Title: Champions League Final ft. Daily Mail readers
Post by: thedarkprince on Saturday, May 19, 2012, 08:29:01
Would love Chelsea to win for two reasons: 1) John (Mr Chelsea) Terry would not have been involved and 2) it would deprive Spurs of CL footy... that said I hate Chelsea so Bayern winning wouldn't be the end of the world. Although... it would mean that über cunt Robben collected a winner's medal so I guess I'm indifferent.

Either way, not a bad match for Di Matteo to finish on.

I want Bayern to win, if for no other reason than I hated the way that they played against Barca.
Also, seeing Ashley Cole win would never be a good thing.

Tell me how they should of played against barca?

Exactly. As much as a dislike Chelsea, I think they deserve applauding for beating the one trick ponies with 10 men. What should they do? Stand back and let Barca stroke the ball and around while whooping at Messi's skill?

Tell me how they should of played against barca?

Didn't say they shouldn't have done it.
Just that I hated watching it - probably because I was starting from the viewpoint of wanting Barca to win th competition.
Wasn't expecting others to agree with me - just how I feel about it.

Can't see Chelsea winning with key players missing. Bayern's attacking threat will be too much for them with Robben, Ribery and co.

Why all the hate for Ashley Cole? Best England Left-back of his generation and up there if not the best in the world and has been for the best part of a decade, don't get the hate for him.

I've had a soft spot for Bayern since my days living in Germany as a kid (lived nowhere near Munich, if soft spots had glory hunting then this would be it - they were on telly a lot).

I think I want Chelsea to win though.

Also,

I think I want West Ham United to win.
I think I want Hibernian to win (I know there are Jambos on here but my Edinburgh family are green, so there).
I think I want Seattle Sounders to beat Vancouver Whitecaps

I enjoyed the Barca games a lot and was delighted Chelsea beat them.

I find that tippy tappy style of football that Barcelona play quite tedious and was glad they got knocked out.

in the cup with a couple of disgraceful penalties. Di Matteo said NUFC should not moan because (if you saw the fucking dives you'd understand, fucking cheat Dorrans) - then the next week his team  lost to a last minute joke of a pen & he moaned, over & over & over again.

Can't remember who had the last laugh though....

Couldn't agree more. Everyone goes on about how they dominate games with their 80% possession but Chelsea, and to a lesser extent Milan, showed that it ain't worth shit if you can't actually score enough goals to win. Plus, Barca's defence is an absolute joke for the "best club team ever".

Title: Re: Champions League Final
Post by: Summerof69 on Saturday, May 19, 2012, 17:21:03
Personally, how the final is played at the home of one of the finalists is a joke. It should've been taken away from Munich as soon as they reached the final. I know cities bid to host it, but UEFA should put a proviso in saying that that if the host club reaches the final, the final goes to an alternative venue. I think most 'experts' say that the 'home' venue gives Munich the advantage....which shouldn't happen.

I still find it amazing that the Millennium Stadium has still yet to host a CL or Europa Cup final.

I'm not talking about World Cup/European Championships where the whole tournament takes place in one/two countries. The CL final is a one off, where the tournament takes place all around Europe. If they want the final still in Germany, move it to somewhere like Dortmund, but not in one of the finalists home ground.

Cole and Cahill were immense tonight. Impressed with the centre backs managing so long on return from injury too! Undecided on the Tarry thing. Part of me agrees he's jumping into the limelight when others are more deserving. Another part of me thinks that if we'd won the League One play off and Greer had done the same thing then we'd have loved it.

Either way, congratulations to Chelsea!

Fair play to them, Bayern were completely on top but they won it in so they don't care and an English side beat a German team on penalties? no way.

Also John Terry you cunt, you did nothing in that final, you nearly cost Chelsea agaisnt Barcalona and you were shit agaisnt Napoli stop celebrating like you've scored the last minute winner. Remember the likes of Scholes and Keane didn't want a medal in '99 because they thought they didn't deserve it.

Probably the wrost winners since Steau Bucharest. Chelsea were absolute dogshit. Its just typical of when a decent team plays a shit team - beware of set pieces - one corner in 90, one goal.
Terry is still a cunt - probably thinks he won it for them.

Title: Re: Champions League Final

Chelsea Deserve it. 3-1 down at Napoli, 2-1 down against Barcelona. They've battled hard and defended gallantly for 3 games in a row now, with a squad shorn of many big players, and come out on top.

Aside from John Terry, they don't have any really dislikable players do they? Cole can't keep it in his pants and Drogba can be a bit pantomime, but both have been colossal in the final and the semi's. All credit to them. To say they don't deserve it is churlish and, frankly, wrong.

Good post. I agree entirely. Although I don't actually have any dislike for Terry.

I think Greers sending off was a tackle or attempt to get the ball which went horrendously wrong. Where as Terry deliberately kicked out at someone. Both violent conduct but not the same.

