Title: Swindon Town Vs Bournemouth Official Matchday Thread
Post by: SuggWillSugg MBE on Saturday, September 22, 2012, 00:43:23
As you may have seen from my twitter, I fucking hate freshers.

I don't think I was that much of a cunt a year ago, if I was then I deserve to be killed in a mass execution.

Either way freshers don't have any impact on our result tomorrow which I think we'll win.

Ba k to fortress county ground.

2-0 Swindon. Ferry and Williams to score.
Done.

COYR.

I'm going for a controversial 0-0....despite the array of attacking talent on display, it'll be "just one of those games"

I think it's possible that we've had more 0-0's v Boscombe than any other club...DV will know.

The last one being a totally forgetable Boxing Day match...a few years back, when I made a manic journey from the east of England, to arrive at the CG for 2:58pm, to discover the TE was shut. Cunts. Still don't know why.

Fuck me looked this one up and it was 11 years ago...tempus fugit

Well, what a half. Ritchie's goal was something else, took the ball, turned and hit a rocket from 25 yards into the top far corner. Williams was a cracking diving header from a cross on the left but I think Collins was there also if he missed it.

Player of the half for me is Thompson, winning every tackle and going forward is overlapping and looking strong. Having seen Ward at Oxford I can tell you he's a different player today and playing it simple.

Bournemouth are no slouches and look good up front but they can't cope with our attacking.

8/10

Flint, Rooney and Bostock wandering along the back of the Arkells wondering where to sit for the second half?

Ward looked steady first half.  Interestingly it was him who seemed to be directing the defence and sorting out positioning rather than McCormack.

Thompson did play very very well, but Bourenmouth were not playing with wingers. Encouraging signs though.

First time i've seen Roberts and Ward. Both looked very good. In general, bar a scrappy 10 minutes before we scored the third we played pretty good I thought. Williams looked very lively, but tried to be a bit too clever in front of goal.

Although that performance should be praised, it should also be said that Bournemouth were fucking dreadfull. Absolutley dire.

Started off a bit unsure of how it was going to go. Though it was a bit soft in the middle it felt fresh and es pleasantly satisfying. An improvement on last season.

Enough about my chicken burger.

That was comfortable, good and despite a slightly lower standard at the start of the second half we were never in trouble.

My youngest first game today, not a bad start. My eldest first game was a 6 0 too

Pretty comfortable, bar them having decent chances either side of half time.

Should've had 2 pens, the first one blatant pull on Williams after Thompson puts a lovely ball across the 6 yard box, and less blatant for handball soon after.

We hit the woodwork twice, and it could've been 8, with very decent chances in the first couple of minutes. Roberts looked threatening on the left all game.

Loved PdC waving his foot when the TE asked Paolo for a wave !!!

Looking forward to Tuesday.

Outstanding performance from us, we made them look shit and knocked the stuffing out of them.

Everyone was on top of their game today, none more so than Nathan Thompson. An absolute rock  and he had Lewis Grabban in his pocket from the off, so much so that they switched him to the other side of the pitch.
Can see why Paolo took Collins off, he was quiet and also a little wasteful in possession. He worked hard though but some times that's not enough.
4 well taken goals, clean sheet, good performance, good night.

Quality performance and fantastic result...it could and should have been more than 4-0! It flattered them!

Williams ran his socks off, Ritchie was immense down the flank and I thought our defence looked more than comfortable at dealing with Tubbs and Grabban. Special mention to MOM Nathan Thompson, great to see a local lad not only get in the side but to play superbly as well!

Blip, what blip?...Onwards and upwards! We owed Bournemuff a stuffing and to see their manager stood up and not move for 20 minutes tells me I don't think he'll be there much longer if things don't change, especially with a certain Mr Redknapp waiting in the wings!

That really was a very good performance, all over the pitch. I'm not sure if Muff are shite but we certainly made them look it. The first goal was a goal of the season contender - Ritchie picked the guys posket, one touch and boom. The second was a greart cross from Roberts. The third one their keeper should be embarassed about. The fourth was great team work but Muff had given up after the 3rd.
Thompson was deservedly MOM and its good to see a player in a red shirt fly in with the tackles - particularly when he times then so well.
When Roberts and Ritchie really get flying its going to be happy days.
A word also for Ward today. At Scumland he was absolte dogshit. At Pompey he looked better but still a bit rusty. He played really well today.
I also Macca was back to his best as he has looked pretty ordinary so far. 3 of his long passes out to the wing were top drawer.
The main thing though was we looked like a team again.

Yeah I saw this too. By the looks of it he gave the fitness coach a rollicking for not noticing it, of which the fitness coach passed it on. The players warming up certainly had a lot more urgency about them afterwards.

