Title: Flint
Post by: lazyboy on Sunday, September 4, 2011, 15:35:21
I know hes had a good start to the season, but having seen him most of the season, yesterday and also watched the game again when I got home, but does anyone else think his distribution of the ball has been pretty crap even for this level.
Most of the time he just hoofs it, and when he does try and pass it very rarely finds its target. If he could improve on this he will play at a higher level

Not having a go, just an observation

It's a fair observation. He makes some very good passes at times, very poor ones at others. Hopefully he'll get better at this with experience.

He has been brilliant in almost all other aspects of his game though. We just need to sort out how to best use him in defending set pieces.

Or get him a decent partner! Agree about the comments on his distribution, could do with some work, but not too much of a worry with his overall performances so far this season.

Not sure why he let Revell have a free header for the 1st yesterday, looked to me like he could have had that ball.

Can't say I've really noticed it. If the midfield were doing their job it wouldn't be so much of a problem.

Surely can't be as bad as Kennedy's aimless hoofing down the line?

Title: Re: Flint

It's certainly not to Ifil's level.

That is a problem. I thought Cibbochi looked decent yesterday, he looked good on the ball. Cant judge him on 10 minutes of football, could be a pile of shit for all we know, but I can see him becoming our number one left back.

From the ten minutes at the end, he looked better than either of our alternative centreback partners for Flint as well.

His distribution is awful, but so is a lot of center-backs. He also needs to start marking the oppositions most dangerous strikers and not their center-backs.

Very vocal and attacks the ball well without doubt. He does pass the ball like he's wearing wellies but compared to some we've had he's Beckham.

I do agree with the comment that the 1st goal was a bit of a gift from him but he's done superb so far.

Flint has been an unbelievable bonus for us this season.

Without his fantastic MOM performance on opening day I dont think we would have beaten Crewe.

The bloke is a defender, yes he hoofs it. So what? The important thing is he clears the danger.

Needs a partner. Shame we didnt try to keep Cuthbert, but he would probably have gone anyway.

Post by: chalkies_shorts on Sunday, September 4, 2011, 16:37:42
He's a young lad playing at this level for the first time. Given the fact that he's had a completely useless cunt behind him and what he's had alongside him has been pretty shite, he's been an absolute star. Maybe if he wasn't the totallity of our defence he might be able to concentrate on his own game. We need to nurture this guy as he could well be something special with a few more games under his belt and being part of a decent defence.

I still think Devera may come good. There is no rational explanation for this feeling, to say he's been disappointing is somewhat of an understatement.

But the fact is he's played at this level for several seasons, winning player of the year twice. Now Barnet's fans idea of a good player may be different from ours - but I don't think its so different. There must be a lot more in him than we have seen. Surely?

Passing was poor yesterday but havn't really noticed it before. Probably a bit nervous yesterday aswell to be honest.Make no mistake though he is going to be a great player if he carries on his progression at this rate.

Pretty sure young Flint will improve, luckily for us he is playing in a passing team under this managment, as he gains more match time experience his distribution will also improve. He is a real danger in the opponents box as well. Good lad.

I think Kennedy's more aimless and hoofy than flint because at other times this season he's been fairly good with the ball. I liked Cibocchi yesterday, but I still think Commazzi will become the leader we expect. He's most certainly got better distribution than any other CB at the club.

I think with Cibocchi at LB and Commazzi and Flint at CB we'll be far improved.

Did notice yesterday that Flints passing was not great but as mentioned haven't really noticed this before. Most of the time he heads the ball further than most people could kick it so a bit of work on his head passes and it's sorted !

Title: Re: Flint
Post by: cheltred69 on Sunday, September 4, 2011, 21:10:52
I think that Flint's distribution has been poor all season.  Even his headers which are generally strong are often wayward. However, as has been said he's a young lad with only 9 league games under his belt, and has been immense at this level.  OK, he's not yet developed the complete game that would make him a championship level player but assuming he's hungry to learn and improve he has massive potential and will be a great strength to us this season.
Certainly one of Danny Wilson's better decisions of the 10-11 season.

He's good for this level but his poor distibution won't see him get higher than League 1 in my opinion. The only part of his game lacking is distribution and that turn of pace.

Have to remember that this is dog shit league 2 and a thundering header out of trouble is more than enough to get by.  Hopefully he will improve...i reckon he has two hearts.

I agree, getting an older head next to him at telling him waht to do and when will help him.

He has had a great start winning most things in the air, but his positional play is also poor.

Think Southend are short on strikers as Corr and Harris are injured and Blair is expected to start on Saturday. Hope Flint isn't out but I guess he is unlikely to play in every game so we need to be able to cope without him.

Yeah big blow if Flint is out, but good opportunity for Devera to show the early games were an aberration and Cibocchi to show what he's made of.

Risser isnt going to make it in midfield.

He's played centre back for Namibia, got to be worth a go? (ed just seen out with a thigh strain)

Not sure Cibochi can play the oppostion offside.

If DeVita and Kerrouche are the two starting up front I would seriously consider using Connell as a centre back.quite often centre forwards make good centre backs and vice versa. He comes back to defend set pieces and corners anyway and centre forwards are usually tactically more aware in the penalty box than midfielders. He could be pushed up front later in the game if need be and Risser could come on to cover at the back.
