Title: Youtube Recommendations
Post by: Amir on Sunday, January 29, 2012, 14:55:19
Hello all,

So myself and the wife have been involved with an orphanage in Cambodia for over a year now, teaching English and what not.  As well as teaching I also try to tell or show them things that will amaze them or broaden their horizons, and sometimes just to make them laugh.

Anyway, inspired by some videos on the 'things that make you smile' thread, on Friday I showed them Danny MacAskill - Way Back Home, and to say they loved it would be an understatement.  Now I'm frantically trying to come up with new things for them to watch and would appreciate any ideas you might have.  They mostly have good comprehension of English, however more visual things are better because English spoken at any pace would be hard for them to follow.

I've found some good dancing videos, although more would be great, and any extreme sports, wildlife, physical world, performance(magic etc.), or comedy(slapstick goes down particularly well).

Cheers.

Trigger Happy TV and its bigger budget BBC spin-off World Shut Your Mouth is good for some short, sharp comedy clips that can be easily grasped by non-language speakers.

Thanks, Bob. I did consider some Trigger Happy TV.  I'll have a proper look and see if I can ind anything they might like.

I looked up some Remi Gaillard as well, though I'm not sure how well it would translate to their environment.

My friends Mum, who only speaks Cantonese and Mandarin, absolutely loves Mr Bean, I'm sure that much of that can be found quite easily.

And David Elsewhere:

Edit: On second thoughts, they might not get the musical stuff?

Thanks R4E and Barry.  That David Elsewhere video is coincidentally one I already have lined up, along with Faithless - I Want More, and some breakdancing.  They like Mr.Bean, or at least the young ones do. I'll be fucked if I'm putting that on though, maybe some you've been framed type stuff.

To the rest of you, pull your fingers out you useless cunts, and that includes all lurkers and hiders.
