Title: Postponed Games
Post by: Don Rogers moustache on Sunday, February 5, 2012, 11:18:13
The weather in this country can change day by day,I think that all games that are called off say on the Saturday, should be played the next day weather permitting, then you would not get a build up of games

So you'd want us to play on a Sunday, and then the following Tuesday?

can be done with smaller games but pretty difficult to get all the staff in place. stewards, ball boys, etc.

I wonder if the Board are looking at the possibility of under soil heating? I imagine they probably are, seeing as we are doing quite a passable impression of a proper football club these days :hmmm:

Especially as the long term plan is to redevelop the current stadium rather than relocate.
However, how many times a season would it actually be required?

For a £250k investment I'm not sure you would see much of a return

Hmmmm...not cheap, that's for sure. I'm guessing it's something they would seriously look at if/when we get to the Championship.

Don't get many days down south where it would actually be required

Now on that thought - I'll assume none of us are under soil heating experts, however - for the most part when are games are called off is it not usually the same areas of the pitch, ie those that dont get the sunlight on them in the morning.

Would it worth having under soil heating just for those parts? It would keep the overall cost down I would have thought?

We have always had problems with the pitch over the Don Rogers stand side. Not sure how many games we postpone per season but probably not enough to warrant the cost of under soil heating. Even grounds with heating postpone games due to bad weather.

Well I can only assume that most clubs in the Championship have it as you only have to look at the games called off in Leagues 1 and 2 (almost all of them) and compare that with the number of games called off in the Championship (hardly any).

Would of thought it cost a fair few thousand to hire and run the heating dome and we probably had to pay Burtons expenses if they travelled? But still don't think it would be worth the installment of under soil heating plus the running cost of it just to try and get a game on when it could be called off anyway due to the terraces and pavements etc being dangerous.

Undersoil heating is a complete waste of money until a new stadium comes along. Even then we can probably do without it.

Isn't it a requirement in the PL?

I believe so now, but it doesn't stop games being called off for 'health and safety' reasons.

That health and safety is only a recent thing too. Lot of old bollocks if you ask me

Don't suppose the council are going to go to the trouble of clearing the surrounding streets of ice and snow for the 7 or 8,000 we get. Whereas the they will for 20,40 or 60,000. Do clubs have to finance the clearing of snow and ice by the councils outside the stadiums?

Wasn't the Derby v Forest game called off today for safety reasons ?

The pitch was fine, it was the surrounding roads and paths around the stadium.

Yes. So was Chelsea v Man Yoo last season. Personally, calling it off for H&S reasons are a joke.

Can't remember where I heard this, but it is true:

10 years ago if you tripped up and broke your leg people called you a clumsy cunt. These days you are called a potential claimant.
