Darlo are deep in the shit. I am sure everyone on here can sympathise. The following is from the Darlo forum...

Show them that although we have been on knocked down and might be on the canvas right now we will get back on our feet and come out punching. It will be us who land the knock out blow. Use this day to shame all of those plastics and couldn’t give a damns in the town into thinking about what they could have been a part of, make them see what have been about, what we are about and what we will be about again.

Lets celebrate the good times, the 85 promotion, Boro, the Conference win in 89/90, Welling away, 90/91 champions, Rochdale at home, Knowles, Little, Hodgy Platt, Hodgy (again), Wembley in 96 and 2000 and that sweet moment in May when a little fella headed home from half a yard to win us the cup.

Make everyone who has knocked us or laughed at us over the years understand that today we embrace all of the crap players, the terrible teams, the rubbish managers and the crazy chairman who have afflicted us. Why? Because all of that makes the few good times even better. Because all of those things are what Darlington Football Club is about. Let’s show them what it means to call your self a Darlo fan one last time.

Lets also think of all those people in the Tin Shed in the sky who aren’t able to stand with us on Saturday, think about what the club meant to them and how they passed on that love for the club to you, think about how one day you want to pass that love on to the next generation so that they know what being a Darlo fan is all about. I am sure they will be stood leaning on that crash barrier under the Sunday Sun board with their scarf’s and flasks of Bovril thinking "typical bloody Darlo" - but they would still make the journey if they could! In fact I am sure they will be there with us. Sing that bit louder for them.

If anyone is unsure about going and is able to go they should make the trip, it could be your only chance to say goodbye to the team you love. It could be your last chance to wear the black and white and get behind the lads. Do whatever it takes to get to Barrow, wear your shirts with pride and wave your scarf’s one last time. Tell anyone you meet where you are going and why. Tell them you are proud to support the lads!

And should this turn out to be the last time then lets celebrate all of that, lets support the lads and the manager, lets keep singing up to the final whistle and beyond because this club means something to each and every one of us, it has been part of our lives for so long, it is what makes us who were are, it is what makes us better than everyone else and it might not be there for much longer. Let’s make this day one of the greatest moments for this football club.

The club and local media have made attempt after attempt to drum up some support and always failed.

Either way AFC Darlington or Darlington Quakers or whatever will inevitably emerge and they'll be able to start again.

Dave Bennet broke his leg in the first game if I recall correctly. Shaun Close did, amazingly, score in the return leg though. I think he almost had two in fact but one was given as an own goal instead.

We got some grief from some Darlo fans after the game, and Gill acted like a nutter in the second leg at the CG.

Never liked Darlo after that.

And I once got punched by a Darlo fan in Torquay...

Went to their new Ground once (won 2-1) but must have visited the old Feethams ground at least 3 times getting beat 1-0 every time.

Love all of the Clubs in the North East and the people.

I think it is interesting how brief, personal experiences influence opinions about other football teams. I've had some great away days in the North East, witnessing good and bad games, and having good, bad and indifferent experiences with opposing teams' fans. There are some experiences though, especially those that are influenced by fans, that help place other teams in a league of 'likes' and 'dislikes'. I had a great time in Liverpool as a result of an accidental meeting with a Liverpool fan on Crewe station platform. As a result, Liverpool FC rank higher than Darlo in my own personal experience League.

Of course, it is all very subjective and unscientific, and I would never want to see clubs like Darlo, or even the Pox go out of existence, because fans of football clubs like our own generally deserve better.

Basically they are finished. Sad news for all concerned really. That stadium was always going to be a disaster for them. With Newcastle and Sunderland on the doorstep they were never going to have the fanbase to sustain it.

  It's happened before and it will happen again, that a club goes tits up....quite often they come back stronger, but I suspect in the case of Darlo, they wont come back at all.

Feel sorry for Darlo myself...went to watch them at Wembley in the 96 play off final against Plymouth. My first visit to the Old Wembley.

Seems a great set up with the ground et al, but sadly with Sunderland, Newcastle and Middlesbrough not far away it doesn't suprise me!

The post-match scenes at Barrow made it quite clear that fans, players and management knew that it was the final game.

Shame but inevitable and always glad we've avoided such a fate... For now.

Unemployment is scary prospect.

Having found myself on the unemployment list this week I can understand how scary it feels without an immediate income. I certainly couldnt work months without pay and fair play to the footballers who could.

Great for Darlington. Clearly their fans have been through a lot based on their tweets to Brown. They call him a club legend, a good bloke, a great player and....a credit to football.

That's a coincidence, my mate also a Swindon fan smacked Lita when we were in a bar at Newbury races. A few Reading players were in the bar getting aggressive and loud, it didn't help that my mate kept singing, Run,run run, run, Reading. A few punches were thrown and Lita got caught with a good one. Our group was asked to leave !

Just been listening to the Darlington manager on Sky, sounds like a few big clubs are trying to help out but because of restrictions they can't do much player wise. Think Sunderland have loaned them a U19 keeper. Brown has been talked into playing tomorrow.
