Five grand for a 9 year old 90,000 miler?!

To be fair the mileage is average although accepting no offers could be a showstopper

You wont get 5 grand for that, trust me, i tried, with a car 30k less milage. Book price on one of those is about 2.5k if that. You will be lucky to get 3k for it.

Oh and i would check your 0-62. not way is it 7.5secs. Try 8.5 and thats at a push.

Dont mean to sound harsh but thats the way it is. I was in the same position as you and the most i got offered was 2.5k so gave up and decided to keep it.

I thought the same chubbster.

7.5 secs is a bit fast unless it's been remapped. Mine does it 6.8 and thats a petrol with 200bhp. God knows where he got those figures from.

End of the day, as anything else, a car is only worth what people will pay.

Whilst we are willy waving, 6.3 seconds, 246 BHP.

However I am not much of a petrolhead, got those figures from the Parkers price guide thing.

Parkers guide suggests £2,570 for a private sale.

Good luck getting 5k!!

good thing with pistonheads is they mask numbers, so the number on that advert isnt his actualy number (well it shuoldnt be) so that number will only be valid for the time the advert is open for.

Wasn't willy waving, just saying that the car advertised was a bit out in my opinion.

Chubbs I've got a skoda octavia. If you going for a remap shark are probably the best in the industry.

Mapped to 193bhp at MRC. If i sell then good if not, i'll keep it. Ive had loads of fast cars, ask leggett (mostly Impreza's). But this is nice because of the torque and 40mpg round town.

to be honest its a nice car and i was searching high and low for one of these (150bhp gt tdi) but alas i coudlnt find one with a decent amount of milage.

I have a seat Leon FR plus....in dizzel.

What's all this mapping stuff about and how much will it cost?

Many cars don't perform to their maximum capability. There are mainly three stages of your engine being remapped and each stage costs around £300. It can improve mpg, allow more throttle response and increase bhp.

You change the engine control unit software to remap things like the fuel mix and ignition timings.

As this is a modification you should declare it to the insurance.

dizzel remaps concentrate more on increasing MPG whereas petrol engines look towards increasing BHP.
Obviously re-mapping puts some strain on the engine and its components so its recommended that you upgrade several components of the car before going ahead.
I've working towards a remap on my 1.8t mk4 golf. its not cheap but it gonna be worth it.

I'd have this car in a heartbeat if I could, Compo would you take a tenner a week? This car is spotless, goes like stink too :P

Flash, if your FR is the 150bhp variant (i think all the Leon FRs were) you'll easily see nearly 200bhp after a remap, get better mileage too.

As for the willy waving, Compo's old Litchfield Type 25 wins hands down (google it) I'd have sold my grandma for that car!

Chubbs, remapping a diesel is a different world to remapping petrols, VAG diesels especially see very nice rises in torque and bhp with no real need to upgrade any other parts. Obviously you can spend a bit more, replace the intercooler and pipes and hoses and see a much bigger difference, but for a £300 remap most VAG diesels will see nearly 200bhp.

you dont need to upgrade to a FMIC really unless you are pushing for a stage 3. With my exhaust, induction kit, forge 008 dv and uprated silicone TIP my golf will see 205/210 bhp from a stage 1.

Cheers....

It's 170 and seems to go like stink for me.

Also, it's a company car and I can't see them allowing it to be pissed about with.

I thought it was taking out a chip and putting another one in.

Title: Re: Selling my motor...

You can get 'plug in ones'. You can also get it de-mapped once done. The right companies will do this for free and then remap.

I've had a nose at the remaps for my car, a £399 "plug in" will add 40-50bhp and add 88ft/lbs of torque. The type of plug in I looked at is a five minute job done from the drivers seat (well, that's what was quoted). You can also reset the car back to the factory settings if you want to. I am estimating that my insurance premium would go up by £30-50 a year. I have read that my car with it's standard set up clutch, turbo, intercooler etc is good for 300bhp. My car is rapid enough and I am not really into all this car modification in the extreme, but a simple plug in that can give even more overtaking oomph (when required) sounds good to me. :)

Friend of mine just had his Audi 3.0TDi quattro remapped - can't remember the company but they sent him a reader to plug into his ECU which he then uploaded the output of to their site and downloaded an optimised set up - now gets 300bhp and gained and extra 5mpg - the ECU reader gets left in the glove box so that if he has an accident he can plug it in and return it to default settings... £600

Mapping is all down to major companies dealing with the lowest quality fuel. Ie VW Golf gti is sold all around the world and is has to perform as the company says it does.

We are fortunate (but bloody expensive) to have a high grade fuel in this country, so the car can be reprogrammed to run at an higher octane, so it will produce more bhp and in turn more torque.

And as for a plug in, its just a on and off switch for the map, manafacturers setting or a custom one.... :-)

It's probably more to do with wanting you to spend a lot more money on a faster model. Also a conservative mapping will make the vehicle more reliable.

Haha, reminds me of emails I get from a customer from time to time.

In his signature he has his title as Accunt Manager.

I've never pointed this out to him, it's much funnier this way.

Sorry to go all 'what the fuck' on your collective arses...but mapping appears to be a computer thing that makes a car go faster and improves mpg.  If I can get that on my mini, then (cost permitting), I just should?

Do I have that right?  I await abuse and the occasional informative email.
