Title: Bed help!
Post by: 4D on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, 08:39:19
The time has come to invest in a new mattress, the one I own is 5 years old and cost about £700 but it now leaves me with a back ache. I don't want to spend that much again, can anyone recommend a mattress that gives a good nights sleep and no back ache in the morning?
Ta x

Did you know that memory foam was originally developed by NASA for its astronauts

Get a memory foam. Seriously.

I've heard memory foam can make for very hot nights? (and I mean temperature)

I've got an expensive memory foam mattress in my flat, but bought a cheap one for Mum's spare room. They're nearly identical and having slept on them both, I can't tell the difference despite being about a grand difference in price.

I got the cheap one on eBay, I'll see if I can find a link for you.

It was pretty much this. The seller I used is no longer a seller. It was called a Sleepshaper 500.

Cheers Bazza. Does it get really warm though? It says it is "temperature sensitive"  ???

When I moved from spring to memory foam I noticed no difference in terms of temperature, I'd never even heard of that until this thread. I think the auction is implying it's good in both hot and cold, but I'd give them a call if you're worried about getting hot.

Don't forget to dump your old mattress outside the house of the woman who was trapped last year.

:)

My current mattress has a "latex" layer at the top which is/was comfy, when I bought it the sales guy said that "it didn't reflect much body heat, unlike the memory foam" (his words not mine). Maybe he was talking bollocks?  :)
I might pop into a bed shop and lay on one for a few hours to see if it's true  :D

I was thinking of donating it to the pox, a few more donations and they could build a "bouncy" away end outside the fence.

I have a memory foam (Tempurpedic) and it by far the best mattress I have ever slept on.

I think the temperature thing is due to the fact that with a memory foam, your whole body is in contact with the matress whereas with a traditional spring mattress there are gaps where air can circulate and keep you cooler. I cant say I notice the temperature difference too much, but then I've been told I dont stay still in my sleep long enough to get too hot !

How come you all know what brand of mattress you have, for Christ sake?

I have a bed and a mattress, and I go to sleep. Thats all I know!

I've got 2 mattresses in my garage that need a new home. However, being all mouth and no trousers, that's likely where they'll remain for ever more.

Memory foam is ace.

It's a few years back now but I'm pretty sure this is who we used - no complaints at all.

I'm another vote for memory foam - other half has had much less back problems since we got it
Like someone else said though they are a bugger to get up the stairs

I think you should try the memory foam shop at the outlet village.
