Brilliant course............tough as fuck but plenty of birdies to be had if you play well.

Loving it,great to see a sport where the players are not snarling and trying to con,and thousands of fans enjoying the occasion without feeling the need to hurl insults or abuse, yep i miss the footy but can live without it for a few days.

Not a bad start at all finishing plus two after round 1..........Donald,Westwood and a good few others would have liked that ;D

McIlroy to come good.

In the lead on his own now and looking good at this early stage. If he can hole a few more of those 8-10 footers he's got every chance.

Played the back nine first, the hardest nine......not one bogey, brilliant.

he has the game to win, does he have the bottle though?

I reckon he won't blow it again next time he's bossing it. Got that out the way now.

He swings it better than any cunt I've ever seen, tee to green he's so so good he can get away with his putting.

C'mon Rors.

Not a massive golf fan tbh but he seems a really likable lad tbh. Hope the last time he bottled it in massive fashion doesn't come back to haunt him.

Generally this is the best major of the lot IMO, the other 3 have generally turned into target golf.  You play well here you get rewarded, you play a bad shot you get punished.  Golf how it should be.

Had a cheeky e/w on Kuchar & Baddeley, both had a sloid start.

David Howell 7 over par, needs a good round today to survive the cut.

damn shame about rory's double bogey on the 18th. Hope that isn't in the forefront of his mind tomorrow.
The lad has the game to dominate the sport if he can get his mind right too

Title: Re: American Open
Post by: leefer on Friday, June 17, 2011, 19:43:23
Yep,though he could have three double bogeys tomorow and still lead.

Can't see Rory blowing it this time. He deserves this win without any doubt

Agree Arriba. If he cannot win this, it'll be the biggest turnaround ever.

Hope he wins though have a feeling it could get close.

I can see Westwood or Yang getting to 10 or 11 under. If he plays steady I don't think they will catch Rory. He has played fantastic golf this week. A real pleasure to watch

True but a four over par is not a bad round on this course.....which may bring him back to the field,i am rooting for a 7 under from Westy to put the pressure on.

Incorrect - I followed him round Wentworth and he was awsome - tee to green, around and on the greens, everywhere.

Agree think Westwood could go low again today and try and put a bit of pressure on.

McIlory couldn't ask better than a birdie on the first though, at the end of the day if he shoots level par or better no one is getting close

I had a couple of quid each way on Kuchar, if it wasn't for that double bogey earlier this round he'd be on 7 under.
Good on Rory though, would take a monumental (ala Masters) fuck up to lose this now.

Still got a chance though for each way.

Unbelievable. You got to wonder what guys like Yang are thinking - he's a major champion, played great golf for four days and is -9 at a US Open. And is still 8 shots back.
