Title: What did you do today?
Post by: THE FLASH on Saturday, February 4, 2012, 21:21:37
Game cancelled.

I imagine that all you crazy fuckers that queued for pox tickets spent the day Kipping.

I gave my mate a call and ended up watching the slave traders lose 2 zip to the mighty champions of Europe Leeds..

Drive back was an adventure as the local council decided that despite every fucker in the uk knowing that there was going to be snow and freezing temperatures they decided not to grit the roads....m4 down to to two lanes and then one and chippenham was like a fucking ice rink...nice one...

I went to the pub. Then I went to another pub. Then I walked home in the snow, it was cold. Then I watched Hustle. Now I'm in the awkward 'best not to start doing any job applications as it's less than an hour to MOTD' period. Might stick the kettle on. Hardcore.

Spent the morning at Devizes Police HQ talking About dying /dead people :headhurts: was looking forward to a happier afternoon until I heard the game was off. This afternoon getting pelted with snowballs by the kids although it felt more like giant ice cubes !

Where did you go? Did she have a good day?

I was going to wash the car but decided not to as it would've been an ice rink otherwise.

We ate at The Lydiard. Thought it would be a good idea because it's out of the way and wouldn't get too busy. We were right, it was quiet, but they're obviously not very used to dealing with large groups.

Little one had a great day. She was spoilt rotten (again).

On a garage forecourt in Devizes before 9.30 this morning there was at least 3 cars being washed by a half a dozen blokes, they were spraying the cars, forecourt and road with gallons of water although it was -5 !

It was my youngest ones birthday today i had got her a ticket as all she wanted was to go to football with her dad for her birthday, so i had floods of tears when the game was called off, so i took her in town for a treat instead she settled for a pair of Hello Kitty shoes & 1 pair of slippers instead of the football. The shoes & slippers cost £8 her ticket to footie cost £12 + the food & drink so i was quids in, then she wanted to goto the pub so i could hardly refuse. 3 hours later & she had poured her first pint as a birthday surprise she was as happy as Larry walking home in the snow.

After this mornings queuing efforts I watched a film with the Mrs this afternoon which I fell asleep to after about 15 minutes.  Cooked dinner and to make up for being out all morning and falling asleep agreed to watch another film which the Mrs promptly fell asleep to after 15 minutes.  On the bright side however at least we managed a film between us today! Oh and I got an Oxford ticket!!!!

I worked from 7am to 4pm, had a quick slice of toast at home then went over to Swindon from Devizes in the snow (agree with earlier post about the gritters not being out - they were just going out about 6pm - the bit around Avebury was particularly bad). A few pints in the Rolleston as for once I wasn't the driver, then watched a few bands in The Furnace. Chicken burger from Mr Cod on way home, and slipped over coming through my garden gate.

Jutty out of interest was it quite a natural liking to football your little girl developed or did you have to encourage her a little bit?  I've got a  one year old at the moment and I was only having this conversation with my mrs the other day, about how many more girls like football thesedays. Mrs wasn't having any of it, but I still have hopes that she'll be walking down the County Road with me on the way to the CG.

To butt in, my kids came to the Macclesfield game and for the first time the eldest actually enjoyed it and was paying attention to the game.  Not just the sweets I'd bought her.

Little girls tend to idolise their dads.  Often because Dads are away working a lot so when they go off for 3 hours on a saturday afternoon, the little 'uns are fascinated and want to be with them.  So you'll probably find that the kid will want to go but you have to make sure its a good experience for them.   You see the problem is often when they get in the ground, at a young age they are bored.  So if you get her to come, make sure she has plenty to do.  The football is kind of a sideline to it.  They are more interested in rocking robin, sweets, capri sun and anything outside of the football until later years.

Ive signed them both up as Junior reds, which was £15 this year, they got a little bag and a pencil, which is very exciting to young girls and more importantly (to me) they get free tickets.

Hope you get your wish and in years to come get to do that walk down county road to the CG.

So in summary, fuck a of interest really :)

Neither of the pens in the second half were as obvious as the one they didn't get in the first half.

Still, makes for an interesting last 20 mins

Some interesting pointers there...thanks.  Sounds as if the main thing is to dwell not so much on stories of past glories/Moncur & Hazard midfield/SSP scoring a hattrick on his debut etc.  And more on Cheese Dippers and crayons.  The bag & the pencil sounds incentive enough for my two to join up in the summer!

The family in front of me (cute mum, dad big enough to put me off looking too much!) bring their little girl. I would guess she is 5 or 6. They always have a comic, colouring book and pencils with them, and the girl gets through the games without complaint, and cheers at the right times.

Be prepared to get grumpy with people around you swearing, though. Parents with little girls seem a lot touchier about it that those with little boys.

Ive took my little girl once before, she was very bored. But this was a couple of years ago, she has taken a bit more interest now and her favourite player is Ferry haha. Gonna try and take her again before the season is out now she is older.

On the flip side there is nothing worse than having to constantly get up and down because some little un finds it more interesting going backwards and forwards than staying in their seat for more than 5 minutes. >:( that's where the book and pencils makes a difference.

For all you doting Dads, that can't wait to bring your precious little bundles of joy to The County Ground, can I make a couple of suggestions?

1- If your worried about swearing, go in the family enclosure. That's what it's there for. Football is becoming sanitized enough already without some self righteous father complaining about a few expletives.

2- Make sure their little feet are kept away from the seat in front of them. It does my fucking nut in when there's a kid behind me drumming out a monotonous beat with his/her shoes.

I think it's great to get kids going to football, I took my lad to his first game when he was four. What I don't like so much is people expecting everyone else to modify their behaviour due to their decision to bring small kids.

herthab, unfortunately the family section in the Arkels doesn't seem no better than anywhere else. I'm sure Wiggy would also say the same. That's where I used to take my daughter and that's what used to get my back up more than anything. There is blokes in that section who don't even have kids with them and thinks its totally acceptable to use what ever language they want especially at the start of the second half when they come out of the legends lounge and sit amongst the families. The stewards seem just as intimidated as most other people about saying anything to them.

Seriously my boy (7) knows he will hear swearing at football and he knows that just because it is used at football it does not make it ok to use at home/school.

Sorry Notts, my humour not coming through on that post. Before people call the social services I'm not really taking a 13 month to an evening kick off, in probably sub zero temperatures. I'm happy to wait a few seasons before she gets her CG debut.

Good pointers.  I took my oldest for the first time when he was 6, but he got bored too easily and spent most of the game asking when it was time to go and being told off for kicking the seat in front as per Herthab's comments.  Last season was much the same, but considering the dross we had to put up with, it wasn't surprising he got bored and fed up!

This season has been totally different.  He's 8 now and understands what's going on and loves every minute of it.  He does still enjoy Rockin Robin (particularly as the chap who dresses up sits just in front of us), the half time entertainment and a kick about with a rolled up sock or glove in the Legends Lounge afterwards! However it's the actual football which is his highlight now.

My youngest is 4 and I've not taken him yet.  I may get him a ST next season and then the option is there if he expresses an interest.  At the moment it's more about Tom & Jerry and Scooby Doo.

On the subject of taking girls,  I was around 8 when my dad first took me.  28 years on I'm still going, so I don't think it matters whether you have a girl or a boy.  If they have a football mad dad (or mum) it's difficult not to get involved.
