Title: Electric Chainsaws
Post by: stfcinbmth on Sunday, February 5, 2012, 18:42:02
Anyone got one? If so is it any good? If it is any good what make and model is it?
Need one for sawing up logs for the fire, the electric saw I have takes too long

I bought one for exactly the same reason-£100 from B&Q .Its a WORX and I'd recommend it.

I don't have one but I have a petrol one. Cracking bit of kit, I would have thought that an electric one would be a bit wimpy and a waste of money. Can't beat petrol power. I think you can buy smaller ones these days too. Be careful though, I have a lot of experience with mine and I still treat it as though it will chop a limb off without a second thought.

Appears they don't do a Worx anymore adje but they do a Bosch one for £100 which has good reviews and a two year warranty

@Paul, don't want the hassle of having to get petrol, oil etc. The logs aren't that big

That's fair enough. If you are going to buy one at all I would buy a decent brand like the one you have mentioned. I would never waste good money on a cheap 'unknown' brand for the sake of a couple of quid.
It's Tom by the way. I have been a Swindon fan for years and regular viewer of the TEF, thought it was time I signed up.
Paul backskin was a gag name. Couldn't think of anything else.  :pint:

The more members, the better advice on chainsaws your going to get, so appreciate your input Tom.

At the moment I'm using a Black and Decker Scorpion electric saw, takes me about 10-15 mins to cut a reasonably sized log in half, it's driving me nuts. People keep dropping us logs round all the time, and I'm getting further and further behind, the garage is bursting

Was thinking more along the lines of you popping down and doing it for me

I think I know the one you mean. Have you tried looking to see if B&D do a better attachment sawblade for the scorpion before looking down the road of a new piece of kit?

Yeah, think I've got the best one they do

Looking at their site they only do three blades for it

Have a look on screwfix then mate. Better prices normally unless they have a special offer on at the B&Q.

If you are looking to spend the £100 mark I would suggest the makita. They make quality products.

A real thread for real men.

Clearly it's not as there's been no mention of using an axe.

We got a new bed earlier this week.  I've sawed the old one up with an old fashioned saw burnt it on the fire.  Grr.  I am a man.

I also wanted my wife to fall asleep in front of the fire so I could amuse myself with an antipodean rock song of the 80's pun.

Got this one in the end. £11 quid off using a voucher code I found online, and 4% cashback with quidco. Pick it up at local store tomorrow. Bargain, good reviews for lumber jacking too

Cheers Paul  :pint:
