Title: What a difference in 12 x months ....!!!! Post by: NZrobin on Thursday, March 15, 2012, 04:26:45 What a difference in 12 x months ....!!!
A year ago we (STFC) were a total cot case..just waiting to be relagated. A manager (D.Wilson) without any ideas or passion. Players (Mostly the ex Leeds lot) who were fucking lost before the start of a game. A chairman who was out of his depth. In fact I suggest that the club had no leadership what so ever. I hated just reading the results. Did it stop me supporting my football team.....very nearly yes. 12 x months later....Total transformation. Am I dreaming. Is this really STFC This can't be just Paolo Di Canio or is it ? And I bet there is no debate about what colours the Town will wear on the 25th either. Come on you reds and long may PDC stay :) Title: Re: What a difference in 12 x months ....!!!! Post by: Gethimout on Thursday, March 15, 2012, 09:10:43 I hated just reading the results. But thats just not going to games, thats not stopping supporting them. I left several game slast season thinking what a bunch of useless wankers but I know most of those wankers would leave at the end of the season and be replaced, 99% of the time the managers can see who is "swinging the lead".Title: Re: What a difference in 12 x months ....!!!! Post by: thepeoplesgame on Thursday, March 15, 2012, 10:21:28 In a parallel universe we stayed up by the skin of our teeth last season, 'saviour' Paul Hart got the manager's job full time and last season is happening all over again.
Thank fuck I live in this universe. Title: Re: What a difference in 12 x months ....!!!! Post by: Ginginho on Thursday, March 15, 2012, 10:31:07 The thought of just staying up and having Paul Hart full time makes my teeth itch.

In fact I suggest that the club had no leadership what so ever. I don't agree with this. Fitton wasn't the manager nor, as far as I recall, did he make any appearances on the pitch so I don't blame him for our relegation. He backed Wilson (perhaps a bit too much) but he would have got slated if he hadn't. Some people forget that we had been at Wembley with Wilson the year before and he doesn't seem to be doing too bad a job at Sheff Utd so he isn't a shit manager. Fitton clearly hoped by giving him time he'd turn it around but it just didn't work out. I blame the players for that. The club may not even be here without Fitton's work so I exclude him from blame for last year. Title: Re: What a difference in 12 x months ....!!!! Post by: Arriba on Thursday, March 15, 2012, 19:30:43 Fitton deserves alot of credit for taking us on and rescuing the club with the rest of the board. He should not have got involved in football matters like he did though. Deffo a negative factor in that regard

I'm all for lavishing the praise on Fitton but he isn't exempt from criticism. Title: Re: What a difference in 12 x months ....!!!! Post by: Batch on Thursday, March 15, 2012, 20:08:13 Not exempt, but personally I am not going to argue with rescuing the club and taking us to within a gnats dick of the championship.
If he meddled in team affairs then that is unfortunate, he also spent a fair wedge by supporting Wilson bringing in the likes of Prutton, Sheehan, etc. Title: Re: What a difference in 12 x months ....!!!! The two home matches...Walsall and Exeter just after the great win at Leeds were pivotal and the lack of a bigger squad to replace jaded players caught us out i reckon. Fact is Wilson took his eye off the ball regarding fitness and off field antics at crucial times especially last season, history has shown that Di Canio will not let that happen. Paolo has been absolutely brilliant so far - but I would suggest he hasn't been here for long enough for "history" to show us anything. He dealt with the Clark situation, yes. He's given us a great season so far. He's created a positive atmosphere we've not had in years. BUT - its not too long ago we were saying similar things about Wilson. Hindsight is a funny thing. I'm not being negative about Paolo in the slightest - I'm just saying we've not yet seen him a pressure situation in the last few weeks of a season - such as the situation being spoken about with regards to Wilson. Title: Re: What a difference in 12 x months ....!!!! Post by: Flashheart on Thursday, March 15, 2012, 21:09:30 I agree with Baggins

Well he has been in a pressure situation surely, after the Oxford result the team could have folded....just because we are all those points clear dosn't mean he hasn't been under pressure and the league table shows me that he has handled it well. Not only that he has had the death of his father to deal with as well not to mention all the shit the FA have been shoving his way.....pressure handled well in my book. Not a slight against Wilson at all,he came close and only time will tell if Paolo can take us one step further,or who knows maybe two! Title: Re: What a difference in 12 x months ....!!!! Post by: NZrobin on Friday, March 16, 2012, 22:54:15 Interesting to read some of the comments on this subject..
No, I am not a moron for expressing my veiws. Last year when having my son asking me "why Swindon dad?" seeing STFC in such a melt down state and with all of his friends only have heard of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United. I kept explaining to him...They will be all right, dream a little and it will happen....!!!. So, MaTanZa...go fuck yourself. Go back to school and learn to read. When reading "Very nearly yes" is not "yes I did"...You wanker. As for Andrew Fitton, I suggest in his brief spell in the top job he has proven to be true to his word and steered STFC through possibly OUR most darkest hours financially. Yes, a total saviour in my veiw. Now handed over to J. Wray who seems to have the midas touch. So well done A. Fitton and J.Wray My initial comments were more to do with PDC...what fantastic potential Swindon has whilst this guy is in Town. Long may it continue and I do envy all you lucky supporters being able to go to games week in and week out. Have great day at Wembley and with PDC in charge it will be a fantastic experience. Only wish I could have been there in person. Come on you reds :) Title: Re: What a difference in 12 x months ....!!!! Paynter was obviously told to "stop trying" as part of the Leeds contract. Leeds were doing the dirty to win promotion from a team (us) that were really starting to hit form, that worried them, lots! It's a bit like, but, sneakier than when Blackburn bought Shearer from us. It was a ploy to derail the STFC steam train. We were flying. We had a run in of games that had win written all oven them. leeds played the cash card to Paynter and the leaves hit the track. Guilt caught up with paynter for the final in IMO and the players knew it. That was the start of the end of Wilson Title: Re: What a difference in 12 x months ....!!!!
