Title: My Dad Post by: WR5 on Sunday, April 15, 2012, 08:42:25 Only stayed until half time yesterday as I got a phone call just after telling me my Dad had lost his battle with a brain tumour. He took me to my first game in the late 70's and we shared many ups and downs following the Town together.
He has stopped coming in recent years preferring to go and seer local non league side Worcester but still liked hearing about Town games when I went to see him. I have just this season started to take my lad and my Dad was so proud when he knew that Will was coming with me and I am sure he had a tear in his eye first time he saw him in his replica top. Title: Re: My Dad Post by: fatbasher on Sunday, April 15, 2012, 14:31:09 I echo everyone's sentiment and wish you and your family well during these trying times and in the future.
I would like to add that my father never took me ever to football even though he promised me he would. So I had to take myself in the early 70's but that's life. I do now have the pleasure of taking my 8 Y/O son to matches when the opportunity arises along with my wife, both have suddenly embraced STFC this season, not just for the fact we keep winning and of course Paolo. I am proud that I can take them and even more so that they have become part the STFC "family" as I'm sure your dad was of you and of course your son. When we win promotion this year, we'll do it in style and with a genuine passion that I think you only get at our level. Also it will be for the dad's and mum's who over the years have all lent their support to OUR club by bringing us the fans of today and tomorrow. I of course never had the pleasure to meet your dear old dad but from the bottom of me heart your dad was and is a hero. Regards Fatbasher. Title: Re: My Dad Post by: Hitchinred on Sunday, April 15, 2012, 16:11:53 I took a video of last season's roll of honour to have one last memory of my Dad's association with the County Ground as his name was read out. Condolences to WR5.

I too lost my Dad to cancer three years ago. He was a huge town fan and I don't forget the first game he took me to back in the late 70's. He stopped going as he had problems with his hips during the premier league season. I can't tell you much I'd of loved to have told him about how good this season has been!!!

I really take the positives from your post though, the fact that your old man took you to the football and got you hooked on the town. The obvious pride he felt at you introducing your boy and his grandson to our footballing religion and those memories and times you shared should always make you smile. I've had some real touch and go stuff with my dad (double heart bypass) in the last 12 months and it really makes you think about what sacrifices they made for you and the efforts they made to make your life what it's been. Think positive, after all without him, you wouldn't have been as good as you are!
