I hit the zone the other night and pillaged £100. Bloody addictive though so I'm going to have a break. I was dreaming online poker last night. Title: Tonight playing Poker Post by: hansgruber on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, 11:43:29 I played for about 6 hours the other day and won... £1. Quality. Still about £800 up overall though 8)
Title: Tonight playing Poker Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, 11:50:49 What did you get beat with with 4 four queens. That's harsh, that's a hell of a hand.
Title: Tonight playing Poker Post by: hansgruber on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, 15:51:16 Sometimes you get a bad beat bonus, although I think it only applies if you use both your cards in the losing hand
Title: Tonight playing Poker Post by: Dazzza on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, 17:45:23 Anyone else use a overlying program to calc odds?
Must admit if you can't gauge odds you shouldn't be playing cards but I find it's a great way of double checking you don't miss anything. Particularly if your playing on big tables with loads of hands and a lapse of concentration may cost you big time. Been using Texas Calculatem, which even monitors who folds and guesstimates cards left in the deck. Handy piece of software that's saved me a fair bit. Title: Tonight playing Poker Post by: yeo on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, 17:49:03 link?
Title: Tonight playing Poker Post by: Dazzza on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, 18:00:49 http://www.calculatem.com/
I had a hacked version and lost it. You can get a free copy mind if you sign up for Noble poker and make a deposit which was all well and good but the fucking bastards pay winnings by money order from the US. To add insult to injury for the sake of £20 I want out of my account I have to fax em my passport and driving license to prove who I am. Quick way to calculate odds in your head, post flop. number of outs x number of cards to come x 2 = X% I.e. Holding Kh Qh, flop is As 9h 4h. You have flush draw, nine hearts left (in theory). So 9 outs. Kings and Queens won't count as you shouldn't count under cards as outs. You could still draw for them if you're getting good pot odds, but they are not outs as they are under cards and therefore bettered by the board. Same goes for the runner, runner straight draw, as you need to catch 2 running cards (silly odds) you'd have to be a knob to play for it unless free. *For those that don't know, outs are the cards which give you the best hand, or at least the best hand you could make with your cards and the board as you see it. Obviously someone could be holding a pocket pair and has flopped a set, but unless the board pairs (full house or 4 of a kind potential) you have the second best hand available. Ace high flush being the nuts. (9 outs x 2) cards to come x 2 = 36%. (The exact percentage is 34.97%) Its good and quick and isn't far wide of the actual percentages. It works with all outs calculations. Didn't mean to ramble on, but felt it would help those who don't know how to calculate odds. Title: Tonight playing Poker Post by: Sussex on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, 20:17:14 Fuck me sideways, I'm trying to learn poker and I'm just more confused now.
Think I'll stick to rumy! Title: Tonight playing Poker Post by: Bedford Red on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, 22:17:36 I was invited to a Poker night on Thursday, it's a monthly thing but I said I'll go in August as I need to learn how to play it better.
Barry, thanks for the tips, but like Sussex I'm completely lost now! I see that ITV have got some sort of Celebrity Poker starting next Monday night at 11.30 so I'm going to watch that to get some ideas. Title: Tonight playing Poker Post by: Dazzza on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, 23:43:48 £60.00 up tonight 8)
Think I have finally mastered the art of discipline. Quit on my target for the evening and started with just £12.00. Realised that I was haemorrhaging too many chips chasing potential hands rather than pushing the dead certs. Title: Tonight playing Poker Post by: yeo on Wednesday, July 20, 2005, 01:22:59 played 3 tournaments tonight and got 2 seconds so am 15 up.
I too am starting to master the art of discipline (at least tonight) I havent chased tonight and have just sat back through the early hands and let everyone else knock each other out.Just mixed up a bit of slow play and banging it at 'em it seems to have worked fairly well. Never seem to quite get the luck when its heads up though. Title: Tonight playing Poker Post by: Simon Pieman on Wednesday, July 20, 2005, 09:40:55 I think I will get playing more at uni next year. Unknown to me, the uni have a poker tourney night every week 8)
