Title: Forest or Leicester??
Post by: LJ9 on Sunday, January 15, 2012, 15:34:05
Interesting this one for Town. I for one think it was a shit draw in the FA Cup and to go out to one of these would be an anti-climax to our extraordinary run in the cup.

But looking at both of these sides...they're not having the best of seasons and think we could do them.

Leicester were being billed as championship champions elect before a ball was kicked. Ericsson was at the helm, they paid over the odds for players (Mills, Fernandes, Schmeichel) but now they are mid table and having a very below par season.

Forest....well where do you start? Play offs last season and things looked as of they were only going to get better, but again, things have worked out the opposite and now are in serious danger of going down. Don't rate Cotterill at all and this was a terrible appointment after SCHTEVE MCHLAREN! They were woeful yesterday against Soton. Am I right saying their captain and defender Chambers will miss 3 games after his sending off yesterday? If they beat Leicester in the replay, he will miss the game against us.

We're on a brilliant run at the mo and with both these teams on dreadful runs, I really think we can go to wherever needed and get a result.

Forest's home record is woeful...only 11 goals scored and only 3 wins from 14.
Leicester not that better...6 from 14.

I think we can get at least a draw at either of these sides in all honesty.

Nice to see Billy Sharp has rejected a transfer to lester.

According to a Forest fan I play football with, they are truely awful, with Cotterill playing a long ball game that makes Bassett's teams look like us under Hoddle.  Apparently they have no chance...

I want Forest. Just so I can call them Notts Forrest and annoy certain OCD/pedant members.

I also think we'd have a better chance against them, though our record there is rubbish.

Have been to both before, and both are closer than a home game.

My sons best mate at school is a Forest fan, so I guess for that alone we would probably prefer Forest.

Don't think it will happen though, can't see Forest winning at Leicester

Leicester v Forest (ESPN Tuesday)
Wolves v Brum (ITV1 Weds).

Wouldn't have thought there was any chance of getting shown live. We would need to be at home to stand any chance of that happening. If we bring them back for a replay (whoever it may be) that would be a different matter.

We've provided pretty good value to the overseas audience in the last 2 rounds. I'd imagine if we could force a draw up there then a replay would be in with a good shout of being shown even if on ITV4.

In response to original post -

It's going to be Forest, and we're going to beat them. This is our season of redemption.

Make up for not winning from behind in a million years -> Done a couple of times (yes i know we came from behind against Charlton last year, humour me)
Make up for losing to Crawley in the FA Cup -> 3-0 to the circus team...
Make up for not beating a top-tier side in R3 for ages -> Done
Make up for the shocker at Wembley -> TBC 25/3
Make up for the 7-1 against Forest -> TBC 28/1

The Trent Navigation pub is a real spit and sawdust type of place. Been plenty of scraps in and around it in the past. Think it kicked off big time when Bristol City went up there a couple of seasons ago. A real working mans pub !

I just googled it and it appears that it's had a refurb ??

When we went in, 2 butch lesbians were behind the bar and the pool cues were snapped in two.

The urinals were also smashed to pieces.

Purely for personal reasons I would go for Forest.  I know a couple of Forest fans so to get one over on them would be enjoyable.  After speaking to them they seem to think that if they managed a miracle and beat Leicester in the replay, we would smash them at the City Ground.

Oh, they also have Hooters and Trent Bridge nearby which would get me going!

Worst away pub ever?

Anyone remember the 6-4 win at St. Andrews - tried to get in the nearest pub but were told it was a Zulus pub and were directed to a pub up the road.

Filthiest shit-hole I have ever been in. Outside bogs just like an open latrine.

Still got leathered though which gave me enough courage to abuse the brummies after the game when a group of their 'Asian' fans had a go armed to the teeth.

Ah, those were the days!

It's been bought out, and done up by Northern Inns, same people who've got The Southbank, The Globe, The Monkey Tree, The Approach, and I'm sure one more somewhere else?  They're building a micro brewery round the back, it's supposed to be their new flagship pub, strange that, because it certainly won't do any business other than on match-days.