Thought the game was great today and hats off to Nathan Thompson I thought he had a stormer, especially as they targeted that side for a while until the realised that the kid was quite useful, soapy tit wank

Still no sign of flint though, that's my only concern as a quite rate him. Hope he's not on his way out. Also no room for Luke Rooney either.

I wouldn't say Muff were a bad side for the first 25 minutes. Lets not forget Fodds back to his best and that amazing save. Games turn on those situations.
After that Swindon showed their class.

Pleased for your Thompson....great game and Roberts gives us that extra balance which has been missing on the left. Good game for Ward and Navaro. Whilst people will talk about Williams and Ritchie I thought Tommy Miller mastered the middle of the park this afternnoon. Nothing special but done the right things.

Charlie Austin is on fire. Will be interesting to see if he will come back to haunt us tuesday!

He scored 3 last Saturday and 2 today, meaning his Burnley and career scoring ratio is now 0.5 (a goal every other game). It's actually a lot more impressive than that if you take in to account the actual minutes he's played, reckon he's been a sub or subbed in a quarter of his games.

Really chuffed after today's performance, some great individual performances (Thompson, Williams, Ritchie, Miller), some improved efforts (McCormack, JayMac, Ward, Foderingham) but best of all a decent team effort.

Enjoyed telling Bournemouth they would never sign Matt Ritchie, and he and Roberts look like doing what most of us have predicted. Williams first touch is sublime at times, he buys himself an extra yard and has pace to burn.

So encouraging for Tuesday night, wonder who will have the job of looking after Charlie?

Just got back, 12 hour round trip but what a cracker.  Read some of the thread & most points have been covered.  I don't think Bournemouth are that bad, but that we were as good today as I've seen us under PDC.  Thought the back 4 were solid, Wes made an outstanding save just before HT which could have made things interesting.  Macca was class today (back to his best) & it was great to see him play well with Ward, who was equally solid.  Young Thomson was exceptional! In my opinion his inclusion has given Richie more attacking freedom & he's looking back at his best.  Miller was very good today & the front 2 chased everything.

Great goals, great performance, a bit of tippy tappy & loads of passion, best game I've seen under PDC!

I'm wondering if Flint and De Vita were the 'disruptive influences'. I can't understand why De Vita's not even on the bench. Rooney's out of form and perhaps Bostock isn't fit.

As you say, someone has to miss out with the size of our squad.

Reading through the posts, some have mentioned squad members missing from the match day squad. Here's my take on it..

In regards team selection for the matchday squad, PDC has obviously made the team fight not just for the starting 11 but for the 18. I think this mentality goes astray at most clubs with players thinking "I won't start so I'll be on the bench". PDC though has made our lot think "I won't be starting so I'd better make sure I make the bench" This way you have 18 tuned in players for match day and not 11. It breeds confidence throughout.

We're seeing at the moment that once you're not picked for the bench (Flint, Rooney to name a couple), it's hard to get back on it and even more difficult to break through to the starting XI. This mentality increases competition for places, makes each and every player train even harder than the previous session and the results (I hope after yesterday's performance) will continue in this positive manner.

Roll on Burnley and hope PDC does give some of the "outsiders" a chance to see what they've got on Tuesday night.

PDC doesn't often get appreciative posts (I wonder why!) but here goes from the AFC Bournemouth Forum

I gave up watching the football after about 75 mins yesterday and thought I'd watch Di Canio instead. Incredible. Whatever people's opinions are of him one thing you cannot deny is his charisma and passion. He was non stop yesterday, arm waving, gesticulating shouting, arguing with the 4th official, at some points he was 4 yards onto the pitch but he was so watchable I was envious of the Swindon fans having someone like that to sing about. At the end of the match he ' high fived' every single one of his players and then shook hands and said a few words to everyone of our players as they left the pitch. Groves was nowhere...saw very little of him during the game..leant against his dugout out of view and when the final whistle went he just turned tail and disappeared down the tunnel. Now i know that the supporters sang for his head and want him out but he could have acknowledged the away fans at the end. He acknowledged nothing. 750 fans the journey up there and i think they deserved some reaction from him after that performance. He's lost the dressing room and he's lost the fans. I wish we had a ' Di Canio ' .

Funnily PdC kicked Collins up the arse in the Stoke game...and he hasn't scored since !!!

PDC kicked him up the arse after he had scored his and our second.

So he has scored since.

They certainly don't pull any punches in the Bournemouth local paper today when assessing Groves' performance on Saturday.  Get a load of this.  I would imagine their Chairman will be delighted.

