Thought I'd better attempt to start a thread on my 1,000 post :)
A couple of thing are playing on my mind. Yesterday I found 6 £20 notes in town, not in wallet just rolled up. I noticed a lad riding away from where I picked them up and knew him so later I drove around his house and asked him if he had lost any cash. It was'nt his but I felt really good about making the effort to give it back but now do I keep it ? Or hand it in to the local police? I'm trying to convince myself that it is drug money etc to justify the fact that I might keep it. I'll share the other situation if this one goes ok.

If it was in a wallet or envelope I'd hand it in. Just loose like that I probably wouldnt though.

Must admit I've always thought if I found anything of any value I would hand it in without a thought but it's different when it actually happens.

I hate it even if I lose a tenner so someone's going to be pretty gutted, Wembley tickets are out on Tuesday though.

In the same vein. did anyone else see about the road sweeper who found not one but 4 expensive watches down a drain? I think one was a Rolex worth 21 grand.

Yeah I saw that, they are genuine watches and combined are worth around £61,000. No one has reported them missing which in its self is dodgy. The road sweeper gets them after a month if unclaimed. Weren't they found in different drains but in the same area ?

I think so - Can't help thinking robbery myself but if so why hasn't anyone claimed them - you don't lose that amount without missing it!!

If i saw someone drop money I would give it to them. If I find money in the street it will go in my pocket, likewise if i lose money i don't expect to get it back.

A couple of years ago I found a wallet stuffed in a hedge outside a supermarket. The cash had gone but the cards were still inside with PIN numbers on a bit of paper FFS.

I took it to the police who found the owner and he dropped me up 6 bottles of wine!!

Result all round - does make you feel good

When I lived in Bristol, I found a wallet in the street one night in Clifton. Had cash & credit cards in it.
I phoned the owner, and he lived about 10-12 miles south of Bristol and didn't have any transport.
For some reason, I offered to drive it back to him. So I went off on a 25 mile round trip, and the guy said "Thank you." !

A few years ago while on holiday in the states we went into our motel room and the kids found about 600 dollars in cash in a cupboard. We took it to the reception, and they phoned the people who had been in the room before us. They didn't even realise that it was missing but came back and collected it and didn't even say thank you.

When i was about 13 i found a purse at the fair and went on the dodgems and enjoyed my best nappy night ever.

My mate found an extra £20 in the cashpoint on friday.

My daughter found a mans wedding ring on the beach back in the summer. We handed it in to looe police station, they took our address details, A couple of weeks later my daughter had a really nice letter from a family in Leicester saying that they had spent hours looking for it but just accepted they wouldnt see it again. They also put a £ 30 WH Smiths voucher in with the letter for my girl. Now I've remembered this I'm 50/50 on what to do with today's find.

Hand it in, if it's drugs it's likely the person who lost it won't bother reporting it.

 Moons ago, a bird I shared a house with, lost her purse, which contained a sizeable lump of resin, as well as the usual cards, cash etc...

 We got a phone call form OB asking her to turn up at the station to collect the purse, now we didn't know if teh resin was gone, whether OB might have considered paying us a visit or what...

 So she went in and OB gave her back the purse...resin and all. Not all coppers are bastards. :)

My wife once left her purse on a table at south mimms services, we went back five minutes later and asked around but never really expected to get it back. Not a great deal of cash in there but it was the hassle of cancelling cards etc in the early hours that we could of done without.

I've seen people walk away from a cash machine before taking their money. I have chased them down the street to give it to them.

Finding a purse or wallet is different, as you would normally have the name of the owner.  Therefore it's more difficult to detatch it from being someone's.  Cash on it's own is different.  Even if the money was just dropped by a normal person and not drug related, I very much doubt they would report it's loss to the police.

 I once withdrew £100 from a cashpoint on and got back into the car too busy talking to my friend and put the money on my lap instead of in my bag.  Inevitably when I got out the car, the money came too and I assume fell into the road.  By the time I remembered I had the money on my lap and went back to where we'd been dropped off, of course it wasn't there.  I felt extremely pissed off, but it didn't enter my mind to report it, I just thought someone had a good night on me!

I think that technically it is. Do you remember that case a while back where someone found a lottery ticket which turned out to be a winning one? They were found guilty of theft.

The CEO of the company I work for here in China was involved in a car crash last year which killed two people.  He wasn't seriously injured and from his hospital bed asked one of his friends to go to the scene of the accident and get his personal belongings from the vehicle including his wallet and laptop.  When the friend got to the car everything had been taken.

I have since found out that its a common occurrence here, there really are some bastards in the world!

If you hand loose cash into a police station they'd probably keep it anyway.....

What's known as Christmas party funds ! My daughter dropped £50 in Asda last night, she didn't realise until she got to the tills to pay for her shopping so I'll use some of the found cash to replace what she lost. Swings and Roundabouts and all that. She spent an hour looking for it and no one handed it in, unhonest bastards !

I found a tenner in Tesco last year handed it in and they gave a 30 day claim period then it was mine. I just asked them to put it in the Charity box if it wasn't claimed but I do wonder if someone just pocketed it.

Don't spend it on tickets - you could jinx us with your ill gotten gains  :D

I believe things like that, also never play cards with borrowed money.