I dont know who actually made the decision to allow him to lift the trophy. If the players decided and agreed to let him do it - then fair enough.

I dont think Chelsea would have won with Terry in there tonight!!

Happened to come across Paul Terry (johns brother) on Twitter last night who was saying how proud of his brother he was. I replyed saying why, he didn't play yet hes lapping it up. Woke up to a private message from him telling me to fuck off and that I'm a cunt. Didn't take me long to remind him about Dale Roberts suicide in said reply.

A bit a daylight robbery is good for the game as far as I'm concerned.

Chelsea clearly knew that they couldn't match Bayern on ability.

Payback for Leeds Fans.

I seem to remember a certain Bayern Munich being played off the park in the European cup at the Parc Des Princes back in the early 70's under Don Revie only to be hit with two break away sucker punch goals.

Defending is as a legitimate skill as attacking, just less interesting to watch. At least there weren't Chelsea  players rolling around and time-wasting.

Plus it gives the Germans a new experience, losing on penalties.

I think o-Tans went OTT mentioning Roberts too.

That's not what I said, he may well be a vile prick and I understand why people dislike him. But a discussion about the CL Final in which he didn't play has turned into a discussion about John Terry lifting the trophy and that he shouldn't have a 'right' to do that. It'd be different if he was getting given Sports Personality of the Year but I just don't understand the massive outrage.

What has he done to upset Swindon fans so much? Leon Clarke I can understand, Joey Beauchamp even more so but John Terry? Good grief, why give a fuck if he lifts a trophy he had a hand in winning?

On topic, I thought Chelsea played exactly how I thought they would - to their strengths. I thought they would sneak it

Was some good defending by Chelsea last night and at least they tried to attack when they could in contrast to the Barca game where they just stuck 8 players along the back.
Bayern had plenty of opportunities to win it but just fluffed them, so have themselves to blame and can't really complain that were hard done by.

Everything was against Chelsea. Having the final at the 'home' of their opponents was a joke, as I've said previously, so it was always going to be a 'back to the walls' performance.Once Chelsea equalised late on, you just fancied them on to win. A minute before Bayern were awarded their pen, Chelsea should've had a pen themselves, so as far as I'm concerned justice was done. Also significant in my opinion, was the pictures of Schweinstiger not being able to watch the penalty as he was looking away in the other box with Neuer, who had to tell him to get up off his knees as they had missed the penalties.

Once the shoot-out was reached, the pressure was all on Bayern, as they were on their home patch, and most of Bavaria seemed to think they just had to turn up to win it, as well as the fact that Bayern had never lost a penalty shoot-out in Europe. When it got to 3-3, with one penalty each left, and Schweinstiger was going to take it, I knew he was going to miss. How can you take one yourself, when you cannot even watch one of your teammates take one earlier in the match? He missed, and Drogba sealed the victory. It was also noticeable that Robben never had the balls to take one in the shoot-out, but their goalkeeper did !!!

And UEFA, why all this farting about in the trophy presentation? Why don't they just get the captain up first to give them the trophy and then it can be passed down the line, like they do at Wembley? And in regards to the players picking up their medals, it should only be the players in the matchday squad and the manager picking up the medals on the day, with UEFA giving the club the remainder for the squad and the other staff members who are entitled to medals, after the game, otherwise, like last night, it seemed to go on forever.

AGree about Schweinstiger. Thought it was ridiculous what he did for their penatly. Chelsea could have exploited that by leaving a man up in the Bayern half, all alone, in an onside position. He should have been up the other end waiting for a rebound.

I have to agree with this, it was a total fucking shambles.   I much prefer the captain going up first getting the cup, and then as each player gets his medal he gets a chance to lift it too, ending up with the manager.

As for Terry lifting the trophy, personally I couldn't give a shit.
As for the who gets a medal stuff, I guess it depends on whether you think Bertrand (who played 60 mins of CL football all season), is more deserving than the club captain (even if he is a cunt) who missed out on the final (through being a cunt)

When he fucked around with that penalty, I turned to my wife as if to say 'What was all that about?'  Felt quite strongly that he deserved to miss.  I hadn't seen his reaction during Bayern's penalty in normal time but, hearing about it, he was obviously not in the right frame of mind.

Minutes later, though, I found myself feeling verty, very sorry for the guy.  He will always ne haunted by those few minutes.  You could see the reality dawning on him, second by second, after he missed.  Poor bastard.  You even have to wonder how that - and Bayern's all round disastrous finish to the season, that included a 5-2 drubbing in the final of the German Cup - will affect his game in the Euros.  He's a brilliant player that played an instrumental part in England's downfall 2 years ago.  Not fair.

Footballers maybe never should be role models, but they always will be just because of the exposure they receive via the media.

I actually wrote a good chunk about how bad a role model John Terry is, for one of my essays last term. (Just after the whole racisim "thing")
