Title: The 1300....
Post by: RedOx on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 20:25:47
Was speaking to Oxford mates today, who said that the temporary stand for the away game at Oxford is now not going ahead. Hence we will have 1300 tickets in the North Stand. Apparently H&S and planning issues make it a non-starter

They also say that they don't expect us to sell all 1300!  :hmmm:

Sorry if this has been mentioned already.

They also say that they don't expect us to sell all 1300!  :hmmm:

They really are in cloud cuckoo land if they think that.

We sold more than that for a game at Northampton FFS, and for most Town fans that's twice as far.

They were never going to get a safety certificate in time. The Pox should face facts, that will be a 3 sided ground for ever.

So we can sell 1300 for Northampton but not for a match against our nearest and most hated rivals? Some people have no idea or are on a wind- up

Indeed. We took 3000 in the cup last time we played them, so not sure why they think that.

Gonna be alot of disapointed town fans. Can't see many then (a couple of hundredat a push) being left after the season ticket holders have bought theirs

Title: Re: The 1300....
Post by: Spencer_White on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 20:47:12
I dont give the Pox much credit. But I will say that it is fair enough giving us a minimal allocation because they have sold out their end. No complaints.

We will have more important away games than this towards the end of the season, so hopefully fans dissapointed they cant get Pox tickets will go to those games instead.

Not a wind-up from me CheltRed, just what they think.

I have a ticket for the home end (mate has a spare) so looks like I'll have to settle for that unless I can offer payment in kind to a town ST holder!  :headhurts:

Myself and brother will also be in the home end, we arent season ticket holders at town and we didn't fancy our chances of getting a ticket in the away end so will be behind the goal with our best mate who's a poxford fan!

Zero chance. It was only 1 per ST for Wimbledon and similar for initial allocations at Northampton, torquay and Rovers.

I'm surprised they haven't asked it to be moved to a neutral venue, like Wembley for example.

It is their cup final after all.

Title: Re: The 1300....
Post by: No Longer Posh Red on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 22:02:18
I'm guessing there will be a fair few ST holders who won't want to go, but even so I guess it will be hard to get a ticket.

I wonder if the club will think about trying to get the game on a big screen?
I guess it would depend on the cost & what the demand might be

I should think a couple of hundred will go on general sale. Half our season ticket holders are old boys who don't travel.

Title: Re: The 1300....
Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 22:43:34
I dont think they will make general sale. when you look at the Wimbledon allocation that was ST holders only and that pretty much sold out in 1 day. Demand for this will be huge. No chance of it making a third day of sales.

on the flip side of that Wiggy my mate has six season tickets between his family and because 3 of his kids are really young + his wife and father in law wont want to go he is only looking to get one for himself where he could potentialy get six.

I would walk, run, swim, pedalo, usw from Hamburg to get a ticket for this game. Sadly I think no chance of getting one.
This after I vowed never to watch them play us ever again because I couldn't take the embarrassment of losing  again like the FA Cup game.

This time though Paolo will have the lads up for it and I am convinced we will right the wrongs

I think this is the real reason they put tickets on sale so earliy for home fans.  Probably knew - or, at least, suspected - all along that they were only going to make 1,300 tickets available for our fans.  By selling the home allocation first, they have avoided the possibility of our fans ending up in the home stands.

Can't say I'm that bothered.  There are better away days than Oxford.

Yes it could be a wind up but they are like us, some people have freinds who work for the club or are close to those ITK.

They obviously know more about what's going on with this fixture than we do, quite understandably, as they knew months ago which pub we have been allocated in the city centre.

The away allocation is dependant on how many home fans in the North stand plus the segregation netting.

Because of the way the concourses are designed, well rather the security doors between each section, the allocation can vary in the extreme between either 1300 or 3000....I think!  ;)

Fair enough. Wouldn't be surprised to get so few but was hoping for a few more than that to be honest.

The ground is so far from the centre that, in all honesty, you'd be better off drinking somewhere like Abingdon before the game anyway.  Not much further from the ground, and less hassle.

This is what happens when you build your ground at the arse end of nowhere.

A couple of points.

1) There is no way on earth you'd get me to go in the home end with those tossers. Ever.

2) Arriba, if ST holders don't get priority for away tickets, then who does ?

3) It's 12pm kick off so I can't see us being given a pub.

Still have no idea how i'm going to get to the ground. Got a few options.

1) Drive there

2) Get a bus from my house into Oxford centre and then a taxi to the stadium.

3) Train from Kingham or Charlbury into Oxford then get a taxi.

I think arriba's point was that they shouldn't operate a priority system, just leave it open on a first come, first served basis.

I'm sure it was, but as much as i like arriba (thanks again for the dvd mate) he's talking bollocks on this occasion. First come, first served would mean we could potentially have 1300 there who haven't even been to a game this season. Alright i know this is the extreme but there has to be some sort of priority system to reward the more loyal supporters.

The reason why i don't think season ticket holders should get priority is because i think they should only be rewarded for their home loyalty only. Away tickets should be treated differently imo.
The current system rewards some fans who may not usually go away, whilst others who go away regularly will miss out.

i'm not in favour of a free for all from the outset.
I know it won't change prior to the scum match. it's just my view on the current system.

I sort of see your point arriba, but I don't think it's possible to set up a system to work it, unless  away trips are all ticket only. In truth, away supporters aren't helping the club financially on those occasions (in a direct way), so why should the club give them priority ?.

