Title: Di Canio extended interview, BBC Wiltshire
Post by: marielennon on Saturday, June 25, 2011, 09:51:54
Hello all,

Understanding that townend is the gentleman's choice of STFC forum, thought it best to inform you of an extended Paolo Di Canio interview which is being broadcast today.

I present the Saturday afternoon programme on BBC Wiltshire now the season is over, but Shaun Hodgetts has offered me 20 minutes of his interview with Paolo Di Canio to play this afternoon.

It'll be in 3 chunks, from around 3.50pm.

If you want to air any views after hearing, or share your thoughts on what Paolo has been saying, you can text me - 81333 is the number, start your message with WILTSHIRE.

thanks y'all.

Some managers sit back and let the fitness and conditioning coach do the boring stuff and they just talk tactics.

Where have I said anything about us going up as champions?

I am interested to hear what he has to say, as I have no idea how PDC might set up a team. So I am pleased to hear him say 4-4-2 with attacking wingers, beacause he could have talked about a defensive 4-5-1.

Similarly, I don't think I have gone OTT about any of the new signings.

So fuck off Arriba *smile*

I think the reason people are gushing about his words is because it's nice to hear that he has clear ideas and methods in mind. No doubt alot of people were bricking it that he wouldn't have a clue what to do, but at least it sounds like he has a plan.

I've actually listened to it now and has been said, it's good to know that he has very clear ideas of what he wants to do and how he wants to play. When he talked about formations I particularly like the fact that he mentioned 4-4-2, 4-2-4 and full backs getting forward and he did not mention playing one cunting striker which I despise.

i don't necessarily mind 1 cunting striker but at this level players aren't good enough to make it an attacking scenario like the top end of the prem or in europe.

swansea managed it well this season in the championship, but in L1 or L2 the midfielders tend not to know whether they are coming or going and it ends up being negative

I don't remember that much positivity but this was mainly due to the fact that many people had never heard of him :)

I've just listened to the interview and while he ticked all the boxes it just left me wanting the next week to pass by swiftly so they can get pre-season up and running.

For him to achieve some of his goals then he needs to complete a couple of signings before jetting off to Norcia because we really need all of our permanent signings to be on that trip.

A quick google suggests some decent facilities out there... but isn't that always the case!

That and his lack of managerial experience, English game knowledge and lower league knowledge in general. Whereas DiCanio, oh, um, well he's just more believable .

To be fair he did talk the talk, and only time will tell if he can walk too :)

But until we have the squad complete (i.e. enough players to compete with) what he says now is largely irrelevant.

Lets hope that Wray is right, and that we have most (if not all) of the squad complete before they go away to Italy.

Mood at this time, cautiously optimistic

I think it also helps we've all seen alot of Di Canio - had anyone here every seen Malpas play?

We at least know Di Canios style of play - and its all about the passion and commitment - which is what we want to see.

To steal a phrase (from myself) from another thread.

If Di Canio walks the walk even half as good as he talks the talks - we're going up as fucking champions.

It's really easy to get caught up in the optimism surrounding the appointment of Di Canio and as others as mentioned he really knows how to talk a good game.  But, we have all been here before and this is going to be a tough old season considering Di Canio has never managed before and also we have lost a huge number of players over the summer.

I hope that if we aren't firing on all cylinders at the start of the season that the fans don't get on the teams back, can show a little patience and give the team and Di Canio the support they need to mount a serious promotion challenge.

Still on the books. Remains to be seen whether he's retained once out in September.

What's his favourite cheese? Do you know?

He's in prison. You work it out.

I just thought you could give us more of a knowledgeable insight

Not particularly humorous Ox fan posts a fairly bland comment on Scum forum and nets seven - yes SEVEN! - of the enemy.

Honestly guys, you've really got to work on your A420 derby responses, that was pretty embarrassing reading.

X

Yea because "scum" fans don't bite at all do they.....

You seem very keen to try to categorise all Oxford fans together. I think you'll find there are many different personalities amongst our support. Some bite, some don't. I was merely observing how easily your fans on this thread bit, even though the bait was pretty feeble. The fact that some Ox fans also bite makes no difference to that observation.

We didn't all bite Eric. Please don't categorise all Swindon fans together.

Is that in 'ah bless him' sort of special way?

Not really.  I think he sounds vaguely sensible for a man clearly devoid of any sense, reason or logic.

Those that bit, bit. Those that didn't, didn't. I'm boring myself now.

I'm confused as to how asking the bloke what his favourite cheese was constitutes as 'biting'

What?! Clearly the entire objective of the Ox fan was to force an enquiry about his favourite cheese. The enquiry was made QED a bite was taken.

Eric, do you post on yellowsforum.co.uk ?

I have just started again after a self-imposed absence while I got myself accepted, despised then banned from the FF forum.

Not as busy as it used to be, but the modding is excellently tolerant. Several of yours are on there - the usual mix of pointless idiot, and decent poster eventually frightened off by our own pointless idiots.

I would describe my posting style as chaotic - borderline amusing interspersed with relentless obnoxiousness.

I'm certainly part human, but I have no idea what a spambot is. If it's a magic transforming lizard, then yes.

It transforms into a tin of processed meat.

Which part? If I could only be part human I'd like to keep my hands and my arse.  I quite fancy a giraffe neck and the legs of a centipede.  Oh - and the cock of a horse.

Surely you mean "Poxford"? It's just that I get confused if conventions are ignored.
