Title: Personalised Number Plate Post by: Boy About Town on Thursday, April 12, 2012, 23:47:24 Want a personalised number plate, been looking at one on the DVLA website.
If I buy it, for examples sake it is A12 BCD and I get the plate made so it says A1 2BCD is that legal? Tricky question I cannot seem to find an answer for, cheers Title: Re: Personalised Number Plate Post by: jonny72 on Friday, April 13, 2012, 03:06:43 If it's one of the current style registrations then no;
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/PersonalisedRegAndNumberPlates/DG_181503 They don't appear to say anything specific about older styles but I believe the same rules apply and that you're not allowed to fuck about with the lettering or spacing. Title: Re: Personalised Number Plate Post by: stfcinbmth on Friday, April 13, 2012, 04:11:25 but I believe the same rules apply and that you're not allowed to fuck about with the lettering or spacing. But people do Title: Re: Personalised Number Plate Post by: @MacPhlea on Friday, April 13, 2012, 04:43:21 Spacing is a legal matter and has to be in the right place - the only space that must exist is between the numbers and three letters (this principle apples to all types) changing the spacing will result in MOT failure as will not using standard fonts
R551 TER RS51 TER ROS I73R ROS 51 DVLA do have the right to recall your plate if it is being altered to look like something different but I haven't heard of an actual case but would imagine it would do so where the letters/numbers are made to look different (5 into an S or 6 into a G etc) Title: Re: Personalised Number Plate Post by: Sippo on Friday, April 13, 2012, 06:32:21 Buy mine
Title: Re: Personalised Number Plate Post by: Peter Venkman on Friday, April 13, 2012, 07:55:06 As Mr Macphlea says changig spacings on a number plate can cost you a fine of more than you paid for the number plate itself.
Best thing to do is leave it alone and let people work out for themselves what your message is. I bought an unreleased personalized plate from the DVLA and havent changed the spacing at all as its just not worth it long term with MOT fails and fines. Title: Re: Personalised Number Plate Post by: Sippo on Friday, April 13, 2012, 08:00:07 If you move the spacing, and get stopped then you won't get fined just a 14 day rectify notice. Yes if you move the spacing it will fail the MOT. Just change the plates over before/after. I've had mine for about 12 years, and been stopped twice.
I have recently bought a new car, but haven't put my 'old' plates on just cos I cannot afford to buy 'show' plates. Is it this one ;D Title: Re: Personalised Number Plate Post by: JanTheMan on Friday, April 13, 2012, 10:37:05 Why would you want a personalised number plate? Each to their own, but personally they only tell me one thing about the driver.
Title: Re: Personalised Number Plate Post by: Flashheart on Friday, April 13, 2012, 10:40:49 Rightly or wrongly, I'd think that a personalised plate will be an invitation to have your car keyed

Each to their own, but personally they only tell me one thing about the driver. Would mean something to me, do not care what other people think Rightly or wrongly, I'd think that a personalised plate will be an invitation to have your car keyed Shouldn't imagine plate alone would warrant people to key it in our home town, however I only use the car for journeys to and from work, odd drive at weekend around Town, if was commuting to Oxford daily it may be a little different! Whether it's warranted or not is not the issue. Title: Re: Personalised Number Plate Post by: Sippo on Friday, April 13, 2012, 11:30:14 Seriously buy mine L15 TFC. Make me an offer via PM.

Doesn't compete with OO05 TFC Title: Re: Personalised Number Plate Post by: donkey on Friday, April 13, 2012, 13:24:35 Doesn't compete with OO05 TFC Shouldn't it be OO0Shaun Taylor? Each to their own, but personally they only tell me one thing about the driver. I'm Swindon born but exiled in Bristol :cry: - the Lord Mayor's Daimler is AE1 - my initials - I sometimes wonder what they'd accept as an offer for the plate. Regardless of the letters used, it always reads as TWAT to me Title: Re: Personalised Number Plate Post by: bertheadbabe on Friday, April 13, 2012, 17:51:59 Regardless of the letters used, it always reads as TWAT to me Don't you mean 7W47 ? Title: Re: Personalised Number Plate Post by: @MacPhlea on Saturday, April 14, 2012, 05:53:08 Rightly or wrongly, I'd think that a personalised plate will be an invitation to have your car keyed Had my plates for 7 years and never been keyed. Mind you they arent football related so that may be the difference and to be honest you probably wouldn't even know they are personal plates... Unless you saw the two of them side by side... Title: Re: Personalised Number Plate Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, April 14, 2012, 08:12:19 Me too, had mine 4 years and no ill effects but again I wouldn't ever get a football related one, mine is related to my band and my wife.
Title: Re: Personalised Number Plate Post by: Sippo on Saturday, April 14, 2012, 08:43:06 I've never experienced an issue, not even in Oxford/Reading/Bristol.
