Could well be the game we seal promotion on being our game in hand then only nine points left on the table thereafter.

It's a pisser of a trek from here so wasn't planning on going unless we had a chance of promotion/championship in this game.

Problem is, by the time we know if that's the case the tickets are likely to be sold out.

my thoughts too. think if thats the case there will be a fair few town fans in the home end. east terrace is split between home and away fans so go an stand next to out lot

I will be doing my best to get tickets to this one and the remainder of away games, go to the majority of away games anyway but tickets will become more in demand in anticipation  :)

Was looking forward to this game when it was on a Saturday, then that stupid cup final got in the way and now I can't go. Hoping to make Gills and possibly Bradford, but they're the only away games I'm going to get to now I think.

Should be a quality night this one.

Old school half and half terrace, where the fans need a bit of backbone to be heard. You have to keep at the chanting, otherwise the home fans will dominate. Town fans not usually very good with these terraces, not used to it.

Got mine today. I was at the promotion games in '86 and '96 but missed the championship game both times. I've got a feeling this might be the one after promotion vs Plymouth.

Got mine yesterday afternoon in the covered terrace. Should be a great atmosphere!

They have a pair of drummers who arent that annoying as they play combos. Sort of bass and snare effort....fair play they do make some noise. Not much sound from the Oxford end though!

Probably about 400 to 500 now.

Took me 25 mins on hold to get tickets, can see this being sold out within a matter of hours today

Got mine this morning too - 20 mins wait despite the initial message saying 8 mins!
Seats all sold out (only 150 though).  Just selling covered terrace now - I guess they'll move on to sell uncovered terrace when those are gone.

Just had my ticket confirmed for this.  Very excited.

If there's the prospect of winning promotion that game, we would take something like double that number given the chance.

When we got ours at about 2.55, there were 290 left, so probably not many left as a few probably got there's after the game.

1210 sold so far then. It should be a cracking atmosphere.

I sort of hope we clinch promotion here rather than on Saturday. Think under lights with a noisey atmosphere of an away gathering it will be more of a memorable occasion.

Don't mind the football club, quite like the ground in fact, but Aldershot the place is the biggest shit hole I've ever been to. And that includes Port Talbot and Tai O.

Out of interest, what route are those travelling by train from Swindon going to take?  It's a pig of a journey, to be fair.  Are you going Swindon-Reading-Ascot-Aldershot or Swindon-Reading-Ash and then a cab?

What route would be better at 3pm on a Tuesday afternoon from North Oxon to Aldershot ?

I originally thought Oxford > M40 > M25 > M3 but then remembered the M25 gets very busy at this time of day by Heathrow.

Another option is Oxford > A34 > Newbury > A339 > Basingstoke > M3 > Aldershot.

Any Berkshire/Hampshire locals advise ?

Personally, I'd stick to the M25, I think...because everywhere is going to be congested at that time.  Wouldn't try to be too clever about it.  Your alternative route takes you through Oxford, Newbury and Basingstoke, all of which are going to busy as well.  I have a number of alternative routes I take to get up on to the M40 when I know the M25 is going to be busy, but don't think any of them are going to help during rush hour on a weekday.

I'd say you'll be fine with that.  Google Maps now has a real time traffic facility on its route planner.  Assuming you're somewhere near Banbury, the route advised is, as expected, via the M25 - and the journey time showing right now (ie height of rush hour) is 1:44, up from 1:34 in perfect traffic.  And for what it's worth, Google thinks your Newbury/Basingstoke alternative would take approx 15 mins longer.

Chipping Norton to Oxford on the A44 will be my route.

In which case your A34 route starts to make more sense.  At the risk of sounding like a complete anorak, I'd suggest the following:

A44 to Oxford
A34 to M4
M4 to Reading (J11)
A33 to the end of the dual carriageway section on the Berkshire/Hampshire border
B3349/B3011 to Hartley Wintney
A323 to Aldershot

This incorporates some of the route I use to get up to Swindon and the M4 from Farnborough.  Don't be put off by the B roads...they're fairly quick.

This Berkshire/Hampshire local totally recommends this route, faster and much less millage than the M25 route. Could get busy around B'stoke at rush hour but no route is perfect for this trip.

Reading are their traditional rivals but that's from Reading's Elm Park days.

Aldershot town 1992

I actually quite like Aldershot, if only because they're the polar opposite of Franchise FC.  The club went bust 20 years ago, so they reformed in the Non-League, spent years playing local derbies against Farnborough and Woking and finally made it back in to the League under their own steam.

Not that any of that will stop me wanting to celebrate our promotion at their place though.

This, they actually don't mind admitting it's a different club unlike the Slave Traders from 1982 down the road.

Yeah i use the reverse of that route if the m3 is jammed when i drive down for home games.

Me too, I used to live in Basingstoke. It isn't too bad rush hour in Basingstoke, Black Damn roundabout just before M3 can be a bit slow but that's probably what I'd do unless the M3 was screwed.

Coming from Swindon I've also done M4->A329?->Bracknell Harvester->Aldershot. Its a bit longer but I was hungry!

I use this route regularly to get to Farnborough (from the M4 J11) and its highly advised.

I've only just realised I'm in Farnborough all day tomorrow and in London Wednesday, staying locally overnight. What a twonk....so another plea for a spare ticket (I'll need to know by about midday though).

I've just tried to register on the Shots forum. They seem a decent bunch to be fair and there is talk of joining in with a Paolo Di Canio chant and clapping our players at the end if we get promoted/win the title.

I'm also going to ask where I can park my Massey Ferguson near the ground and is there somewhere to tie the pigs up while I watch the game.

I was going to say the same.  I am quite sure that Aldershot are expecting a good number of our fans in their ends, given that we sold out early on and then didn't 'cross the line' on Saturday.  (Their fans are, certainly, according to a few posts on shotsweb.co.uk).  As long as people keep it sensible - as I'm sure they will - I can't see there being a problem.

I used the P&D on the main road in to Aldershot last two times. Then its down the road, round the corner, up the hill and through the park of death..

I think they might just stop charging at 6pm.  I've certainly used it before in the evening when going to see comedy gigs at the Princes Hall.

Your train does need to physically stop in Didcot.  Some guards will turn a blind eye, but others will apply the letter of the law.

Going from CJ does seem the easiest route from our area. I will be going from Mitcham Junction to get up there as that's my closest station. Keep an eye out for a lone Town fan at CJ!

Yeh, we could down to redhill but then we would have to change at Guildford, which would be a bit cheaper but it's not worth the hassle.
