Title: Updates
Post by: jimmy_onions on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, 13:03:24
Seeing as the annoyed thread has gone I thought I would start a new one to get something off my chest.

Now, I am undoubtedly turning into a grumpy old man and I spend a large proportion of my time moaning about something or other, but there is one subject that really gets my goat...and that is 'Updates'

you know the expression, "if it aint broke, dont fix it"...... is actualy a wise piece of advice

Some examples

 - Windows 7 - an ergonomic disaster

 - Any word/excel document - why do I now need .xdoc, or .xlsm..what was wrong with good old .doc and .xls. Now if the two were compatible then not a problem, but obviously you are unable to open new docs on old PCs. Of cours enot, that would be way too easy.

 - Acrobat - much to the annoyance of all at my work, I still use Acrobat 5...(I think everyone else is now on 8 or 9). Why? Coz it was the last version that actually worked in doing what I wanted.

 - The new BBC sport website - a monstrosity

 - The new Barclays on line banking page - gross

 - Any app update for my iphone, invariably either does not work, keeps hanging or just looks awful.

 - Installing the latest edition of windows live (when the old msn messenger was perfectly fine). Did I want to install google search bar, a shortcut, a deskop icon, a aquick launch button, a this a fucking that....no I didnt....I jsut want my old one back.

 - Acrobat flash player / itunes - why am I required to update these every 38 minutes?

Progress?

Grrr....

Thank you. That is all.

In defence of windows 7 is predecessor was very very broken. Every day I hate vista more.

And more annoying than file formats is word 2010. I spent a lot of time working out where everything was on the old menu. 2010 changed everything with context sensitive banners. No way to go back to the old menu either.

This is my point in a nutshell. Why, for example, is a button which used to sit happily in the top lh corner of the screen for the last 20 years, suddenly better in the middle RH side of the screen, if not just to annoy users?

I find 2010 easier to use, in general.

Although I am having trouble with the auto line function (when you do a few '----------'s and it automatically draws a line beneath the page). I somehow turned it off and now for the life of me can't figure how to turn it on again.

and the happy thread.

I've just flagged down an ice cream van and bought a twister. A fit, blonde bird in a little skirt walked past at the same time. That made me happy/feel good.

That would make anyone feel happy and good.

Twisters are nice - especially on hot days.

what happened to the annoyed thread?

I think both were locked in order to encourage new threads to be started Chubbs

Thats my take on it anyway, and a move that I agree with

Oxford was absolutely rammed with fit totty today. I am going to enjoy market days there during the summer!

The sun is out and so is the totty.  Im sitting in an office just next to the stage door in guildford tonight.  The stage door keeper, rather than the usual 63 year old bloke serving out his time until death, is a 23 year old brunette dancer.  I think I love her a bit.  Just for today.

She is a very nice person as well.  You see I am dead deep and care about personalities and stuff as well as tits and arse.  Honest.