Cherries: This is what you should have said, Paul (http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/9944920.Cherries__This_is_what_you_should_have_said__Paul/)

And I wonder whether 'BBC Radio Solent's Andrew Hawes' managed to keep a straight face when conducting the interview with Groves?   ;D

This is the pick of the comments following the article, left by a very testy Bournemouth fan.  It's a great piece of writing.

I was one of the 752 who made the trip and have never seen such a spineless, passionless, inept performance from any Cherries side. Sure the team would have been a lot different if it wasn't for injuries, but the regular players were the most guilty.

Grabban was presented to us as a wide forward but to date I have yet to see him beat any player one to one. Addison gave a captain's performance, the captain of the Fat Ox pub team after a night on the razzle. At one point In a piece of sublime skill he turned with all the grace of a sherman tank and hoofed the ball back to Jalal so hard and wide it went for a corner.

Mcqouid then gave us a cameo on why he can't cut it in League 1, let alone the Championship. The rest of the team were engaged in a competition over who could pass the ball best to the opposition. Fogden won with a precision pass to Ritche who fired in their opener.

And the mastermind behind this debacle, step forward Paul Groves to receive your first class honours degree from the Jimmy Quinn School of mis-management. How jealous we were of the rampant enthuisiasm of Di Canio while Groves stood staring into space, no doubt pondering on where to plant his petunias during his forthcoming gardening leave. I left the ground just grateful I wasn't wearing the club's colours they made me so ashamed. Championship Mr Mitchell? Please, stop now, you really are making me laugh.

Just had a good chuckle reading that article...some saying their paper will be banned by that prick of a chairman they have!!! Talk about a power trip and he doesn't even own the place apparently!

What are the fans protesting about? The manager or him? Both? They're extreamly lucky to have the money being injected that they are presently, much like us.

Fans need to calm it down, they don't need those Russians fucking off and leaving them in the shit.

How much you want to bet JJ? A pint will do. Mitchell's appointment, he can't admit he was wrong. They have spent shed loads of the Russian's money(loan at 6%) and entrusted it to a bloke who once played for Grimsby

I dunno mate I know Mitchell is a bit belligerent but this has to be the final nail in the coffin, their run of form is attrocious with only 1 win in 11 games.

I have a feeling that David James will get the job as he was after a foot into management.

You know what JJ, that might not be a bad shout, at least he's played at the highest level. I'll cheerfully get you a pint anyway. I'll stick that on my work colleagues B'mth ST holders Facebook post about today. He came up with me last week, he was happy about Bar71 but not about the result

Apparently Eddie Mitchell has now come out in public and said he chose Groves over Glenn Hoddle who also applied for the managers job, all I can say is what a twat.

Have to meet up for a chat and a beer at some point soon Dave, been ages.

Bizarre

What kind of thought process results in the conclusion that to reveal such as thing is a good idea? He clearly needs an advisor, whom should advise him to shut the fuck up.

Anyone know of a football "advisor" who isn't doing much at the moment? Ideally one with proven PR skills and situation management.

I would call that a massive own goal, but then Mr Mitchell seems pretty good at shooting at his own goal and scoring.

Mitchell's an embarassment and doesn't appear entirely sober in that clip, much like last time he had a slanging match with fans. He looks like a dodgy car salesman with about 5 buttons on his shirt undone.

I would be worried right now if I was a Bournemouth fan. This Russian dude seems dodgy to say the least and his best mate Mitchell is a bit of a twat who doesn't really have much of a clue about football. How he can keep backing Groves I don't know. He's had plenty of cash to spend and bought in some good players but the results are not coming for them. There's nothing wrong with giving a manager time but to keep coming out with these comments just seems to make me think he knows he's fucked up appointing him and is trying his best to save his own face. If the results don't start coming for them then the Russian may well get bored and withdraw his interest. Now that would be worrying for them given the fact their crowds are quite small and the infrastructure is not there to maintain that kind of spending.

He keeps backing Groves as it was his appointment, sacking him would bring his judgement into question, trouble is he's never wrong

From what I can gather the "investment" is in the form of loans to be repaid at 6%

The best thing would be for the Russian to get shot of the Mitchell clan altogether. Apparently his son is Director of Football at the ripe old age of 23. It's all very dodgy, and tbh I do feel for the fans

Loans to be repaid at 6%. Bloody hell that's not going to end well for them considering they've already spent over a million of his money.

It's not his backing of an underperforming manager that is his failing - that's quite refreshing amidst the hire and fire culture of football. It's his naivity in publically remonstrating with fans on more than one occassion. He should accept that you can't keep everyone happy and that it is a figurehead's role to rise above that sort of behaviour, maintain some order and not stoke the flames - can you imagine Jeremy Wray or Andrew Fitton doing that? He has brought more focus and put more pressure on Groves than if he had stayed inside and allowed the protestors to drift away after a time.
