Title: Car Insurance question
Post by: Bogus Dave on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 10:22:31
Can't find anything on google. Am I right in thinking that if I added my sister to my insurance, and she crashed into someone, it would be me who'd be fucked as it's my name on the policy?

Yes and depending on her age, history etc it may well cost you to put her on your insurance

I'm not worried about cost, she can fork out however much it will be. I just don't want to be shafted when getting insurance in the future because of something I didn't do

Although if you "protected" your "No Claims" wouldn't you be unaffected ?

I think with protected no claims you are allowed 2 or 3 prangs without it affecting your policy, and you wouldn't lose your no claims entitlement ?

As the claim is against your policy, it is your no claims that is affected.

If you have protected your NCD, then the impact of one claim would be minimal.

You say you aren't interested in the cost, but if she is very young your premium will go up by a huge amount.  Had an example recently of a young lad (18) who was added to his parents policy & the premium went from £300 to over 3 grand.

Policy runs out end of june, would only be £40 they said (3rd party fire and theft). I've only been driving a year and a half, so no ncb for me anywho.
