Title: Avi To iMovie compatible file.
Post by: SuggWillSugg MBE on Sunday, March 11, 2012, 17:11:14
For a presentation I have to give on tuesday, my group borrowed a camera from the uni and filmed a short video.

As it's in a few parts and one of my course mates says the word fuck on it, I need to use iMovie on my mac to edit the different files together.

Problem is the camera we borrowed has saved the files in AVI format which iMovie (nor any other program on my mac) can open.

Been googling and cannot find a decent free Avi to m4p converter.

I need to use it once so am happy with a free trial, but one that doesn't restricts how much I can convert! I need all the videos without a watermark and with the audio intact.

Any suggestions?!

VLC will play it but not convert it

Quote
With the DivX QuickTime codec installed, iMovie will accept [DivX-encoded] avi files without conversion.

Then you may be able to edit

Try http://allfreevideoconverter.com/
Obviously the video converter, its simple and free, might take some time to convert.
Be careful when installing not to install a shitty tool bar, its very shit and hard to remove.

A useful little application called Handbrake is your friend!  I use this all of the time to convert .avi files and just about any other for use on my iPad and iPhone.  It's free easy to use and doesn't come with any crapware.

VLC has done the job! which I also already had on my laptop but wasn't showing up for some reason.

Also iMovie is a heap of junk too.