Lester do look a bit suspect when players run at them with pace and also have trouble dealing with (the very few) crosses Forest have put in the box. They are good going forward but no so good defensively, we can get a result there I am sure.

The thing is, Leicester will have us watched and their scouts and coaches will go back and say, "Swindon are a good side, you're going to have to be on your game, don't take them lightly".....and so on but it will go in one ear and out the other. The players (and fans) will be thinking, "L2, this will be a piece of piss". They're going to be very wrong. Not saying we're going to win but we will give them a hell of a game - unlike what Forest are doing.

You Could go via Stow on the Wold then up the Fosseway then left onto the A5 towards Hinckley then M69 not a bad route and quite quick used to use that when visiting family up in Nottingham, but that was a few years ago or another way would be A420 to O****d/A34/M40/A43 to Northampton then up the M1

By Car(Not Lorry :D)

Leave Swindon for Cirencester.
Leave dual carriageway  when seing signs for Stow(and services) near Cirencester.
Right at roundabout follow road to Stow....stay on the same road where you will pick up the Fosse Way straight to Leicester....about two hours...ish.

Via Nortleach,Moreton in Marsh,Bourton on the Water............please note this is a dodgy road if driving, patience and maybe an extra half an hour is advisable ;)

I think 3000 is the initial allocation we have asked for.  In total we are entitled to 5000.  Clearly the club want to see how they get on with selling the initial amount.  Be surprised if we get over 3000 though.

Well as you know I live in Leicester...so I thought I'd try to mop up a few questions and help if I can.

My route from Swindon to Leicester is out to Lechlade, through Burford on to Stow and Moreton.  Leave the Fosse Way just after Halford (left at roundabout) and follow signs to A46.  A46 until you come off at M69 junction.  M69 to the end, straight down Narborough road, turn right onto Upperton Road to the ground.  Parking could be a bit of a bugger though.  The journey always takes two hours.

As for curries, haven't been to Bobby's for a while but it was good when I went, Paddy's is great (http://www.paddysmarteninn.co.uk/) and for a posher curry try Memsaab (http://mem-saableics.com/), the curried ostrich starter is very nice.

I'll hazard a guess that Leicester will field their strongest outfit....something Wigan and to lesser extent Udders didn't, both of whom visited the CG.

Shitty are just shit anyway....Leicester start as massive favourites...at home, some big name players who might just fancy making a bit of effort for the Cup.

I think this is the most telling comment from that forum:

Quote
not being funny but Leicester have always taken cups seriously and we never play a weakened squad

If that happens it could be the end. Which is fair enough. I just hope for no injuries and a good performance. Having the arguably bigger Southend game 3 days later is a PITA.

I was hoping for Nottingham, I thought it would be a tougher game for us, and a lazy game for them, maybe more of an opportunity for us to step up and make something happen?

I think we can do it, but it's never going to be easy.. Or pretty.

Tickets go on general sale after the game on Saturday, in person only. Does that mean I can't buy over the phone? Or does that rule just apply to Saturday night?

Back to business. I'm not going to be in Swindon before the Leicester game.. Tickets at the gates (assuming it's not a sell out) or can you only get them in advance?

Looks like Leicester have signed Wes Morgan from Forest and Danny Drinkwater from Man U which doesn't make our task any easier. Drinkwater is a real good prospect and will strengthen the foxes midfield without doubt.

Would rather get my tickets earlier tomorrow before the rush but some mates don't have season tickets so we will have to wait until later to get the seats together. Can't see it being sit where you want on the day.

Does anyone on here know if its allocated seating or sit where you want. If its unreserved seating I'll get there early and she (the littleun) will have a good view from the front, if not how can i get a ticket where she will be able to see given that we will probably all stand up?

Worded that badly after a few too many!. Not going today as daughter has swimming gala and dont go every game (just over half) so wouldn't go without her. Was debating missing some of her gala to go and buy tickets and request near front but obviously no point if unreserved or if they are just dishing them out block by block. I know this sounds a bit anal but I remember fullham being a nightmare as she hardly saw a thing.
