. Post by: jayohaitchenn on Monday, November 5, 2012, 18:42:52 Presumably because his skin was melted off. New skin will burn much quicker.
