It doesnt say he is set to stay, all it says is wray is hoping he will.

Completely baseless speculation.

It's not baseless because the Club seem to want Dougie to stay and (apparently) the player has tweeted that he could be interested in staying. So both parties are willing which is a great start. It is certainly stretching a point though to say that he is 'set to stay'. It should be more along the lines of 'Douglas could stay with a bit of luck, fingers crossed'. The Adver would probably think that's not quite such a catchy headline though.

I just meant baseless in the sense that how can they say he's 'set to stay' when he's still away and presumably no negotiations have begun? I want Douglas to stay as much as the next guy but feel like headlines like that raise false hopes.

Yes I understand they still have column inches to fill in the summer and articles like this are inevitable to an extent.

It does say that Wray has been talking to Dougie's agent while he's been away though.

The club seem confident enough about Dougie to do a radio interview and say he is probably staying.

Getting Douglas to sign a new contract would be like a new signing. Will be vital to us next season! Delighted!

My guess is that they have let his existing contract lapse with a view to making a substantially improved offer...

No doubt he will, but as has been said time and again he's very settled where he lives, so would have to be local.

Would be very happy if Douglas was to stay, don't know if it was being made captain that affected his performances or just a bad season but I hope Pdc takes that into account when choosing this seasons captain. Jd doesn't seem the type to say if I'm not captain I'm not playing, it's the sort of thing paolo may of said a few years ago himself !

I feel uneasy about the 'Dougie/ Lecs/Tims'  references, all sounds a bit too matey coming from the chairman - McClaren-esque even.

Good news that Dougie is staying , should be awesome in Divvy, especially with some battlers to do all the running and tackling.

Shame if JFL goes but thats Football and we are L2......

maybe the CB PdC is trying to sign will be the captain. i dont know who in our current squad would be good enough to take over as cap from Douglas, none of them seem vocal enough.

I'd go with Caddis too. He is young but perfect for the job.

Seems to care(not that douglas doesn't) constantly geeing up the others around him.

Douglas is more of a leader in the way that he likes to dictate play rather than vocally imo.

The Adver is basically fucked, due to changes in technology and cultural patterns. It's quite conceivable that it will disappear, within the next 2 to 3 years.

Shame...but shit happens, as long as it's demise doesn't force the mongs over here, who cares?

Great news regarding Dougie. Really hope he stays.

Kinda gutted if Lecs leaves, be interested to see who these clubs are that are offerering him a deal.

Douglas staying will be the best signing of the summer for me.
Miles ahead of anything in this division,as for Lecs he needs his head examined if he leaves us.........he will dissapear without trace.
