There's a lot of shit in that pot....Sheffield United at the CG, would look like fun, but the odds are very much stacked in favour of something horrible.

Gateshead away...fly up 2 Newcastle for a good night out, stay over and hit the town afterwards!!!

If we drew Oxford City away, I reckon they'd move it to another ground on Police advice.

Thousands of Pox fans would turn up. They don't have a game that day.

City's ground isn't big enough.

Sutton away please.

Guess oxford city would be fun

Title: Re: FA Cup Round 2 Draw
Post by: Reg Smeeton on Sunday, November 13, 2011, 13:17:38
How is the relationship between united and city?

City, historically are very much the bigger club....for example they reached 3 Amateur Cup finals before the Great War, whilst Headington were playing park football, winning it once in 1906.

City can boast an England  player, Frank Hartley who was capped in 1923, whilst with City something that Headington cannot match.

But City remained true to their amateur roots, and so doing represented the gown aspect of O*ford.

Headington were late arrivistes on the professional scene, and an early example of franchising, and I suppose represent more the county of O*fordshire, than the City.

Would prefer Oxford City at home. I can imagine getting a ticket for away would be quite difficult.

Not one attractive draw in there in my opinion, so the shittest team at home. Don't mess about in the second round!

Sutton or Luton away would be local to me and quite fun, but just want to get though.

Title: Re: FA Cup Round 2 Draw
Post by: oxford_fan on Sunday, November 13, 2011, 14:40:02
How is the relationship between united and city?

There isn't one really. Some people go and watch both sides. They get our hand-me-downs who want to stay in the area (Basham and Steele up front), or go into management (Mike Ford is their manager).

What about you and Supermarine, kind of the same deal?

They'd probably move it to the Kassam if you were drawn away, and there would be lots of yellow shirts supporting the blues.

Is the draw on ITV soon?

Pretty easy from Liverpool Street so may go to this provided ticket prices are reasonable

I'm happy with the draw. Let's hope, being a cup game, that Rose plays. Richie and Caddis would obviously struggle against his strong defensive skillz, but it'd be a challenge worth paying to see.

I also like their ground. First time I went I thought how nice it would be if a redeveloped CG was like that. I then saw people's feelings on here! :)

It's just a homogeneous, identikit, 'lego' ground with no soul.

That's the down side. The up side is that it's about 12 minutes by car from where I'm sitting now

Post by: LJ9 on Sunday, November 13, 2011, 15:24:37
On a positive we have beaten 3 League 1 clubs this season already.

There's no doubt it will be a much sterner test than Huddersfield which would give the boys a bit more to think about and help the promotion push.

3 days after it's Southend away in the JPT!! Another toughie but it will show what we're made of

Title: Re: FA Cup Round 2 Draw
Post by: Gnasher on Sunday, November 13, 2011, 15:26:38
Colchester isn't too bad. There's a Tesco near the ground and it's a 10 minute walk to the pubs. However the ground was soulless and cheaply constructed. I hated it.

Title: Re: FA Cup Round 2 Draw

Not too bad, never been before, so will probably go.

Will be a very tough game.

You should be fine. It's just a 'Hungry Horse' restaurant - a family type place. Can't believe you'd get any bother in there. There's also the Rovers Tye which is off the next junction from the A12, past the ground.

How far is the walk from the stadium to these boozers ?? I assume there is plenty of parking at the ground ?

I think its a poor draw. A tough game away from home. Give me non league canon fodder and an easy route to round 3 any day of the week..

That said, we can win the game. It could have been worse.

Just a heads up for people looking to make the trip to Colchester's soulless stadium... Last year I travelled without a ticket and the advertised price of £22 rose to £24 on the day. A sickener for such a rubbish season/ground/result - a snapshot of our season really... Misery!!

Hopefully the pricing will be similar to what we did yesterday, around the £15 mark. Even then, where was everybody?? Bloody great game and full value for money

I'm showing up my recent lack of match attendance here, but had to check which division Colchester were in.  Wasn't sure if they were League Two or one of the multitude of clubs attracting tiny crowds in the league above us.

I now see it's the latter.  If we beat them, will it count as a 'giant killing'?

The odds were very much on something horrible, and that's how it turned out.....shit journey, shit ground, shit low attendance and if that wasn't bad enough shit Cheltenham connection....Ward, Odejayi, Gillespie, and Swindon specialist Ashley fucking Vincent.

Let's hope we can do better than Supermarine, who's reward for reaching the 2nd round last season, was a trip to Camulodunum, and an unfortunate 0-1 defeat.

One of those stupid new grounds where you have to queue for 10 minutes to get a ticket and then queue for another ten minutes to get through the automated turnstyles.

Last time I went that little albino fella (Perkins?) tore us a new arsehole.

Most likely drive to this one...would deffo take a draw here and bring them back here knowing we have Man Utd for the 3rd round! Optimistic? although it would be likely with our luck of draws over past few seasons we'll get Scunthorpe or someone away!

Will go to this as the in- laws live about half hour away from their new ground. It's one of the few times I'm keen to visit them and stay over !!
The last time I was there Darby left his boots on the coach and Shirtliffe was well pissed off wondering around the car park 20 minutes before KO looking for the driver to open the door.

God, I miss Layer Road. That ramshackle shanty stand was something else!
Only been there twice mind, 100% winning record - Thank you messrs Reddy and Mooney.
This'll be my 4th visit to their new place. We've been dicked everytime.

I might have to pay a visit to Colchester Castle again though. There's a monument/memorial to 2 Civil War characters who were executed there in 1640+.
I think they haunt the place now. I don't blame them.
