Title: Here we go!!
Post by: leefer on Saturday, July 30, 2011, 17:17:15
Went to Broome this morning on the range, just chilled out had a coffee and smacked a few golf balls, went home to watch the Howler play some inspired golf with young Mcilroy to lead the Irish Open.
Went to the Mela this afternoon, really great atmosphere though i think its time they moved to a bigger venue.
BUT this time next week and its back to buisness and i am looking forward to Crewe and City away though Cheltenham will be given a miss....we won all our friendlies last season and fi nished rock bottom so todays defeat means nought.
So as they say i am ready for the ride....here we go :D

Mela was good but is now mental busy. It would be a shame to lose the old town gardens as a venue because its so nice, but there comes a point when its inevitable.

Swindon Invincible was moved to Lydiard Park this year after 3 years at the bowl.  No issue, apart from the ticket price went up to  £35 when it was previously £18.  We couldn't justify paying it, so decided not to bother this year.  Seems like we weren't alone, as it's now been cancelled due to low ticket sales and some of the acts are playing at the Mecca instead - ticket price £10. Serves the money grabbing organisers right, should have left as it was.

I'm not really a live music person, but with Leftfield going, in my opinion one of the most influential electronic acts ever, and one of my favourite ever artists, I might have to go along and have a listen. Zabiela and Krafty Kuts are simply the icing on the cake. (Brand New Heavies are worth a listen as well. Or were.)

Unfortunately Leftfield have pulled out now it's at the MECA.  The line up is now James Zabiela, Krafty Kuts and The Cuban Brothers.  Still not a bad line up for a tenner.  However, I went to Annie Mac at the MECA a few months ago and it was a shambles.  Ram packed to the point it was dangerous and half hour queues for drinks and the toilet.  It's put me off going there again to be honest.

I hate cramped/crowded spaces, but could have been persuaded with Leftfield going! As they've pulled out I won't be going. No doubt my presence will be sorely missed. :D

Slightly off topic but I have to say I don't really see what the MECCA has brought to Swindon thus far. A few shows with DJs etc but nothing that's got me interested. I was hoping that along with the DJ shows and the boxing events they do there (which are a good idea) we'd see a bit more comedy and some decent live bands. Not big bands but at least bands you may have heard of. I think they are missing out a big market here in Swindon. They could make a killing having some modern half decent live bands and some pretty decent comedians in that place. It hasn't exactly opened Swindon up to the market that some had hoped for given the venue's capacity.

Meca has been absolutley shite, and will be closed within a year. Apparantly less than 100 people went to see Hot Chocolate?

It's a pity, it's a decent sized venue in an accessible location, but it looks to be run by a bunch of incompetent buffoons, who's only reference on what acts to book appears to be the 1980's.

Word...big disappointment

And right there that highlights my point.
