Title: George Wood
Post by: dave_bambers_right_sock on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, 10:17:09
Nabbed this from the OS

Goalkeeping coach George Wood has left The County Ground after two seasons with Swindon Town.

The club has today confirmed that Wood will not be returning to pre-season training following Paolo Di Canio's arrival at the club.

Wood arrived at Swindon in June 2009, after holding a similar role at Hartlepool United, where he had worked with former Town boss Danny Wilson. The former Arsenal and Everton keeper had been with Hartlepool for three seasons.

He enjoyed a playing career which spanned 27 years, during which time he appeared in more than 750 games and was capped four times by Scotland.

Not a surprise, particulalry if Di Canio has watched as many games as stated, he'll have seen some howlers no doubt, and poor levels of concentration from our keepers.

I know what you are saying, but I often wonder how much is the coaches fault. He didn't coach Smith to chuck one at the opposition or flap one from a cross (or Lucas to punch like a girl or take out the opposition). Then again, maybe he did coach to punch when they should catch. etc.

I don't know.

Anyway good luck to him, and welcome new bloke.

We really need a clearout on the terraces as well. The quality of support was excellent the previous year, but underperformed massively last season. It would be much more in keeping with the new spirit if we could bring in plane-loads of enthusiastic Italians who will understand and appreciate the way we play, and who will be able to communicate with the players on the pitch. Would also avoid the tiresome slog of having to translate interviews and the official site into English.

It would never work.  For a start, what's Italian for 'Wubbleyou'?

You're right - google translate tells me the club needs to be renamed "Prato Suina". Has an ambitious continental ring to it.

I think this was always on the cards.

The keepers did not look like they improved under Woods at all.

I heard he was pining for a return to Scotland....looking for a new deal....because the release of Douglas was too much fir him....we just seem to larch from one crisis too another atm.

I think he done well the improvement was there for all to see when he came in, I'm sure he will end up at Sheff Utd with Wilson & Morrison

New GK coach is a bit young at 36, the are usually good ex pro's who have been about abit.