Also, it's more of a factor given the number of season ticket holders we have in relation to the ground capacity of most clubs in this division

1. There's still a lot of pay on the day away games, with no proof of whether you went or not.

2. Giving ST holders priority means the club is rewarding the fans that financially help STFC, if you go to a lot of away games how much, financially, does the club benefit?

3. Most (Although I appreciate not all) regular away supporters have ST's. You may get a fair few out of town supporters that attend away games close to home, but those that go to all, or most, away games will have ST's.

Much as I value arriba's opinion usually, this time he's talking bollards.

Nonsense!

I'm a ST holder but due to the fact that I work night's, it makes it difficult to attend as many away games as I'd like.

People know from the off, that ST holders get ticketing preference whether it's an FA Cup game or a League Play Off. That's just how the system works!

Title: Re: The 1300....
Post by: Ardiles on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, 17:45:41
As hertha pointed out, it's also the only way it could work in terms of administrative simplicity.  The club does not have the time or the money to create a system to reward attendance at away games.  I'm not sure why it should either.

I've had a season ticket for only one year since I started out in 1990 (guess which one!) and I'm completely comfortable with season ticket holders having first refusal on tickets when they're scarce.

Talking to a few Pox lads I know very well. They are not holding out much hope of a temporary stand to be honest.

I reckon we will get 1,300 tickets and that will be it.
The Police would welcome this also no doubt and probably control fans by shipping us all in and out.

Trying to get more info.

More likely one ticket per season ticket as well (as fair as it can be) but that will prevent me taking my Mrs and lad.

I reckon we will get 1,300 tickets and that will be it.
The Police would welcome this also no doubt and probably control fans by shipping us all in and out.

Here's a question, how do I convince the police I live in Oxfordshire and don't want to be shipped back to Swindon ?

I'm in double figures so that would suit me fine.

I believe you are a witneyite if I am not mistaken.

If you are then you must have been labelled by Pox "What's worse than a scummer, one who comes from Oxon." - Me also in double figures and not missed one since around 1977.

Used to love going to the Manor even better winning and then going out Saturday night. In those days it was Didcot and to be honest I have to say that I know  many of their fans and some are decent lads.

Drive by car, Reckon they may bus in supporters to and from station. Don't know for sure but likely if we only get 1,300.

I was thinking car is the best option. I would imagine the turnstiles open at 10:30am.

Nope, I'm a Park South boy now living in Stratton. Our paths must have crossed at some stage over the years. I've not missed many games at Scumville since 75

I went to the Manor 10 times and have seen the scum at the CG 15 or so times but never been to the K*ssam and won't be able to get there this time either.

The only away games against the Pox I have missed since 1979 are the 5-0 defeat, the 3-0 defeat and the FA cup defeat at the K*ssam.

Lets not lose there ever again!

Remember the 3 you missed particularly the 5-0 hammering.

Least the smoke bomb got us revenge from that one ;)

Lets not lose there ever again!

Unfortunately went to all 3 - the 5-0 was pretty evil. The fans perforrmed better than the players.
Can anyone else remember the pre season "friendly" there - that was fun. We won 3-1 i think with Jon Gittemns getting one and lumping anytihng that moved.

Couldn't reply earlier as i made my post, read the first replies and then had a drive to do.
After a bit of thought i realise my idea of some sort of away scheme is a non starter. It would rely on ticket stubbs being kept and away clubs dishing out tickets. We are not a big enough club to have a scheme but it does work at other clubs.
I still don't like the current way but i suppose it is about all the club can do.
My view is not based on my own situation as i have been very fortunate in regard of getting tickets over the recent years.

What a shame it is that we wont be going in the numbers that the scum did here. Thats the biggest pisser to be honest for 2 reasons. We wont have the impact on the streets that they had. And in the stands too

Well as you did want a Witneyite to answer...

Yes, surprisingly enough, many of their fans who are dull enough to watch league two (and non-league) football, are genuine and worryingly like ourselves in many respects.  I do have many friends in this category.

But there are many many more who hate Swindon first, and also have a passing interest in Oxford. As per your point, they don't have the social skills to handle the possibility of Oxon bred Town fans. These are the idiots to have some fun with, conversations are usually something like...

Muppet: we're massive, we sold this game out on September 15th.  we're massive, we sold this game out on September 15th.  we're massive, we sold this game out on September 15th.  we're massive, we sold this game out on September 15th...

Me: congratulations, it's a shame the switch to Wembley didn't work out, what with it being your cup final and all

Muppet: Uh?

Me: when are the commemorative tea towels coming out?

Muppet: Uh?

Me: what about the mugs?  I'd love it if you could find me one, if they haven't already sold out.

Muppet shuffles away, mumbling.

Me (calling after twat): Good luck for the rest of the season!  It'd be great if you could beat Southend for us!

Obsession with Swindon gets bigger by the month doesn't it ?

That's true, Duke.

However in the quest for balance and fairness I was chatting to an employee of well known decorating centre in Banbury when i was there today who confessed, though under no pressure from me that he thought we'd win at the Kassam the way we are playing and that there is a groundswell of opinion that Wilder should be sacked or resign, fans dislike of Constable and that at best a play off place was their best chance. Those comments were mirrored by a customer in Oxford the day before, of course I did not wish to contradict such sensible opinion or be rude and disagree!
